Proper ripeness categorization of oil palm fresh fruit bunches is essential to ensure they are harvested at the optimal stage to maximize oil output. The current manual method of ripeness assessment, which relies on harvesters visually inspecting the fruit's color, is both labor-intensive and prone to human error. To address these limitations, there is a growing need for an automated classification system that leverages artificial intelligence. The manual classification process is cumbersome and susceptible to inaccuracies due to its reliance on subjective visual inspection. This labor-intensive approach increases the likelihood of human error, underscoring the necessity for a more reliable and efficient automated solution. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the feasibility of using Convolutional Neural Networks for automating the grading based on color. A dataset was compiled from various sources and augmented using a data generator. The model was constructed incorporating a transfer learning approach with an Xception model. The model achieved an overall accuracy of 80.4%. Visualization of the model using activation maps confirmed that the model can effectively classify the color, indicating its potential viability for the task.

Introducing magnetic order into topological insulator（TI） to break the time-reversal symmetry can yield numerous fascinating physical phenomena,which brings new hope for the emerging spintronic *** proximity effect is regarded as a promising strategy that could advance the step for realistic application by choosing a suitable ferromagnetic layer with the merits of high Curie temperature and high compatibility with mainstream semiconductor ***,we prepare a Bi2Se3thin film on Sicompatible ferromagnetic semiconductor（FMS） of MnxGe1-xby molecular beam *** integration,the nonmagnetic Bi2Se3exhibits an anomalous Hall signal and a clear weak localization cusp in magnetoresistance until 150 K,confirming that a high-temperature magnetism can be induced by the proximity *** investigation of the magnetoconductance quantitatively indicates that the Bi2Se3conductance suffers a transition from weak antilocalization to weak localization behavior after integrating with MnxGe1-x,and an 80 meV bandgap is predicted to be opened in the surface states in Bi2Se3layer due to the proximityinduced *** results prove that the proximity effect could be an important method to achieve topological magnetism at high temperatures,and reveals its potential for the manipulation of the topological surface states.

Neural architecture search (NAS) automates neural network design by using optimization algorithms to navigate architecture spaces, reducing the burden of manual architecture design. While NAS has achieved success, applying it to emerging domains, such as analyzing unstructured 3D point clouds, remains underexplored due to the data lying in non-Euclidean spaces, unlike images. This paper presents Success-History-based Self-adaptive Differential Evolution with a Joint Point Interaction Dimension Search (SHSADE-PIDS), an evolution-ary NAS framework that encodes discrete deep neural network architectures to continuous spaces and performs searches in the continuous spaces for efficient point cloud neural architectures. Comprehensive experiments on challenging 3D segmentation and classification benchmarks demonstrate SHSADE-PIDS's capabilities. It discovered highly efficient architectures with higher accuracy, significantly advancing prior NAS techniques. For segmentation on SemanticKITTI, SHSADE-PIDS attained 64.51% mean IoU using only 0.55M parameters and 4.5GMACs, reducing overhead by over 22-26X versus other top methods. For ModelNet40 classification, it achieved 93.4% accuracy with just 1.31M parameters, surpassing larger models. SHSADE-PIDS provided valuable insights into bridging evolutionary algorithms with neural architecture optimization, particularly for emerging frontiers like point cloud learning.

The rapid advancement in deep learning-based object detection methods has made them a prevalent choice for real-time applications. Families of object detectors, including one-stage detectors, two-stage detectors, and region-based CNN networks, offer superior performance in accurately detecting objects. Despite their high accuracy, the complex design and black-box functionality of these models are not directly transferable in aerial imagery. Also, raise questions among users regarding the transparency of the algorithm in locating objects. Consequently, to demystify the decision process of these models, there is a need for Explainable AI (XAI) tools. XAI enables an understanding of the significance of each pixel in an image, shedding light on the contributions that lead to the model’s final output. In this context, this work will present an efficient, explainable, multi-scale vehicle detection network from high resolution aerial imagery, named as EVDNet. The EVDNet model has trained with two publicly available aerial image benchmark dataset DOTA and VEDAI. To enhance interpretability, we leverage XAI method using GradCam. The experimental results not only showcase the effectiveness and performance of the EVDNet model but also provide valuable insights into the object detection process. This research contributes to bridging the gap between complex object detection models and user understanding, offering a more transparent and interpretable approach to high-resolution aerial imagery analysis.

As remote sensing capabilities continue to advance, there is a growing interest in leveraging computer vision and natural language processing for enhanced interpretation of remote sensing scenes. This paper explores the integration of textual information with images to augment traditional disaster classification methods. Our approach utilizes a predefined vision-language model to generate descriptive captions for images, fostering a more nuanced understanding of the remote sensing data. Next, we seamlessly integrate the generated textual information with image data through multimodal training, employing a multimodal deep learning method for disaster classification. The system categorizes input data into predefined disaster categories, presenting a comprehensive and accurate approach to emergency response system development. Experimental evaluations conducted on the AIDER dataset (Aerial Image database for Emergency Response applications) showcase the efficacy of our approach, demonstrating improved accuracy compare to unimodal approach and reliability in disaster classification. This research contributes to the advancement of intelligent emergency response systems by harnessing the synergy between vision and language in the context of remote sensing.

Content-based recommender systems and collaborative filtering recommender systems might be useful in recommending items that might be preferred by users based on their preferences from the past, these systems rely on users’ preferences, items’ ratings, and items’ descriptions. Thus, these systems might be less useful for items for which users’ preferences and ratings cannot be easily collected. On the other hand, a constraint-based recommender system can suggest items that fulfil users’ requirements (or constraints) by relying on users’ requirements and knowledge about the domain of the items for giving a recommendation. In the case where, no item can be found, the system will proceed with the constraints of a relaxation phase to search for possible modifications in the constraints, give advice to the user, and enable them to edit their requirements to obtain more results. In this study, we propose a new approach called a mixed-based approach. The approach is based on an integration of soft and hard relaxation-based approaches. The proposed approach is implemented as a notebook recommender system. We conducted experiments on the proposed approach using collected data from e-commerce websites. The results also show that the proposed mixed-based approach is able to control constraints, and gives better performance in giving recommendations to users.

The key-value separation is renowned for its significant mitigation of the write amplification inherent in traditional LSM trees. However, KV separation potentially increases performance overhead in the management of Value region, especially for garbage collection (GC) operation that is used to reduce the redundant space occupation. In response, many efforts have been made to optimize the GC mechanism for KV separation. However, our analysis indicates that such solution based on trade-offs between CPU and I/O overheads cannot simultaneously satisfy the three requirements of KV separated systems in terms of throughput, tail latency, and space usage. This limitation hinders their real-world *** this paper, we introduce AegonKV, a "three-birds-one-stone" solution that comprehensively enhances the throughput, tail latency, and space usage of KV separated systems. AegonKV first proposes a SmartSSD-based GC offloading mechanism to enable asynchronous GC operations without competing with LSM read/write for bandwidth or CPU. AegonKV leverages offload-friendly data structures and hardware/ software execution logic to address the challenges of GC offloading. Experiments demonstrate that AegonKV achieves the largest throughput improvement of 1.28-3.3 times, a significant reduction of 37%-66% in tail latency, and 15%-85% in space overhead compared to existing KV separated systems.

Globally, the development of Intelligent Cyber-Physical Transportation Systems (ICTS) aims to tackle several challenges, including reducing traffic accidents and fuel usage, alleviating congestion, shortening travel time, and enhancing overall transportation safety. These systems leverage advanced customer-centric communication and networked control methods, such as inter-vehicle, vehicle-to-roadside (V2R), and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication through the use of vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) to cover all aspects of transportation-based information. In existing systems, once devices are registered with a Trusted Authority (TA), subsequent authentication still relies on the TA's assistance. However, these devices typically remain stationary, and frequent interaction with the TA becomes impractical and costly in highly mobile VANET environments. To address this challenge, we propose a secure access control protocol with conditional privacy for VANETs. Unlike other protocols, our protocol does not require the TA's involvement during authentication between vehicles and RSUs. Additionally, our protocol leverages pseudonym mechanisms to provide conditional privacy, enabling legitimate vehicles to remain anonymous while malicious ones can be tracked. Our proposed scheme is supported by both formal and informal security analyses and has been shown to be secure against several known attacks in VANETs. Furthermore, compared to relevant studies, our protocol achieves 30.2505% of efficiency in terms of computation cost and 11.09276% of efficiency in terms of communication cost, respectively. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Non-Volatile Main Memories (NVMMs) have recently emerged as a promising technology for future memory systems. Generally, NVMMs have many desirable properties such as high density, byte-addressability, non-volatility, low cost, and energy efficiency, at the expense of high write latency, high write power consumption, and limited write endurance. NVMMs have become a competitive alternative of Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM), and will fundamentally change the landscape of memory systems. They bring many research opportunities as well as challenges on system architectural designs, memory management in operating systems (OSes), and programming models for hybrid memory systems. In this article, we revisit the landscape of emerging NVMM technologies, and then survey the state-of-the-art studies of NVMM technologies. We classify those studies with a taxonomy according to different dimensions such as memory architectures, data persistence, performance improvement, energy saving, and wear leveling. Second, to demonstrate the best practices in building NVMM systems, we introduce our recent work of hybrid memory system designs from the dimensions of architectures, systems, and applications. At last, we present our vision of future research directions of NVMMs and shed some light on design challenges and opportunities.
