Crowd counting for static images is one of the typical application fields of image processing. it is essential to direct crowd analysis for public security purposes under the background of a rapidly growing social environment. Crowd counting for static images involves crucial challenges such as occlusions, scale variations, scene perspective distortions and diverse crowd distributions. It has now become an independent research hotspot. This paper investigates the literature of crowd counting tasks, summarizes the evolution of counting approaches, compares and analyzes traditional methods and current trends of CNN estimation-based counting, and then evaluates common datasets for crowd counting tasks. Conclusions concerning summarizations and prospects are made.

One of the most popular method for Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis is exploring the Brain functional connectivity (FC) from resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (RS-fMRI). To early prevent AD, it is crucial to distinguish AD and and its preclinical stage, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and early MCI (eMCI). In many existing works, dynamic functional connectivity (dFC) which contains rich spatiotemporal information has been exploited for the MCI and eMCI identification. However, most of these dFC based methods only consider the correlation between discrete brain status while ignore the valuable spatiotemporal information contained in dFC. To overcome this limitation, we propose a matrix classifier based method on the dFC signal for MCI and eMCI identification. Specifically, we first represent the dFC correlations by matrix features which contain rich spatiotemporal information and then learn the support matrix machines (SMM) to classify AD and its preclinical stage. Experiments on 600 real people data provide by the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) demonstrate that our proposed matrix classifier based method outperforms other FC and dFC based methods for both normal controls (NC)/MCI identification and NC/eMCI identification.

With the recent advances of the Internet of Things, and the increasing accessibility to ubiquitous computing resources and mobile devices, the prevalence of rich media contents, and the ensuing social, economic, and cultural changes, computing technology and applications have evolved quickly over the past decade. They now go beyond personal computing, facilitating collaboration and social interactions in general, causing a quick proliferation of social relationships among IoT entities. The increasing number of these relationships and their heterogeneous social features have led to computing and communication bottlenecks that prevent the IoT network from taking advantage of these relationships to improve the offered services and customize the delivered content, known as social relationships explosion. On the other hand, the quick advances in artificial intelligence applications in social computing have led to the emerging of a promising research field known as Artificial Social Intelligence (ASI) that has the potential to tackle the social relationships explosion problem. This paper discusses the role of IoT in social relationships management, the problem of social relationships explosion in IoT, and reviews the proposed solutions using ASI, including social-oriented machine-learning and deep-learning techniques. Existing unsupervised document hashing methods are mostly established on generative models. Due to the difficulties of capturing long dependency structures, these methods rarely model the raw documents directly, but instead to model the features extracted from them (e.g. bag-of-words (BOW), TFIDF). In this paper, we propose to learn hash codes from BERT embeddings after observing their tremendous successes on downstream tasks. As a first try, we modify existing generative hashing models to accommodate the BERT embeddings. However, little improvement is observed over the codes learned from the old BOW or TFIDF features. We attribute this to the reconstruction requirement in the generative hashing, which will enforce irrelevant information that is abundant in the BERT embeddings also compressed into the codes. To remedy this issue, a new unsupervised hashing paradigm is further proposed based on the mutual information (MI) maximization principle. Specifically, the method first constructs appropriate global and local codes from the documents and then seeks to maximize their mutual information. Experimental results on three benchmark datasets demonstrate that the proposed method is able to generate hash codes that outperform existing ones learned from BOW features by a substantial margin. With the rapid development of machine learning in recent years, many problems in meteorology can now be addressed using AI models. In particular, data-driven algorithms have significantly improved accuracy compared to traditional methods. Meteorological data is often transformed into 2D images or 3D videos, which are then fed into AI models for learning. Additionally, these models often incorporate physical signals, such as temperature, pressure, and wind speed, to further enhance accuracy and interpretability. In this paper, we review several representative AI + Weather/Climate algorithms and propose a new paradigm where observational data from different perspectives, each with distinct physical meanings, are treated as multimodal data and integrated via transformers. Furthermore, key weather and climate knowledge can be incorporated through regularization techniques to further strengthen the model’s capabilities. This new paradigm is versatile and can address a variety of tasks, offering strong generalizability. We also discuss future directions for improving model accuracy and interpretability. We present graph wavelet neural network (GWNN), a novel graph convolutional neural network (CNN), leveraging graph wavelet transform to address the shortcomings of previous spectral graph CNN methods that depend on graph Fourier transform. Different from graph Fourier transform, graph wavelet transform can be obtained via a fast algorithm without requiring matrix eigendecomposition with high computational cost. Moreover, graph wavelets are sparse and localized in vertex domain, offering high efficiency and good interpretability for graph convolution. The proposed GWNN significantly outperforms previous spectral graph CNNs in the task of graph-based semi-supervised classification on three benchmark datasets: Cora, Citeseer and Pubmed. © 7th International Conference on Learning Representations, ICLR 2019. The Low-Altitude Economy Networking (LAENet) is emerging as a transformative paradigm that enables an integrated and sophisticated communication infrastructure to support aerial vehicles in carrying out a wide range of economic activities within low-altitude airspace. However, the physical layer communications in the LAENet face growing security threats due to inherent characteristics of aerial communication environments, such as signal broadcast nature and channel openness. These challenges highlight the urgent need for safeguarding communication confidentiality, availability, and integrity. In view of the above, this survey comprehensively reviews existing secure countermeasures for physical layer communication in the LAENet. We explore core methods focusing on anti-eavesdropping and authentication for ensuring communication confidentiality. Subsequently, availability-enhancing techniques are thoroughly discussed for anti-jamming and spoofing defense. Then, we review approaches for safeguarding integrity through anomaly detection and injection protection. Furthermore, we discuss future research directions, emphasizing energy-efficient physical layer security, multi-drone collaboration for secure communication, AI-driven security defense strategy, space-air-ground integrated security architecture, and 6G-enabled secure UAV communication. This survey may provide valuable references and new insights for researchers in the field of secure physical layer communication for the LAENet. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women worldwide, and early detection can significantly reduce the mortality rate of breast cancer. It is crucial to take multiscale information of tissue structure into account in the detection of breast cancer. And thus, it is the key to design an accurate computer-aided detection (CAD) system to capture multi-scale contextual features in a cancerous tissue. In this work, we present a novel graph convolutional neural network for histopathological image classification of breast cancer. The new method, named multi-scale graph wavelet neural network (MS-GWNN), leverages the localization property of spectral graph wavelet to perform multi-scale analysis. By aggregating features at different scales, MS-GWNN can encode the multi-scale contextual interactions in the whole pathological slide. Experimental results on two public datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method. Moreover, through ablation studies, we find that multi-scale analysis has a significant impact on the accuracy of cancer diagnosis. © 2020, CC BY-NC-SA.

Correlation filter-based trackers have achieved competitive results in the field of visual tracking, but the abilities to deal with the multi-scale and keep the tracking stability still need to be improved. In this article, the complex background tracking problems are studied based on the kernel correlation filter. In order to address the fixed size limitation, we present an improved scheme, which can not only realize scale adaption, but also retain the advantages of the original algorithm. In addition, the adaptive update learning rate of the model is achieved by using the peak sidelobe ratio as an indicator to measure the filter performance. Using the index, we can selectively reduce the model interference to low precision information. Moreover, we design a redetection mechanism that runs automatically when the tracking evaluation indicator is low. Compared with the radical model update methods, those conservative update strategies can effectively decrease the model pollution and ensure the tracking effect. Extensive verifications based on OTB-100 benchmark show that the optimized algorithm improves the accuracy, robustness, and generalization ability of target tracking.
