The motive of underwater image enhancement is to improve and enhance the quality of photographs taken underwater. Various traditonal image processing techniques and deep learning models have been developed to work on this task. But most often the deep learning models and conventional methods of image processing work in silos, leading to subpar results. This research proposes a strategy that utilizes a combination of both approaches to solve this issue. Initially, traditional image processing techniques like colour correction and image stretching are used to enhance the colour of the images. The enhanced images are then fed into a custom Real-ESRGAN model that has been fine-tuned on an underwater image dataset to optimize performance in this context. This hybrid approach has the potential to outperform the models utilizing either traditional or deep learning methods in isolation by leveraging the strengths of both. In addition, batch processing is used in the pipeline to efficiently handle multiple images at the same time. This effectively addresses the scalability problem that arises frequently in image enhancement tasks. With eye-catching visuals, the proposed methodology achieves a Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) of 23.66 and a Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 0.28, suggesting excellent image restoration and noise reduction. The qualitative assessments show that the improved image graphs have better colour, contrast, and clarity than the originals.

Crop yield forecasting has been thoroughly studied recently and has become more important in preserving the safety of food. The majority of studies have concentrated on obtaining fixed spatial data from remote sensing images. Crop development, however, is a very complicated attribute influenced by a variety of factors. This work is intended to concurrently use spatial and temporal information from multimodal remotely sensed images in order to fully investigate these diverse characteristics. With the goal to make use of their supportive nature, Spatio temporal Convolutional Neural Networks (STCNN), is proposed as a revolutionary deep learning architecture for agricultural production prediction. To recognize the combined spatial-temporal representation, the STCNN specifically combines a spatial training segment and a temporal dependent segment into the convolutional network. The innovative spatial training segment begins by extracting enough spatial information from the multimodal spatial images. Then, in order to determine the temporal connection from the lengthy time-series images, the temporal dependent segment is concatenated on top of the spatial training segment. Both common machine learning techniques and cutting-edge deep learning techniques are compared to the outcomes of the proposed method. The experimental findings show that the STCNN can offer superior prediction performance of 0.64 RMSE and 12.03 MAPE values compared to the rival methods with minimized errors. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents our Facial Action Units (AUs) detection submission to the fifth Affective Behavior Analysis in-the-wild Competition (ABAW). Our approach consists of three main modules: (i) a pre-trained facial representation encoder which produce a strong facial representation from each input face image in the input sequence;(ii) an AU-specific feature generator that specifically learns a set of AU features from each facial representation;and (iii) a spatio-temporal graph learning module that constructs a spatio-temporal graph representation. This graph representation describes AUs contained in all frames and predicts the occurrence of each AU based on both the modeled spatial information within the corresponding face and the learned temporal dynamics among frames. The experimental results show that our approach outperformed the baseline and the spatio-temporal graph representation learning allows our model to generate the best results among all ablated systems. This paper proposes a three-dimensional (3D) geometry-based channel model to accurately represent intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRS)-enhanced integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) networks using rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) in practical urban environments. Based on this model, we formulate an energy efficiency (EE) maximization problem that incorporates transceiver beamforming constraints, IRS phase adjustments, and quality-of-service (QoS) requirements to optimize communication and sensing functions. To solve this problem, we use the proximal policy optimization (PPO) algorithm within a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) framework. Our numerical results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method in improving EE and satisfying QoS requirements. Emotion recognition from facial expressions plays a pivotal role in human-computer interaction, psychology, marketing, and various other domains. This research paper presents a comprehensive study and implementation of an automated emotion recognition system based on deep learning techniques. The project addresses the challenge of accurately classifying a wide range of emotions from facial images in real-time. Leveraging Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and modern deep learning approaches, the system demonstrates high accuracy in identifying emotions, including happiness, sadness, anger, and more. This project used the image dataset FER-2013 for the mood prediction portion of the project, and Spotify music data to predict emotions for music recommendation. Both the datasets utilized are freely available on Kaggle. The proposed system can achieve an accuracy of 91.23% in predicting the users’ emotion based on their facial expressions.

Sarcasm is a language phenomenon usually employed to express negative sentiments in a humorous or critical manner. Although sarcasm is a widely used communication tool, it is often challenging to comprehend. The existing approaches for detecting sarcastic sentiments are mainly designed for English language text, and the study of low-resource languages has gained significant attention among scholars. Hence, this research aims to identify sarcasm in Twitter posts that include sentences in Tamil and Telugu languages. This paper presents the first effort to create two distinct datasets for sarcasm detection in Telugu and Tamil languages by scraping tweets from Twitter, thereby addressing the lack of such resources in these languages. To analyze sarcasm in Tamil and Telugu tweets, we proposed a variety of methodologies. These included machine learning models like Decision Tree, Naive Bayes, Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine, and Random Forest as well as sophisticated neural network techniques like Convolutional Neural Networks and Long Short-Term Memory. Our findings show that the Telugu and Tamil datasets achieved an accuracy rate of 95.68% and 95.37%. The results provide a better understanding of the use of sarcasm in low-resource languages and offer a foundation for further research in this field. This research paper contributes to the field of natural language processing by demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed methodologies in identifying sarcasm in Tamil and Telugu tweets.

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is an eye disease that can potentially cause significant injury in those diagnosed with diabetes. The condition arises due to issues with blood circulation to the retina, the delicate tissue in the posterior part of the eye. DR is recognized as the leading factor contributing to visual impairment among those affected by diabetes. However, timely identification and intervention might mitigate the occurrence of this condition. Conversely, the timely identification of DR poses challenges, while the diagnostic process can be laborious and time-intensive. The automated detection of DR necessitates categorizing colour retinal fundus pictures. This article presents a computer-aided diagnostic strategy that utilizes Deep Learning (DL) algorithms. In order to classify retinal fundus pictures, this study employed a combination of DL models, specifically ResNet50 and Inception V3. The studies are being conducted on the DIARETDB1 dataset. An analysis is conducted to compare the results of the suggested methodology. The comparison study results show that the proposed approach has more significant accuracy levels than the other methods. A high degree of accuracy, that is, 98.37%, has been attained by utilising the proposed techniques. © 2023 IEEE.

Circular RNA (circRNA) is an RNA molecule that plays an important role in both pathology and physiology. Accurate identification of associations between circRNAs and diseases is crucial for further physiology research. However, verifying the circRNA-disease associations (CDA) through biological experimental methods is time-consuming. Here, we propose a novel method combines Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) and Adversarially Regularized Variational Graph Autoencoder (ARVGA) to accurately predict CDA. Our model first fuses multi-source information in order to build circRNA similarity, disease similarity and circRNA-disease association matrices. Thereby our model constructs graphs for circRNA and disease respectively and optimize them using a K-means clustering algorithm. We obtain linear features using NMF and non-linear features using ARVGA. Finally, an Extremely Randomized Trees classifier is employed to predict CDA. On the gold standard dataset CircR2Disease, our model achieved a prediction accuracy of 94.8% and an AUC of 0.984 under 5-fold cross-validation. In case study, 19 of top 20 predicted circRNAs associated with Hepatocellular Carcinoma were confirmed in relevant literature. Furthermore, ablation experiment, classifier experiment and independent datasets test fully demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of our model. © 2024 IEEE.

Large kernels make standard convolutional neural networks (CNNs) great again over transformer architectures in various vision tasks. Nonetheless, recent studies meticulously designed around increasing kernel size have shown diminishing returns or stagnation in performance. Thus, the hidden factors of large kernel convolution that affect model performance remain unexplored. In this paper, we reveal that the key hidden factors of large kernels can be summarized as two separate components: extracting features at a certain granularity and fusing features by multiple pathways. To this end, we leverage the multi-path long-distance sparse dependency relationship to enhance feature utilization via the proposed Shiftwise (SW) convolution operator with a pure CNN architecture. In a wide range of vision tasks such as classification, segmentation, and detection, SW surpasses state-of-the-art transformers and CNN architectures, including SLaK and UniRepLKNet. More importantly, our experiments demonstrate that 3 × 3 convolutions can replace large convolutions in existing large kernel CNNs to achieve comparable effects, which may inspire follow-up works. Video scene detection involves assessing whether each shot and its surroundings belong to the same scene. Achieving this requires meticulously correlating multi-modal cues, e.g. visual entity and place modalities, among shots and comparing semantic changes around each shot. However, most methods treat multi-modal semantics equally and do not examine contextual differences between the two sides of a shot, leading to sub-optimal detection performance. In this paper, we propose the Modality-Aware Shot Relating and Comparing approach (MASRC), which enables relating shots per their own characteristics of visual entity and place modalities, as well as comparing multi-shots similarities to have scene changes explicitly encoded. Specifically, to fully harness the potential of visual entity and place modalities in modeling shot relations, we mine long-term shot correlations from entity semantics while simultaneously revealing short-term shot correlations from place semantics. In this way, we can learn distinctive shot features that consolidate coherence within scenes and amplify distinguishability across scenes. Once equipped with distinctive shot features, we further encode the relations between preceding and succeeding shots of each target shot by similarity convolution, aiding in the identification of scene ending shots. We validate the broad applicability of the proposed components in MASRC. Extensive experimental results on public benchmark datasets demonstrate that the proposed MASRC significantly advances video scene detection.
