Generative model based resource efficient monitoring is an emerging data collection technique that has been shown to have compression ratio of around 40 in simulation environment on medical grade data from MIT BIH database. This paper discusses the intermediate outcomes of an ongoing clinical study where GeMREM enabled sensors are deployed on 125 subjects at the St Luke's cardiac hospital. According to the data from 25 patients we see that GeMREM achieves a compression ratio of 33, the reduction attributed to motion artifacts. We also compare the diagnostic accuracy of GeMREM with compressive sensing (CS) based ECG monitoring techniques. The results show that GeMREM although has better resource efficiency, CS is more accurate in representing temporal parameters such as heart rate, standard deviation of heart rate, and heart rate variability. However, interestingly, GeMREM is more accurate in preserving the shape of an ECG beat. Usage of dual basis in CS also cannot achieve shape accuracy comparable to GeMREM. Further, the reconstruction algorithm for GeMREM is almost 20 times faster than that for CS techniques. © 2015 ACM.

Since its inception, web application development has undergone constant evolution, and with it the evolution of the web application software developer. Developers are increasingly specialized in the frameworks and toolchains needed to provide highly functional modern web functionality. This creates a challenge for educators as they seek to teach the underlying fundamentals of web development and produce graduates versed in the latest technologies for their industry constituents. At Arizona State University, an upper-division software engineering course in web development seeks to address this dichotomy, specifically for front-end applications on the HTML5/Javascript/CSS stack. This paper reports on a study of student developers and the nature of syntactic defect injection in web application development. © 2020 Proceedings of the Information systems Education Conference, ISECON. In this work we describe the system from Natural Language Processing group at Arizona State University for the TextGraphs 2019 Shared Task. The task focuses on Explanation Regeneration, an intermediate step towards general multi-hop inference on large graphs. Our approach consists of modeling the explanation regeneration task as a learning to rank problem, for which we use state-of-theart language models and explore dataset preparation techniques. We utilize an iterative reranking based approach to further improve the rankings. Our system secured 2nd rank in the task with a mean average precision (MAP) of 41.3% on the test set. © 2019 EMNLP-IJCNLP 2019 - Graph-Based Methods for Natural Language Processing - Proceedings of the 13th Workshop. In Model Based Development (MBD) of embedded systems, it is often desirable to not only verify/falsify certain formal system specifications, but also to automatically explore the properties that the system satisfies. Namely, given a parametric specification, we would like to automatically infer the ranges of parameters for which the property holds/does not hold on the system. In this paper, we consider parametric specifications in Metric Temporal Logic (MTL). Using robust semantics for MTL, the parameter estimation problem can be converted into an optimization problem which can be solved by utilizing stochastic optimization methods. The framework is demonstrated on some examples from the literature. © 2012 IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

Social media services have become a prominent source of research data for both academia and corporate applications. Data from social media services is easy to obtain, highly structured, and comprises opinions from a large number of extremely diverse groups. The microblogging site, Twitter, has garnered a particularly large following from researchers by offering a high volume of data streamed in real time. Unfortunately, the methods in which Twitter selects data to disseminate through the stream are either vague or unpublished. Since Twitter maintains sole control of the sampling process, it leaves us with no knowledge of how the data that we collect for research is selected. Additionally, past research has shown that there are sources of bias present in Twitters dissemination process. Such bias introduces noise into the data that can reduce the accuracy of learning models and lead to bad inferences. In this work, we take an initial look at the efficiency of Twitter limit track as a sample population estimator. After that, we provide methods to mitigate bias by improving sample population coverage using clustering techniques. © 2015 ACM.

Social media is becoming popular as a key source of information on disasters and crisis situations. Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR) respondents can gain valuable insights and situational awareness by monitoring social media-based feeds. Specifically, the use of microblogs (i.e., Twitter) has been shown to provide new information not otherwise attainable. In this paper, we present a new application designed to help HADR relief organizations to track, analyze, and monitor tweets. The purpose of this tool is to help these first responders gain situational awareness immediately after a disaster or crisis. The tool is capable of monitoring and analyzing location and keyword specific Tweets with near-real-time trending, data reduction, historical review, and integrated data mining tools. In this paper, we discuss the utility of this tool through a case study on tweets related to the Cholera crisis in Haiti. From self-supervised, vision-only models to contrastive visual-language frameworks, computational pathology has rapidly evolved in recent years. Generative AI "co-pilots" now demonstrate the ability to mine subtle, sub-visual tissue cues across the cellular-to-pathology spectrum, generate comprehensive reports, and respond to complex user queries. The scale of data has surged dramatically, growing from tens to millions of multi-gigapixel tissue images, while the number of trainable parameters in these models has risen to several billion. The critical question remains: how will this new wave of generative and multi-purpose AI transform clinical diagnostics? In this article, we explore the true potential of these innovations and their integration into clinical practice. We review the rapid progress of foundation models in pathology, clarify their applications and significance. More precisely, we examine the very definition of foundational models, identifying what makes them foundational, general, or multipurpose, and assess their impact on computational pathology. Additionally, we address the unique challenges associated with their development and evaluation. These models have demonstrated exceptional predictive and generative capabilities, but establishing global benchmarks is crucial to enhancing evaluation standards and fostering their widespread clinical adoption. In computational pathology, the broader impact of frontier AI ultimately depends on widespread adoption and societal acceptance. While direct public exposure is not strictly necessary, it remains a powerful tool for dispelling misconceptions, building trust, and securing regulatory support. © 2025, CC BY-NC-SA.

The Extended Ant Colony Optimization (EACO) metaheuristic is applied to the problem of Metric Temporal Logic (MTL) falsification of nonautonomous hybrid systems. The goal of the MTL falsification problem is to detect operating conditions and input signals that will generate system trajectories that do not satisfy a user provided specification in MTL. A new method for parameterizing the input space using splines and Hermitian polynomials is introduced and the performance of the new algorithm is compared against Monte Carlo testing techniques. It is envisioned that this work will help practitioners in designing complex control or mixed-signal systems. © 2010 IEEE.

We conduct an eye tracking study to investigate perception text-embellished narrative visualizations under different task *** stimuli are data visualizations embellished with text-based elements:annotations,captions,labels,and descriptive *** consider three common viewing tasks that occur when these types of graphics are viewed:(1)simple observation,(2)active search to answer a query,and(3)information memorization for later *** overarching goal is to understand,at a perceptual level,if and how task affects how these visualizations are interacted *** analyzing collected gaze data and conducting advanced semantic scanpath analysis,we find,at a high level,diverse patterns of gaze behavior:simple observation and information memorization lead to similar optical viewing strategies,while active search significantly diverges,both in regards to which areas of the visualization are focused upon and how often embellishments are interacted *** discuss study outcomes in the context of embellishing visualizations with text for various usage scenarios.
