Solving partial differential equations (PDEs) is a central task in scientific computing. Recently, neural network approximation of PDEs has received increasing attention due to its flexible meshless discretization and its potential for high-dimensional problems. One fundamental numerical difficulty is that random samples in the training set introduce statistical errors into the discretization of the loss functional which may become the dominant error in the final approximation, and therefore overshadow the modeling capability of the neural network. In this work, we propose a new minmax formulation to optimize simultaneously the approximate solution, given by a neural network model, and the random samples in the training set, provided by a deep generative model. The key idea is to use a deep generative model to adjust the random samples in the training set such that the residual induced by the neural network model can maintain a smooth profile in the training process. Such an idea is achieved by implicitly embedding the Wasserstein distance between the residual-induced distribution and the uniform distribution into the loss, which is then minimized together with the residual. A nearly uniform residual profile means that its variance is small for any normalized weight function such that the Monte Carlo approximation error of the loss functional is reduced significantly for a certain sample size. The adversarial adaptive sampling (AAS) approach proposed in this work is the first attempt to formulate two essential components, minimizing the residual and seeking the optimal training set, into one minmax objective functional for the neural network approximation of PDEs. © 2024 12th International Conference on Learning Representations, ICLR 2024. In 2023, Turkiye faced a series of devastating earthquakes and these earthquakes affected millions of people due to damaged constructions. These earthquakes demonstrated the urgent need for advanced automated damage detection models to help people. This study introduces a novel solution to address this challenge through the AttentionPoolMobileNeXt model, derived from a modified MobileNetV2 architecture. To rigorously evaluate the effectiveness of the model, we meticulously curated a dataset comprising instances of construction damage classified into five distinct classes. Upon applying this dataset to the AttentionPoolMobileNeXt model, we obtained an accuracy of 97%. In this work, we have created a dataset consisting of five distinct damage classes, and achieved 97% test accuracy using our proposed AttentionPoolMobileNeXt model. Additionally, the study extends its impact by introducing the AttentionPoolMobileNeXt-based Deep Feature Engineering (DFE) model, further enhancing the classification performance and interpretability of the system. The presented DFE significantly increased the test classification accuracy from 90.17% to 97%, yielding improvement over the baseline model. AttentionPoolMobileNeXt and its DFE counterpart collectively contribute to advancing the state-of-the-art in automated damage detection, offering valuable insights for disaster response and recovery efforts. © The Author(s) 2024.

ConcatNeXt: An automated blood cell classification with a new deep convolutional neural network

Examining peripheral blood smears is valuable in clinical settings, yet manual identification of blood cells proves time-consuming. To address this, an automated blood cell image classification system is crucial. Our objective is to develop a precise automated model for detecting various blood cell types, leveraging a novel deep learning architecture. We harnessed a publicly available dataset of 17,092 blood cell images categorized into eight classes. Our innovation lies in ConcatNeXt, a new convolutional neural network. In the spirit of Geoffrey Hinton's approach, we adapted ConvNeXt by substituting the Gaussian error linear unit with a rectified linear unit and layer normalization with batch normalization. We introduced depth concatenation blocks to fuse information effectively and incorporated a patchify layer. Integrating ConcatNeXt with nested patch-based deep feature engineering, featuring downstream iterative neighborhood component analysis and support vector machine-based functions, establishes a comprehensive approach. ConcatNeXt achieved notable validation and test accuracies of 97.43% and 97.77%, respectively. The ConcatNeXt-based feature engineering model further elevated accuracy to 98.73%. Gradient-weighted class activation maps were employed to provide interpretability, offering valuable insights into model decision-making. Our proposed ConcatNeXt and nested patch-based deep feature engineering models excel in blood cell image classification, showcasing remarkable classification performances. These innovations mark significant strides in computer vision-based blood cell analysis. © The Author(s) 2024.

The smart grid is widely recognized as a highly efficient solution for mitigating carbon emissions and addressing energy crises. Within this framework, the collection of metering data from users is crucial for improving energy efficiency. However, the frequent collection of real-time metering data presents substantial challenges in terms of data privacy and communication overhead. In this paper, we propose an efficient and secure scheme that enables the system operator to monitor load and compute bills while preserving the users' privacy. During the load monitoring phase, our scheme uses certificateless ring signatures and unique random identifiers to ensure the security of electricity data. Additionally, the proposed scheme uses improved function encryption for electricity data in a ciphertext state to protect users' privacy during dynamic billing. Detailed security analysis demonstrates that our scheme meets the security requirements of the smart grid. Furthermore, we compare our scheme with existing schemes to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme in terms of low computational complexity and communication overhead. © 2024 IEEE.

In this work,we proposed a diffuse-interface model for the dendritic growth with thermosolutal *** this model,the sharp boundary between the fluid and solid dendrite is firstly replaced by a thin but nonzero thickness diffuse interface,which is described by the order parameter,and the diffuse-interface based governing equations for the dendritic growth are *** solve the model for the dendritic growth with thermosolutal convection,we also developed a diffuse-interface multirelaxation-time lattice Boltzmann(LB)*** this method,the order parameter in the phase-field equation is combined into the force caused by the fluid-solid interaction,and the treatment on the complex fluid-solid interface can be *** addition,four LB models are designed for the phase-field equation,concentration equation,temperature equation and the Navier-Stokes equations in a unified ***,we performed some simulations of the dendritic growth to test the present diffuse-interface LB method,and found that the numerical results are in good agreements with some previous works.

A novel data augmentation approach for influenza A subtype prediction based on HA proteins

Influenza, a pervasive viral respiratory illness, remains a significant global health concern. The influenza A virus, capable of causing pandemics, necessitates timely identification of specific subtypes for effective prevention and control, as highlighted by the World Health Organization. The genetic diversity of influenza A virus, especially in the hemagglutinin protein, presents challenges for accurate subtype prediction. This study introduces PreIS as a novel pipeline utilizing advanced protein language models and supervised data augmentation to discern subtle differences in hemagglutinin protein sequences. PreIS demonstrates two key contributions: leveraging pre-trained protein language models for influenza subtype classification and utilizing supervised data augmentation to generate additional training data without extensive annotations. The effectiveness of the pipeline has been rigorously assessed through extensive experiments, demonstrating a superior performance with an impressive accuracy of 94.54% compared to the current state-of-the-art model, the MC-NN model, which achieves an accuracy of 89.6%. PreIS also exhibits proficiency in handling unknown subtypes, emphasizing the importance of early detection. Pioneering the classification of HxNy subtypes solely based on the hemagglutinin protein chain, this research sets a benchmark for future studies. These findings promise more precise and timely influenza subtype prediction, enhancing public health preparedness against influenza outbreaks and pandemics. Dynamic searchable symmetric encryption (DSSE) enables users to delegate the keyword search over dynamically updated encrypted databases to an honest-but-curious server without losing keyword privacy. This paper studies a new and practical security risk to DSSE, namely, secret key compromise (e.g., a user’s secret key is leaked or stolen), which threatens all the security guarantees offered by existing DSSE schemes. To address this open problem, we introduce the notion of searchable encryption with key-update (SEKU) that provides users with the option of non-interactive key updates. We further define the notion of post-compromise secure with respect to leakage functions to study whether DSSE schemes can still provide data security after the client’s secret key is compromised. We demonstrate that post-compromise security is achievable with a proposed protocol called "Bamboo". Interestingly, the leakage functions of Bamboo satisfy the requirements for both forward and backward security. We conduct a performance evaluation of Bamboo using a real-world dataset and compare its runtime efficiency with the existing forward-and-backward secure DSSE schemes.
