In the image restoration task, how to make full use of spatial and channel feature information to improve the reconstruction quality of the model without significantly increasing the computational complexity is an important research issue. To address this challenge, this paper proposes a CS module (Channel Compression and Split-Attention) specifically for optimizing image denoising tasks. The module first compresses the features through a preliminary convolution operation, then introduces the split attention convolution mechanism to split the features by channel and dynamically weight them, thereby enhancing the model's adaptive attention to different feature channels and improving feature expression capabilities. Through experiments on multiple image denoising datasets, the results show that the CS module significantly improves the image reconstruction quality, especially in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). At the same time, the introduction of the CS module does not lead to a significant increase in computational complexity, maintaining a high computational efficiency, which verifies the practicality and superiority of the module in image denoising tasks. © 2024 IEEE.

Road damage detection (RDD) through computer vision and deep learning techniques can ensure the safety of vehicles and humans on the roads. Integrating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in RDD and infrastructure evaluation (IE) has also emerged as a key enabler, contributing significantly to data acquisition and real-time monitoring of road damages, such as potholes, cracks, and surface anomalies, facilitating proactive maintenance and improved road conditions. These UAVs are low-powered and resource-constrained devices that work autonomously to perform pattern detection and decision making leveraging tiny machine learning (Tiny ML) algorithms. These Tiny ML algorithms are designed to run on edge devices, IoT devices, UAVs, etc. In this study, the RDD2022 data set collected using UAVs and dashboard cameras of vehicles was utilized to train pure and mixed models that exhibit class instance imbalance in certain classes which is addressed by implementing data augmentation as a regularization technique. State-of-the-art two-stage detectors: Faster R-CNN ResNet101 and one-stage detectors: SSD MobileNet V1 FPN, YOLOv5, and Efficientdet D1 are employed. The results indicate that the two-stage detector achieved an impressive mean average precision (mAP) of 88.49% overall and 96.62% for focused classes. Notably, the state-of-the-art Efficientdet D1 approach achieved a competitive mAP of 86.47% overall and 95.12% for focused classes, with significantly lower computational cost. These findings highlight the potential of advanced object detection techniques, particularly Efficientdet D1, to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of RDD systems, thereby improving passenger safety and overall performance. © 2014 IEEE.

HIV is a serious disease that impairs immunity. Without treatment, the infection may progress through three stages, which might drastically shorten a person's life. Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are utilized to detect the HIV infection and even to find treatments for it. The AIDS viral infection is predicted in this review. The aim of ANN is to precisely classify patients according to whether or not they have HIV/AIDS. We have formed a custom ANN model and applied it to the Kaggle dataset that is accessible to the public, compared which optimizers offer the best accuracy and whether employing dropouts yields improved accuracy. With Gradient Descent, we achieved the maximum accuracy of 86.92% it is also one of the most commonly used optimizers due to its simplicity and effectiveness, followed by SGD with 86.45% it is a variation of gradient descent in which a random subset of data as opposed to the complete dataset is used to update the parameter and RMSprop with 86.21% uses the average of recent gradient magnitudes to modify the learning rate for each parameter. This aids with training stabilization, particularly when dealing with sparse or noisy data. The accuracy increased to 87.62% after we introduced dropouts to the hidden layer with optimizer as gradient descent, which produced the best results. Loss vs. Accuracy graphs and ROC curve have been plotted. With dropouts, the custom ANN model performed even better on the Gradient Descent optimizer. © 2025 IEEE.

Accurately analyzing and predicting driver lane-changing intentions is of paramount importance, as it significantly enhances the safety of self-driving vehicles in their decision-making processes, holding great promise for the future of intelligent transportation systems. This study extracts fundamental lane-changing characteristic parameters from the Next Generation Simulation (NGSIM) trajectory data set and employs Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to construct a model that elucidates the factors influencing drivers’ lane-changing intentions. Furthermore, it provides insight into how lane-changing intentions are influenced by lane-changing behavior and explores the intricate connection between intention and associated risks. The results emphasize the substantial negative impact of the longitudinal speed difference between the self-vehicle and the preceding vehicle on lane-changing intentions. Additionally, the consideration of lane-changing risk plays a pivotal role in drivers’ decisions to engage in lane-changing behavior. These findings have significant implications for a deeper comprehension of lane-changing intentions, guiding lane-changing decisions, and enhancing overall traffic safety. © ASCE.

A robust deep structured prediction model for petroleum reservoir characterization using pressure transient test data

A robust deep learning model consisting of long short-term memory and fully connected neural net-works has been proposed to automatically interpret homogeneous petroleum reservoirs having infinite,no flow,and constant pressure outer boundary *** pressure change data recorded during the well test operation along with its derivative is input into the model to perform the classification for identifying the reservoir model and,further,regression to estimate output *** noise was added to analytical models while generating the synthetic training *** hyperparameters were regulated to perform model optimization,resulting in a batch size of 64,Adam optimization algorithm,learning rate of 0.01,and 80:10:10 data split ratio as the best choices of *** perfor-mance accuracy also increased with an increase in the number of samples during *** classification and regression metrics have been used to evaluate the performance of the *** paper also demonstrates the prediction performance of the optimized model using simulated and actual oil well pressure drawdown test *** proposed model achieved minimum and maximum relative errors of 0.0019 and 0.0308,respectively,in estimating output for the simulated test cases and relative error of 0.0319 for the real test case.

This work proposes a new approach to convert the data from sign language to spoken language without exposing the data to a gloss layer. Whenever gloss annotations are used which frequently are incomplete and act as an intermediate representation, it is usually found to be a bottleneck in translating sign language videos. In order to avoid this, the authors use a combination of modern machine learning algorithms to arrive at the conclusion. They use Dino-V2 Vision Transformer to implement the function of extracting the spatial features of the input sign language video frames. This model is particularly suitable for learning and visual patterns in general and particularly for capturing fine details of these patterns. Further, a spatio-temporal transformer layer is added to automate the temporal processing of the Sign-Language which helps in the arrangement of the body gestures and limb movements needed at a specific temporal frame. It is then translated into the desired spoken language using a multilingual Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) model. The approach can be said to be a big leap forward in sign language transliteration especially for such situations where few Gloss annotations are available, and making way for better and improved tools for the Deaf and the hard-of-hearing. © 2024 IEEE.

Temporal knowledge graph (TKG) extrapolation aims to predict future unknown events (facts) based on historical information, and has attracted considerable attention due to its great practical significance. Accurate representations (embeddings) of entities and relations form the basis of TKG extrapolation. Recent work has been devoted to improving the rationality of entity representations. However, on the one hand, ignoring relation modeling results in incomplete relation representations;therefore, some approaches aggregate only immediately adjacent entities of relations, but this can lead to the "message islands"problem of relation modeling. On the other hand, ignoring the association constraints between relations and entities can make the embeddings of both relations and entities prone to overfitting. To address the abovementioned challenges, we propose an advanced method, namely, RETIA. For the former issue, we generate twin hyperrelation subgraphs for each historical subgraph and then aggregate both the adjacent entities and relations in the hyperrelation subgraphs through a graph convolutional network (GCN). About the latter concern, we propose a twin-interact module (TIM), which provides communication channels for relation aggregation and entity aggregation during the evolution of the historical sequence. Experiments conducted on five public datasets show that RETIA has made great improvements across several evaluation metrics. Pancreatic cancer poses a significant challenge in early detection and treatment due to its malignant nature within the digestive tract. Recent studies, such as those conducted by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, predict that pancreatic cancer will rank as the world's second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in 2020. Various methods have been explored in the literature to segment pancreatic tumors and detect lesions from CT images, crucial for assessing severity. One such method is the Min-Max segmentation algorithm, which effectively removes the jaundiced sclera region from affected eyes by analysing color gradients, offering more feasible and discriminative solutions. Additionally, the utilization of Whale Optimized feature-based selection aids in extracting optimal features for optimization purposes. Through an analysis of different classification algorithms and the implementation of a suggested technique for achieving optimum solutions and maximum accuracy, the proposed work is structured into two phases. Phase I involves pre-processing and artifact removal, followed by segmentation, while Phase II focuses on feature extraction, feature selection, and classification. The initial step of pre-processing the image facilitates pixel location using intensity measures, crucial for accurate tumor segmentation and minimizing false detection. Ultimately, the proposed approach aims to design and develop an optimal feature selection strategy for classifying pancreatic cancer tumors in PET/CT images, resulting in increased classification efficiency 92% and improved cancer tumor detection rates with compare other existing approaches. © 2024 IEEE.
