We used the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope(FAST)to search for the molecular emissions in the L-band between 1.0 and 1.5 GHz toward four comets,C/2020 F3(NEOWISE),C/2020 R4(ATLAS),C/2021 A1(Leonard),and 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko during or after their perihelion *** of molecular transition lines fall in this low-frequency range,many attributed to complex organic or prebiotic *** conducted a blind search for the possible molecular lines in this frequency range in those comets and could not identify clear signals of molecular emissions in the *** several molecules have been detected at high frequencies of greater than100 GHz in comets,our results confirm that it is challenging to detect molecular transitions in the L-band frequency *** non-detection of L-band molecular lines in the cometary environment could rule out the possibility of unusually strong lines,which could be caused by the masers or non-LTE *** the line strengths are predicted to be weak,for FAST,using the ultra-wide bandwidth receiver and improving the radio frequency interference environments would enhance the detectability of those molecular transitions at low frequencies in the future.

Sustainable Diffusion-based Incentive Mechanism for Generative AI-driven Digital Twins in Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems

Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems (ICPSs) are an integral component of modern manufacturing and industries. By digitizing data throughout product life cycles, Digital Twins (DTs) in ICPSs enable a shift from current industrial infrastructures to intelligent and adaptive infrastructures. Thanks to data process capability, Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) can drive the construction and update of DTs to improve predictive accuracy and prepare for diverse smart manufacturing. However, mechanisms that leverage Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices to share sensing data for DT construction are susceptible to adverse selection problems. In this paper, we first develop a GenAI-driven DT architecture in ICPSs. To address the adverse selection problem caused by information asymmetry, we propose a contract theory model and develop a sustainable diffusion-based soft actor-critic algorithm to identify the optimal feasible contract. Specifically, we leverage dynamic structured pruning techniques to reduce parameter numbers of actor networks, allowing sustainability and efficient implementation of the proposed algorithm. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme and the algorithm, enabling efficient DT construction and updates to monitor and manage ICPSs. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Depressive disorders to some extent erode the mental and physical health of many individuals. There is a pressing need for new technologies to enhance the diagnosis as well as treatment of depression, which currently relies heavily on subjective reports and lacks precise classification for its subtypes. Anxiety-type depression is a subtype of depression that is clinically challenging to distinguish from non-anxiety-type depression. Statistical data indicates anxiety-type depression has a higher prevalence among university students, poses greater risks, and has more possibility of leading to suicidal tendencies. Research integrating neuroimaging with artificial intelligence for assisted diagnosis and treatment of anxiety-type depression holds significant clinical importance. This study collected fNIRS data from depression patients and evaluated classification performance using a deep learning measure based on the CNN framework, highlighting the extraction of the most significant feature associated with anxiety-type depression deficits. This work provides a valuable lens to understand the complexities of anxiety-type depression and design human-computer interaction treatment methods. Drawing on research in psychology and cognitive science, and recent advancements in cognitive intervention studies, we illustrate the demands of assisted diagnosis, requiring a high degree of intelligent treatment of depression. We propose addressing these demands by designing and integrating a social-assistive chatbot that employs CBT for treating anxiety-type depression into a comprehensive agent system.

High-fidelity kinship face synthesis has many potential applications, such as kinship verification, missing child identification, and social media analysis. However, it is challenging to synthesize high-quality descendant faces with genetic relations due to the lack of large-scale, high-quality annotated kinship data. This paper proposes RFG (Region-level Facial Gene) extraction framework to address this issue. We propose to use IGE (Image-based Gene Encoder), LGE (Latent-based Gene Encoder) and Gene Decoder to learn the RFGs of a given face image, and the relationships between RFGs and the latent space of Style-GAN2. As cycle-like losses are designed to measure the $\mathcal{L}_{2}$ distances between the output of Gene Decoder and image encoder, and that between the output of LGE and IGE, only face images are required to train our framework, i.e. no paired kinship face data is required. Based upon the proposed RFGs, a crossover and mutation module is further designed to inherit the facial parts of parents. A Gene Pool has also been used to introduce the variations into the mutation of RFGs. The diversity of the faces of descendants can thus be significantly increased. Qualitative, quantitative, and subjective experiments on FIW, TSKinFace, and FF-databases clearly show that the quality and diversity of kinship faces generated by our approach are much better than the existing state-of-the-art methods.

One of the forms of cancerous tumors that can be fatal is malignant lymphoma. Histopathological examination of lymphoma tissue images is a diagnostic technique for detecting malignant lymphomas. Differentiating lymphoma subtypes manually is challenging due to their similar morphological features. This paper introduces a cutting-edge methodology for classifying malignant lymphoma using Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E)-stained biopsy images. It integrates feature reduction using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and model optimization through a Genetic Algorithm (GA) in conjunction with DenseNet121 architecture. The DenseNet121 model, which employs four distinct freezing strategies, extracts features from the images, generating an initial 4096 features per image. These features are subsequently reduced by more than 54.4% using PSO, thereby enhancing the computational efficiency without sacrificing classification accuracy. The trained GA Deep Neural Network (DNN) model achieved a significant score of 96.77% testing accuracy with high precision, recall and F1 scores as well. The results after comparison with other existing state-of-the-art models showed the usefulness of the proposed approach in terms of performance as well as the consumption of resources for medical imaging classification. It is recommended that the combined application of PSO for feature reduction and GA for model optimization can be successfully used for improving accuracy rate of such algorithms while reducing computation time. This technique is expected to be further developed and applied in different tasks of computer aided diagnosis of malignant lymphoma in particular the tasks with requirements for explainable artificial intelligence. © 2013 IEEE.

Spectral efficiency is a crucial factor in the survivability of multi-class traffic in elastic optical networks (EONs). In this paper, we propose a spectrum-efficient hybrid protection scheme, namely dedicated path protection (DPP) and shared backup path protection (SBPP), to address the survivability issue in EONs. Meanwhile, we design a survivable routing, modulation level, and spectrum assignment (RMLSA) algorithm to achieve hybrid protection in EONs. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has a lower blocking rate and Spectrum occupation ratio.

Partial Label Learning (PLL) involves associating each instance with a candidate label set, which includes the true label along with false positive labels. Traditional PLL approaches typically assume that these false positive labels follow either a uniform or a non-uniform structure, based on the true label of an instance. However, these assumptions do not fully encompass all aspects of real-world scenarios, especially in cases of finegrained objects with subtle differences in appearance. Therefore, we introduce a fine-grained PLL task specifically designed to handle candidate sets that comprise the true label, partially nonuniform fine-grained labels manifesting in a hierarchical structure, and other false positive labels. Nevertheless, the incorporation of these partially non-uniform, fine-grained labels can result in an intractable posterior, leading to an inconsistent classifier. To address this issue, we propose a Specific Classes-Hierarchical (SCH) regularisation that ensures classifier consistency. Subsequently, the Global Label-Hierarchical-wise Embedding (GLHE) regularisation is introduced, using the refined pseudo labels of positive samples from the obtained consistent classifier. This allows the model to learn more distinctive representations from finegrained instances. Our extensive experiments on datasets such as CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, and CUB-200 have demonstrated the effectiveness of our approach.

The number of vulnerabilities reported in open source software has increased substantially in recent years. Security patches provide the necessary measures to protect software from attacks and vulnerabilities. In practice, it is difficult to identify whether patches have been integrated into software, especially if we only have binary files. Therefore, the ability to test whether a patch is applied to the target binary, a.k.a. patch presence test, is crucial for practitioners. However, it is challenging to obtain accurate semantic information from patches, which could lead to incorrect results. In this paper, we propose a new patch presence test framework named Ppt4j (Patch Presence Test forJava Binaries). Ppt4j is designed for open-source Java libraries. It takes Java binaries (i.e. bytecode files) as input, extracts semantic information from patches, and uses feature-based techniques to identify patch lines in the binaries. To evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed approach Ppt4j, we construct a dataset with binaries that include 110 vulnerabilities. The results show that Ppt4j achieves an F1 score of 98.5% with reasonable efficiency, improving the baseline by 14.2%. Furthermore, we conduct an in-the-wild evaluation of Ppt4j on JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA. The results suggest that a third-party library included in the software is not patched for two CVEs, and we have reported this potential security problem to the vendor.

Matrix-matrix multiplication is one of the most important kernel in linear algebra operations with a multitude of applications in scientific and engineering computing. Sparse matrix computation on modern High-performance computing (HPC) architecture presents challenges such as load balancing, data locality optimization, and computational scalability. data structures to store sparse matrices are designed to minimize overhead information as well as to optimize the operations count and memory access. In this study, we present a new data structure, “compressed sparse diagonal” (CSD), to efficiently store and compute with general sparse matrices. The CSD builds upon the previously developed diagonal storage - an orientation-independent uniform scheme to compute with “structured” matrices [1]. Compared with the widely used compressed sparse row/column (CSR/CSC), the CSD scheme avoids explicit transposition operation when multiplying a matrix with its transpose. The results from preliminary numerical experiments with the aforementioned types of matrices demonstrate the CSD scheme's effectiveness in matrix-transposed matrix multiplication.

This paper investigates an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted semantic communication network. The energy-limited ground users (GUs) provide semantic services to periodically generated raw data and a UAV relays the extracted semantic information to a base station (BS). Semantic extraction enhances data responsiveness and reduces the age-of-information (AoI) by transmitting only the most essential information. However, more complex semantic extraction increases energy consumption, making it easier for the GUs to deplete their energy. Therefore, we introduce a novel energy-efficient AoI (EAoI) metric to capture both information freshness and energy consumption of the GUs. We formulate a time-averaged EAoI minimization problem by jointly optimizing the GUs' scheduling, pre-extraction strategy, semantic control, computing resource allocation, and the UAV's trajectory. We further propose a semantic-aware joint pre-extraction and trajectory planning (Sem-JPT) algorithm to decompose the complex optimization problem into three subproblems, which are solved by a series of approximation methods. Simulation results demonstrate that semantic communication can reduce the overall EAoI by more than 18% compared with conventional bit-based communication. Moreover, the proposed Sem-JPT algorithm can maintain information freshness and prolong the GUs' lifetimes, outperforming existing baselines.
