In the Internet of things (IoT) era, vehicles and other intelligent components in an intelligent transportation system (ITS) are connected, forming vehicular networks (VNs) that provide efficient and safe traffic and ubiquitous access to various applications. However, as the number of nodes in an ITS increases, it is challenging to satisfy a varied and large number of service requests with different quality of service (QoS) and security requirements in highly dynamic VNs. Intelligent nodes in VNs can compete or cooperate for limited network resources to achieve the objective for either an individual or a group. Game theory (GT), a theoretical framework designed for strategic interactions among rational decision makers sharing scarce resources, can be used to model and analyze individual or group behaviors of communicating entities in VNs. This paper primarily surveys the recent developments of GT in solving various challenges of VNs. This survey starts with an introduction to the background of VNs. A review of GT models studied in the VNs is then introduced, including the basic concepts, classifications, and applicable vehicular issues. After discussing the requirements of VNs and the motivation of using GT, a comprehensive literature review on GT applications in dealing with the challenges of current VNs is provided. Furthermore, recent contributions of GT to VNs that are integrated with diverse emerging 5G technologies are surveyed. Finally, the lessons learned are given, and several key research challenges and possible solutions of applying GT in VNs are outlined. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

We report an experimental demonstration of resonance fluorescence in a two-level superconducting artificial atom under two driving fields coupled to a detuned cavity. One of the fields is classical and the other is varied from quantum (vacuum fluctuations) to classical by controlling the photon number inside the cavity. The device consists of a transmon qubit strongly coupled to a one-dimensional transmission line and a coplanar waveguide resonator. We observe a sideband anticrossing and asymmetry in the emission spectra of the system through a one-dimensional transmission line, which is fundamentally different from the weak-coupling case. By changing the photon number inside the cavity, the emission spectrum of our doubly driven system approaches the case when the atom is driven by two classical bichromatic fields. We also measure the dynamical evolution of the system through the transmission line and study the properties of the first-order correlation function, Rabi oscillations, and energy relaxation in the system. The study of resonance fluorescence from an atom driven by two fields promotes understanding decoherence in superconducting quantum circuits and may find applications in superconducting quantum computing and quantum networks.

Outage Performance of Uplink Rate Splitting Multiple Access with Randomly Deployed Users

With the rapid proliferation of smart devices in wireless networks, more powerful technologies are expected to fulfill the network requirements of high throughput, massive connectivity, and diversify quality of service. To this end, rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) is proposed as a promising solution to improve spectral efficiency and provide better fairness for the next-generation mobile networks. In this paper, the outage performance of uplink RSMA transmission with randomly deployed users is investigated, taking both user scheduling schemes and power allocation strategies into consideration. Specifically, the greedy user scheduling (GUS) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) based user scheduling (CUS) schemes are considered, which could maximize the rate performance and guarantee scheduling fairness, respectively. Meanwhile, we re-investigate cognitive power allocation (CPA) strategy, and propose a new rate fairness-oriented power allocation (FPA) strategy to enhance the scheduled users' rate fairness. By employing order statistics and stochastic geometry, an analytical expression of the outage probability for each scheduling scheme combining power allocation is derived to characterize the performance. To get more insights, the achieved diversity order of each scheme is also derived. Theoretical results demonstrate that both GUS and CUS schemes applying CPA or FPA strategy can achieve full diversity orders, and the application of CPA strategy in RSMA can effectively eliminate the secondary user's diversity order constraint from the primary user. Simulation results corroborate the accuracy of the analytical expressions, and show that the proposed FPA strategy can achieve excellent rate fairness performance in high signal-to-noise ratio region. In this note, we investigate the robustness of Nash equilibria (NE) in multi-player aggregative games with coupling constraints. There are many algorithms for computing an NE of an aggregative game given a known aggregator. When the coupling parameters are affected by uncertainty, robust NE need to be computed. We consider a scenario where players' weight in the aggregator is unknown, making the aggregator kind of "a black box". We pursue a suitable learning approach to estimate the unknown aggregator by proposing an inverse variational inequality-based relationship. We then utilize the counterpart to reconstruct the game and obtain first-order conditions for robust NE in the worst case. Furthermore, we characterize the generalization property of the learning methodology via an upper bound on the violation probability. Object pose estimation is a fundamental computer vision problem with broad applications in augmented reality and robotics. Over the past decade, deep learning models, due to their superior accuracy and robustness, have increasingly supplanted conventional algorithms reliant on engineered point pair features. Nevertheless, several challenges persist in contemporary methods, including their dependency on labeled training data, model compactness, robustness under challenging conditions, and their ability to generalize to novel unseen objects. A recent survey discussing the progress made on different aspects of this area, outstanding challenges, and promising future directions, is missing. To fill this gap, we discuss the recent advances in deep learning-based object pose estimation, covering all three formulations of the problem, i.e., instance-level, category-level, and unseen object pose estimation. Our survey also covers multiple input data modalities, degrees-of-freedom of output poses, object properties, and downstream tasks, providing the readers with a holistic understanding of this field. Additionally, it discusses training paradigms of different domains, inference modes, application areas, evaluation metrics, and benchmark datasets, as well as reports the performance of current state-of-the-art methods on these benchmarks, thereby facilitating the readers in selecting the most suitable method for their application. Finally, the survey identifies key challenges, reviews the prevailing trends along with their pros and cons, and identifies promising directions for future research. Direct current (DC) motors are one of the most important kind of motors and are widely used in robotic and industrial applications. Recently, there have been significant efforts to develop direct current (DC) motors in an attempt to control speed of motors. However, conventional controlling approaches perform undesirably in terms of stability and quick response. Therefore, this paper presents a hybrid intelligent controller configuration for optimized speed control of brushless direct current (BLDC) motors in a factory supervisory control data acquisition (SCADA) system. We compare this hybrid intelligent controller with a conventional PID controller, fuzzy logic controller (FLC), and artificial neural network model reference controller (ANNMRC) in MATLAB , and the results show that the hybrid (neuro-fuzzy) controller performs superior in terms of stability, speed trajectory tracking capability, fast response, and simplicity for implementation.

This study explores the impact of phone usage on train driver performance, a critical aspect influencing the safety of railroad operations. The persistent problem of phone distractions, which severely impair situational awareness and contribute to accidents, necessitates innovative solutions to enhance operational safety. Leveraging advancements in technology, this study introduces a novel approach combining electroencephalogram (EEG)-based analysis with deep learning algorithms to assess the effects of phone usage on the attention states of train drivers. Utilizing a full-type train simulator to replicate real-life scenarios, this study conducts an experimental design involving scenarios with and without phone engagement, aiming to provide a comprehensive assessment of phone usage on performance in critical situations. The deep learning model employed achieved an impressive classification accuracy of approximately 85.6% in distinguishing attention states among 25 participants, with high precision and recall values indicating its efficacy in detecting phone interaction. Moreover, findings reveal that phone usage leads to a 1.4 times increase in response time to situational awareness, significantly affecting driver performance. These findings highlight the significant impact of phone usage on train driver attention and underscore the potential of EEG-based analysis and deep learning in improving railroad safety measures. This study contributes to the growing body of safety literature by focusing on train drivers, offering fresh insights and practical implications for enhancing the safety and efficiency of railroad operations. © 2024, The Authors. SSL(Semi-supervised learning) is widely used in machine learning, which leverages labeled and unlabeled data to improve model performance. SSL aims to optimize class mutual information, but noisy pseudo-labels introduce false class information due to the scarcity of labels. Therefore, these algorithms often need significant training time to refine pseudo-labels for performance improvement iteratively. To tackle this challenge, we propose a novel plug-and-play method named ASCL(Accelerating Semi-Supervised Learning via Contrastive Learning). This method combines contrastive learning with uncertainty-based selection for performance improvement and accelerates the convergence of SSL algorithms. Contrastive learning initially emphasizes the mutual information between samples as a means to decrease dependence on pseudo-labels. Subsequently, it gradually turns to maximizing the mutual information between classes, aligning with the objective of semi-supervised learning. Uncertainty-based selection provides a robust mechanism for acquiring pseudo-labels. The combination of the contrastive learning module and the uncertainty-based selection module forms a virtuous cycle to improve the performance of the proposed model. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ASCL outperforms state-of-the-art methods in terms of both convergence efficiency and performance. In the experimental scenario where only one label is assigned per class in the CIFAR-10 dataset, the application of ASCL to Pseudo-label, UDA (Unsupervised Data Augmentation for Consistency Training), and Fixmatch benefits substantial improvements in classification accuracy. Specifically, the results demonstrate notable improvements in respect of 16.32%, 6.9%, and 24.43% when compared to the original outcomes. Approximation of surface texture profiles

In this paper we are interested in the approximation of continuous surface texture profiles defined only at discretely obtained points. A continuous representation is required in order to be able to apply filtration methods that assume uniform data spacing to practical data that in general is not uniformly spaced. By reconstructing surface profiles as natural cubic spline interpolants accurately using numerically stable fitting algorithms, we can provide a mathematically sound basis on which to compute surface texture profile parameters. As an important direct benefit, parameters involving the integrals of surface profiles can be calculated directly from the spline interpolant. Examples are given to illustrate the advantages of using this reconstruction method.
