Recognizing emotions in dialogues is vital for effective human-computer interaction, yet remains a challenging task in Natural Language Processing (NLP). Previous studies in Emotion Recognition in Conversation (ERC) have primarily focused on contextual features, while overlooking the importance of emotional features in emotion recognition. To address this gap, we focus on the role of emotional features in ERC and propose a novel method, Emotional Knowledge Self-Distillation (EmoKSD1), to enhance the model's emotional sensitivity. In EmoKSD, utterances are enriched with implicit 〈mask〉 tokens to represent conveyed emotions, allowing the distillation of emotional knowledge from explicit emotional tokens to implicit 〈mask〉 tokens, thereby enhancing the model's ability to perceive subtle emotions within the dialogue. Through thorough evaluations on two public ERC datasets (i.e., IEMOCAP and MELD) using proposed coarse-grained utterance distillation and fine-grained token distillation techniques, EmoKSD demonstrates superior performance compared to existing methods, highlighting the significance of emotional features in ERC. © 2025 IEEE.

Diffusion-Weighted Imaging (DWI) is a significant technique for studying white matter. However, it suffers from low-resolution obstacles in clinical settings. Post-acquisition Super-Resolution (SR) can enhance the resolution of DWIs and has gained increasing research interest in recent years. An advanced generative model, the Diffusion Model (DM), exhibits particularly promising performance in image SR. However, effective conditions are required to bootstrap the DM for DWI SR. To this end, we proposed the first DM-based DWI SR model with two effective conditions based on low-solution DWIs and Track Density Imaging (TDI) maps, which possess rich high-resolution prior knowledge Additionally, we consider another condition based on features from low-resolution DWIs. These two conditions are integrated into our model, which comprises three components: DWI Resolution Enhancer (DRE), DWI Feature Extractor (DFE), and TDI Feature Extractor (TFE). DRE combines low-resolution DWI features from DFE with TDI features from TFE to progressively generate high-resolution DWIs. We performed extensive experiments on DWIs of normal subjects from human connectome projects and patients with Parkinson’s disease. The results demonstrate that our model outperforms existing DWI SR models, both qualitatively and quantitatively. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

This study introduces a system designed to identify pests in crops and classify them as either beneficial or harmful. The project begins by providing a comprehensive overview of various pest identification methods, analyzing their strengths and limitations. To address the problem, a categorization approach is proposed that incorporates convolutional neural networks (CNN) to build the pest identification and classification model. The model was trained using a dataset containing images of different pest species. Extensive testing was conducted on a large dataset, and the system's performance was validated against multiple traditional classification models. The proposed framework achieved a classification accuracy of 90%, outperforming conventional methods. This research highlights agriculture's vital role in the economy and underscores the potential of advanced technologies in supporting sustainable farming practices. © 2025 IEEE.

Integrating deep learning methods into metaheuristic algorithms has gained attention for addressing design-related issues and enhancing performance. The primary objective is to improve solution quality and convergence speed within solution search spaces. This study investigates the use of deep learning methods as a generative model to learn historical content, including global best and worst solutions, solution sequences, function evaluation patterns, solution space characteristics, population modification trajectories, and movement between local and global search processes. An LSTM-based architecture is trained on dynamic optimization data collected during the metaheuristic optimization process. The trained model generates an initial solution space and is integrated into the optimization algorithms to intelligently monitor the search process during exploration and exploitation phases. The proposed deep learning-based methods are evaluated on 55 benchmark functions of varying complexities, including CEC 2017 and compared with 13 biology-based, evolution-based, and swarm-based metaheuristic algorithms. Experimental results demonstrate that all the deep learning-based optimization algorithms achieve high-quality solutions, faster convergence rates, and significant performance improvements. These findings highlight the critical role of deep learning in addressing design issues, enhancing solution quality, trajectory, and performance speed in metaheuristic algorithms. © The Author(s) 2025.

The number of vulnerabilities reported in open source software has increased substantially in recent years. Security patches provide the necessary measures to protect software from attacks and vulnerabilities. In practice, it is difficult to identify whether patches have been integrated into software, especially if we only have binary files. Therefore, the ability to test whether a patch is applied to the target binary, a.k.a. patch presence test, is crucial for practitioners. However, it is challenging to obtain accurate semantic information from patches, which could lead to incorrect results. In this paper, we propose a new patch presence test framework named Ppt4j (Patch Presence Test forJava Binaries). Ppt4j is designed for open-source Java libraries. It takes Java binaries (i.e. bytecode files) as input, extracts semantic information from patches, and uses feature-based techniques to identify patch lines in the binaries. To evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed approach Ppt4j, we construct a dataset with binaries that include 110 vulnerabilities. The results show that Ppt4j achieves an F1 score of 98.5% with reasonable efficiency, improving the baseline by 14.2%. Furthermore, we conduct an in-the-wild evaluation of Ppt4j on JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA. The results suggest that a third-party library included in the software is not patched for two CVEs, and we have reported this potential security problem to the vendor. © 2024 ACM.

One of the most important and complex issues in the IoT context is energy usage. Because the many nodes utilized in IoT contexts are energy-constrained and must operate for long periods of time without human interaction, their batteries quickly run out of power. As a result, nodes must manage their energy effectively. Sensing, communicating, and processing are regarded as the primary functions of IoT sensors. IoT connectivity uses more energy at the node level than at other times. The main motto of this study is to reduce energy consumption and lengthen network life. Although routing also has a major impact on energy usage, the first one deals with employing an energy model, and the second one deals with selecting an effective routing protocol. When picking a protocol, various other performance indicators such as throughput, delay, packet delivery ratio, and packet loss are also considered. Active disturbance-rejection methods are effective in estimating and rejecting disturbances in both transient and steady-state *** paper presents a deep observation on and a comparison between two of those methods:the generalized extended-state observer(GESO)and the equivalent input disturbance(EID)from assumptions,system configurations,stability conditions,system design,disturbance-rejection performance,and extensibility.A time-domain index is introduced to assess the disturbance-rejection performance.A detailed observation of disturbance-suppression mechanisms reveals the superiority of the EID approach over the GESO method.A comparison between these two methods shows that assumptions on disturbances are more practical and the adjustment of disturbance-rejection performance is easier for the EID approach than for the GESO method.

Although chest X-ray (CXR) imaging is critical for the detection of potentially lethal disorders, interpretation may arise because to similarities between distinct lung conditions. In response, researchers proposed CBAMWDnet, a new deep learning model for tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis based on computed tomography (CXR) images. To successfully collect geographical and contextual data, the model includes the Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) into its architecture, which is based on the Wide Dense Net (WDnet). Pre-processing using an enhanced Gabor filter improves image quality prior to applying the model. We test the model using three well-known datasets: Shenzhen, Montgomery, and Indiana. The results indicate that the Shenzhen dataset performs the best. CBAMWDnet beats previous techniques by better classifying tuberculosis (TB) into normal, primary, latent, and active stages. This complex classification engine improves both accuracy and dependability. © 2024 IEEE.

Toward High-Performance Delta-Based Iterative Processing with a Group-Based Approach

Many systems have been built to employ the delta-based iterative execution model to support iterative algorithms on distributed platforms by exploiting the sparse computational dependencies between data items of these iterative algorithms in a synchronous or asynchronous approach. However, for large-scale iterative algorithms, existing synchronous solutions suffer from slow convergence speed and load imbalance, because of the strict barrier between iterations;while existing asynchronous approaches induce excessive redundant communication and computation cost as a result of being barrier-free. In view of the performance trade-off between these two approaches, this paper designs an efficient execution manager, called Aiter-R, which can be integrated into existing delta-based iterative processing systems to efficiently support the execution of delta-based iterative algorithms, by using our proposed group-based iterative execution approach. It can efficiently and correctly explore the middle ground of the two extremes. A heuristic scheduling algorithm is further proposed to allow an iterative algorithm to adaptively choose its trade-off point so as to achieve the maximum efficiency. Experimental results show that Aiter-R strikes a good balance between the synchronous and asynchronous policies and outperforms state-of-the-art solutions. It reduces the execution time by up to 54.1% and 84.6% in comparison with existing asynchronous and the synchronous models, respectively.

The proper implementation of data science and big data analytics has become an essential component for gaining valuable insight and driving innovation across a variety of industries in this era, which is characterized by the constant presence of data. The strategies and protocols that are necessary to fully exploit the promise of these transformational technologies are investigated in depth by this research. A complete framework for enterprises to harness their data assets is the goal of the study, which will be accomplished by analyzing the fundamental principles of data science as well as the difficulties connected with big data. A number of advanced analytics methods, including machine learning, predictive modeling, and natural language processing, are being investigated as potential integrations into the decision-making process as part of this research. The relevance of data governance, quality, and the ethical considerations that surround data usage are also discussed in this document. It is demonstrated in this study that data-driven insights may lead to strategic advantages, operational efficiencies, and the development of creative goods and services. This is accomplished through a number of case studies and practical examples. In order for businesses to make the most of the potential that are given by data science and big data analytics, it is vital for them to have a culture of data literacy as well as a robust infrastructure, according to the results made. At the end of the study, a collection of best practices and recommendations for businesses and governments to implement in order to cultivate a data-driven environment that encourages innovation and usage of data in a responsible manner are presented. In light of the findings of this study, it is clear that data science and big data analytics require a more comprehensive approach, one that strikes a balance between technological capabilities, organizational readiness, and the influence on society. © 2024
