In an edge-assisted federated learning (FL) system, edge servers aggregate the local models from the clients within their coverage areas to produce intermediate models for the production of the global model. This significantly reduces the communication overhead incurred during the FL process. To accelerate model convergence, FedEdge, the state-of-the-art edge-assisted FL system, trains clients’ models in local federations when they wait for the global model in each training round. However, our investigation reveals that it drives the global model towards clients with excessive local training, causing model drifts that undermine model performance for other clients. To tackle this problem, this paper presents Maverick, a new edge-assisted FL system that mitigates model drifts by training personalized local models for clients through contrastive local training. It introduces a model-contrastive loss to facilitate personalized local federated training by driving clients’ local models away from the global model and close to their corresponding intermediate models. In addition, Maverick includes anomalous models in contrastive local training as negative samples to accelerate the convergence of clients’ local models. Extensive experiments are conducted on three widely-used models trained on three datasets to comprehensively evaluate the performance of Maverick. Compared to state-of-the-art edge-assisted FL systems, Maverick accelerates model convergence by up to 16.2x and improves model accuracy by up to 12.7%. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Day by day, the role of data science and machine learning in cricket is increasing due to the large amount of data generated from a single player on a whole line. The field of data science is the intensive study of data to extract insights and knowledge from the data and apply the acquired knowledge and actionable insights. These available data and statistics are used to predict things like the team's first-innings score and the probability of winning the second team, etc. This study works on Indian Premier League (IPL) data Analysis 2022 and data Visualization for the duration (2008-2020) using Python. This application modules are followed by preprocessing, data analysis, and visualization, and finally create a model that predicts the team's overall score and the probability of winning. When building models, python algorithms such as Numpy is used for S cientific computing, Pandas used to perform data Analysis, and finally Matplotlib and S eaborn to enable data Visualization. Finally, this paper helps the trainers and owners of the team during the auction to select an emerging player to win the matches in the entire season and to win the trophy and to get profit to the owners by the profit strategy done in this analysis report. © 2023 IEEE.

FLARE: A New Federated Learning Framework with Adjustable Learning Rates over Resource-Constrained Wireless Networks

Wireless federated learning (WFL) suffers from heterogeneity prevailing in the data distributions, computing powers, and channel conditions of participating devices. This paper presents a new Federated Learning with Adjusted leaRning ratE (FLARE) framework to mitigate the impact of the heterogeneity. The key idea is to allow the participating devices to adjust their individual learning rates and local training iterations, adapting to their instantaneous computing powers. The convergence upper bound of FLARE is established rigorously under a general setting with non-convex models in the presence of non-i.i.d. datasets and imbalanced computing powers. By minimizing the upper bound, we further optimize the scheduling of FLARE to exploit the channel heterogeneity. A nested problem structure is revealed to facilitate iteratively allocating the bandwidth with binary search and selecting devices with a new greedy method. A linear problem structure is also identified and a low-complexity linear programming scheduling policy is designed when training models have large Lipschitz constants. Experiments demonstrate that FLARE consistently outperforms the baselines in test accuracy, and converges much faster with the proposed scheduling policy. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Machine learning (ML) and its applications have expanded over the past few years. ML inevitably makes its way to the world of prosthetics and amputees. Smart prosthetics have been studied and growing recently. Through the collection of data from these devices, results can help the user in numerous ways. On the other hand, mobile devices and applications are widely used. However, how to combine mobile applications and ML to enhance the prosthetic device was less addressed. In this research, we studied ML with an IoT-based prosthetic device paired with a mobile application. The hypothesis was that the ML methods could help evaluate the user’s status. The study results showed that some evaluated ML methods were able to see through the average temperature, humidity and contraction percentage of the people who wear a designed prosthetic device. The results also indicated that the users could tell if the contractions reached a concerning level. © 2024 IEEE.

Many fruit recognition works have applied statistical approaches to make an exact correlation between low-level visual feature information and high-level semantic concepts givenby predefined text caption or keywords. Two common fruit recognition models include bagof-features (BoF) and convolutional neural network (ConvNet), which achieve highperformance results. In most cases, the overfitting problem is unavoidable. This problemmakes it difficult to generalize new instances with only a slightly different appearance,although belonging to the same category. This article proposes a new fruit recognitionmodel by associating an object’s low-level features in an image with a high-level *** define a perceptual color for each fruit species to construct a relationship between fruitcolor and semantic color name. Furthermore, we develop our model by integrating the perceptual color and semantic template concept to solve the overfitting problem. The semantic template concept as a mapping between the high-level concept and the low-level visualfeature is adopted in this model. The experiment was conducted on three different fruitimage datasets, with one dataset as train data and the two others as test data. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model, called perceptual color on semantictemplate (PCoST), is significantly better than the BoF and ConvNet models in reducing theoverfitting problem.

Mobile prices play a pivotal role in determining their popularity amongst consumers and their competitive standing within the market. As customers consider their budget while evaluating a mobile phone's specifications and design, estimating the price beforehand becomes essential to cater to their needs and expectations. Hence, accurately forecasting mobile phone prices is a vital step in the product launch process to remain competitive and assess the market dynamics and competitors. The primary aim of this research is to determine the true market value of mobile phones. In this research, the dataset was extracted by means of utilizing a web scraping process from the flipkart website. The main objective of this research is to fetch the most recent dataset based on the most recent features. The extracted dataset is fitted into regression models such as linear regression, decision tree regressor, random forest regressor, KNN regressor, and gradient boosting regressor and performs the comparative analysis. The models are evaluated based on the mean absolute error metric. © 2024 IEEE.

Dynamic searchable symmetric encryption (DSSE) enables users to delegate the keyword search over dynamically updated encrypted databases to an honest-but-curious server without losing keyword privacy. This paper studies a new and practical security risk to DSSE, namely, secret key compromise (e.g., a user’s secret key is leaked or stolen), which threatens all the security guarantees offered by existing DSSE schemes. To address this open problem, we introduce the notion of searchable encryption with key-update (SEKU) that provides users with the option of non-interactive key updates. We further define the notion of post-compromise secure with respect to leakage functions to study whether DSSE schemes can still provide data security after the client’s secret key is compromised. We demonstrate that post-compromise security is achievable with a proposed protocol called "Bamboo". Interestingly, the leakage functions of Bamboo satisfy the requirements for both forward and backward security. We conduct a performance evaluation of Bamboo using a real-world dataset and compare its runtime efficiency with the existing forward-and-backward secure DSSE schemes. Individual Content and Motion Dynamics Preserved Pruning for Video Diffusion Models

The high computational cost and slow inference time are major obstacles to deploying the video diffusion model (VDM) in practical applications. To overcome this, we introduce a new Video Diffusion Model Compression approach using individual content and motion dynamics preserved pruning and consistency loss. First, we empirically observe that deeper VDM layers are crucial for maintaining the quality of motion dynamics e.g., coherence of the entire video, while shallower layers are more focused on individual content e.g., individual frames. Therefore, we prune redundant blocks from the shallower layers while preserving more of the deeper layers, resulting in a lightweight VDM variant called VDMini. Additionally, we propose an Individual Content and Motion Dynamics (ICMD) Consistency Loss to gain comparable generation performance as larger VDM, i.e., the teacher to VDMini i.e., the student. Particularly, we first use the Individual Content Distillation (ICD) Loss to ensure consistency in the features of each generated frame between the teacher and student models. Next, we introduce a Multi-frame Content Adversarial (MCA) Loss to enhance the motion dynamics across the generated video as a whole. This method significantly accelerates inference time while maintaining high-quality video generation. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our VDMini on two important video generation tasks, Text-to-Video (T2V) and Image-to-Video (I2V), where we respectively achieve an average 2.5 × and 1.4 × speed up for the I2V method SF-V and the T2V method T2V-Turbo-v2, while maintaining the quality of the generated videos on two benchmarks, i.e., UCF101 and VBench. © 2024, CC BY.

Modeling Pedestrian Intrinsic Uncertainty for Multimodal Stochastic Trajectory Prediction via Energy Plan Denoising

Pedestrian trajectory prediction plays a pivotal role in the realms of autonomous driving and smart cities. Despite extensive prior research employing sequence and generative models, the unpredictable nature of pedestrians, influenced by their social interactions and individual preferences, presents challenges marked by uncertainty and multimodality. In response, we propose the Energy Plan Denoising (EPD) model for stochastic trajectory prediction. EPD initially provides a coarse estimation of the distribution of future trajectories, termed the Plan, utilizing the Langevin Energy Model. Subsequently, it refines this estimation through denoising via the Probabilistic Diffusion Model. By initiating denoising with the Plan, EPD effectively reduces the need for iterative steps, thereby enhancing efficiency. Furthermore, EPD differs from conventional approaches by modeling the distribution of trajectories instead of individual trajectories. This allows for the explicit modeling of pedestrian intrinsic uncertainties and eliminates the need for multiple denoising operations. A single denoising operation produces a distribution from which multiple samples can be drawn, significantly enhancing efficiency. Moreover, EPD’s fine-tuning of the Plan contributes to improved model performance. We validate EPD on two publicly available datasets, where it achieves state-of-the-art results. Additionally, ablation experiments underscore the contributions of individual modules, affirming the efficacy of the proposed approach. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
