A brain-computer interface (BCI) enables a user to communicate with a computer directly using brain signals. The most common non-invasive BCI modality, electroencephalogram (EEG), is sensitive to noise/artifact and suffers between-subject/within-subject non-stationarity. Therefore, it is difficult to build a generic pattern recognition model in an EEG-based BCI system that is optimal for different subjects, during different sessions, for different devices and tasks. Usually, a calibration session is needed to collect some training data for a new subject, which is time-consuming and user unfriendly. Transfer learning (TL), which utilizes data or knowledge from similar or relevant subjects/sessions/devices/tasks to facilitate learning for a new subject/session/device/task, is frequently used to reduce the amount of calibration effort. This paper reviews journal publications on TL approaches in EEG-based BCIs in the last few years, i.e., since 2016. Six paradigms and applications - motor imagery, event-related potentials, steady-state visual evoked potentials, affective BCIs, regression problems, and adversarial attacks - are considered. For each paradigm/application, we group the TL approaches into cross-subject/session, cross-device, and cross-task settings and review them separately. Real-time eyeblink detection in the wild can widely serve for fatigue detection, face anti-spoofing, emotion analysis, etc. The existing research efforts generally focus on single-person cases towards trimmed video. However, multi-person scenario within untrimmed videos is also important for practical applications, which has not been well concerned yet. To address this, we shed light on this research field for the first time with essential contributions on dataset, theory, and practices. In particular, a large-scale dataset termed MPEblink that involves 686 untrimmed videos with 8748 eyeblink events is proposed under multi-person conditions. The samples are captured from uncon-strainedfilms to reveal “in the wild“ characteristics. Meanwhile, a real-time multi-person eyeblink detection method is also proposed. Being different from the existing counter-parts, our proposition runs in a one-stage spatio-temporal way with end-to-end learning capacity. Specifically, it simultaneously addresses the sub-tasks of face detection, face tracking, and human instance-level eyeblink detection. This paradigm holds 2 main advantages: (1) eyeblink features can be facilitated via the face's global context (e.g., head pose and illumination condition) with joint optimization and interaction, and (2) addressing these sub-tasks in parallel instead of sequential manner can save time remarkably to meet the real-time running requirement. Experiments on MPEblink verify the essential challenges of real-time multi-person eyeblink detection in the wild for untrimmed video. Our method also outperforms existing approaches by large margins and with a high inference speed.

In this paper, we developed a path planning system for smart cars for teaching electronic engineering or computer science, which consists of the interactive platform for smart cars development and path planning. Designed by Visual C++, the interactive platform can call Matlab engine, allows users to choose path optimization algorithms such as genetic or A-star(A*) algorithm for different tasks and control smart cars through serial ports. The simulation and practice demonstrate that our interactive platform can help learners to plan paths and control intelligent vehicles without specially designing a user interface.

In the research and application of Agent-Based Models (ABM), parameter calibration is an important content. Based on the existing state transfer equations that link the micro-parameters and macro-states of the multi-agent system, this paper further proposes to introduce Reinforcement Learning when calibrating the parameters. The state transfer of the agent after learning is used to calibrate the micro-parameters of ABM, and the interaction between each agent and multiple other agents is expressed as the parameters of the agent. The application case study of population migration demonstrates that our method can achieve high accuracy and low computational complexity.

—This paper investigates the application of simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) to cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA). A new cooperative multiple-input single-output (MISO) SWIPT NOMA protocol is proposed, where a user with a strong channel condition acts as an energy-harvesting (EH) relay to help a user with a poor channel condition. The power splitting (PS) scheme is adopted at the EH relay. By jointly optimizing the PS ratio and the beamforming vectors, the design objective is to maximize the data rate of the "strong user" while satisfying the QoS requirement of the "weak user". It boils down to a challenging nonconvex problem. To resolve this issue, the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) technique is applied to relax the quadratic terms related with the beamformers, and then it is solved to its global optimality by two-dimensional exhaustive search. We prove the rank-one optimality, i.e., the SDR tightness, which establishes the equivalence between the relaxed problem and the original one. To further reduce the high complexity due to the exhaustive search, an iterative algorithm based on successive convex approximation (SCA) is proposed, which can at least attain its stationary point efficiently. In view of the potential application scenarios, e.g., Internet of Things (IoT), the single-input single-output (SISO) case of the cooperative SWIPT NOMA system is also studied. The formulated problem is proved to be strictly unimodal with respect to the PS ratio. Hence, a golden section search (GSS) based algorithm with closed-form solution at each step is proposed to find the unique global optimal solution. It is worth pointing out that the SCA method can also converge to the optimal solution in SISO cases. In the numerical simulation, the proposed algorithm is numerically shown to converge within a few iterations, and the SWIPT-aided NOMA protocol outperforms the existing transmission protocols. However, conversations related to training in the HFE discipline have largely focused on undergraduate and graduate education. This panel assembles both postdoctoral mentors and former trainees who collectively have a diverse set of HFE-related postdoctoral experiences. By panelists discussing their experiences, observations, and recommendations related to postdoctoral training with the audience, the panel session will support HFE faculty and students in making more informed decisions about if and how a postdoctoral experience (either as a mentor or trainee) could be a part of their career development in HFE.

In this paper we consider a problem in task execution for multi-robot trajectory planning with collision avoidance in a shared working environment. Consider two or more robots generating trajectories towards their respective goal positions. The collision may occur if their trajectory coordinates are intersecting at a point or follow the same path segment simultaneously. The central planner is introduced to control robot motion in the collision state and to reduce the complexity of the multi-robot path planning system. The global path for every robot is generated by the $\mathrm{A}^{*}$ algorithm in a grid-based environment. The path has presented a sequence of optimal grid numbers and later transformed into Cartesian coordinates for smooth trajectory generation. The central planner takes an optimal grid sequence for every robot to analyze the collision state according to its cost value. It regenerates the trajectories to minimize the complexity cost value and replaces the previous trajectory based on minimum cost value. In the collision state, the central planner allows one robot at a time to pass along the conflict path segment and hold others in queue at a safety offset distance until the previous robot passes safely. The algorithm has been applied to robots working in a shared environment in complex maps and the simulations is performed with MATLAB to calculate the efficiency of this approach for handling collision states in a multi-robot path planning system.

This article gives a capsule view of research on rough set theory and applications ongoing at universities and laboratories in China. Included in this capsule view of rough set research is a brief description of the following things: Chinese research groups on rough set with their URLs for web pages, names of principal researchers (supervisors), numbers of graduate students, and topics being investigated. Statistical summaries showing the growth in the research on rough set theory and application in China are included. In addition, an introduction summarizing the research interests of Chinese researchers is included in this article.
