Automated face recognition using deep learning technique and center symmetric multivariant local binary pattern

Researchers have recently created several deep learning strategies for various tasks, and facial recognition has made remarkable progress in employing these techniques. Face recognition is a noncontact, nonobligatory, acceptable, and harmonious biometric recognition method with a promising national and social security future. The purpose of this paper is to improve the existing face recognition algorithm, investigate extensive data-driven face recognition methods, and propose a unique automated face recognition methodology based on generative adversarial networks (GANs) and the center symmetric multivariable local binary pattern (CS-MLBP). To begin, this paper employs the center symmetric multivariant local binary pattern (CS-MLBP) algorithm to extract the texture features of the face, addressing the issue that C2DPCA (column-based two-dimensional principle component analysis) does an excellent job of removing the global characteristics of the face but struggles to process the local features of the face under large samples. The extracted texture features are combined with the international features retrieved using C2DPCA to generate a multifeatured face. The proposed method, GAN-CS-MLBP, syndicates the power of GAN with the robustness of CS-MLBP, resulting in an accurate and efficient face recognition system. Deep learning algorithms, mainly neural networks, automatically extract discriminative properties from facial images. The learned features capture low-level information and high-level meanings, permitting the model to distinguish among dissimilar persons more successfully. To assess the proposed technique’s GAN-CS-MLBP performance, extensive experiments are performed on benchmark face recognition datasets such as LFW, YTF, and CASIA-WebFace. Giving to the findings, our method exceeds state-of-the-art facial recognition systems in terms of recognition accuracy and resilience. Most blockchain systems currently adopt resource-consuming protocols to achieve consensus between miners;for example,the Proof-of-Work(PoW)and Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerant(PBFT)schemes,which have a high consumption of computing/communication resources and usually require reliable communications with bounded ***,these protocols may be unsuitable for Internet of Things(IoT)networks because the IoT devices are usually lightweight,battery-operated,and deployed in an unreliable wireless ***,this paper studies an efficient consensus protocol for blockchain in IoT networks via reinforcement ***,the consensus protocol in this work is designed on the basis of the Proof-of-Communication(PoC)scheme directly in a single-hop wireless network with unreliable communications.A distributed MultiAgent Reinforcement Learning(MARL)algorithm is proposed to improve the efficiency and fairness of consensus for miners in the blockchain *** this algorithm,each agent uses a matrix to depict the efficiency and fairness of the recent consensus and tunes its actions and rewards carefully in an actor-critic framework to seek effective *** results from the simulation show that the fairness of consensus in the proposed algorithm is guaranteed,and the efficiency nearly reaches a centralized optimal solution.

PECMS: modeling a personalized energy and comfort management system based on residents’ behavior anticipation in smart home

Indoor electrical systems are aimed to provide comfort to the occupants. However, their operation is contingent on the presence or needs of the residents. Hence, to optimize energy consumption and guarantee the desired comfort level of residents, any indoor energy control system should consider the occupancy dynamism within houses and the occupants' behavior patterns. Moreover, there is a growing demand for localized and personalized comfort controls in residential buildings to improve the occupants’ satisfaction. This paper presents a Personalized Energy and Comfort Management System (PECMS) that optimizes building energy consumption and meanwhile maintains residents’ intended comfort levels by predicting their trajectories. Considering home thermal characterization, PECMS coordinates the building system devices and residents by anticipating residents’ behavior using an activity mining and tracking method. With this capability, efficient scheduling of the electrical devices would be achieved. PECMS is simulated and tested on a dataset from a real-world smart home project, including the home’s actual thermal zones, temperatures, and residents’ preferences. Comparative analysis is conducted to evaluate PECMS against existing methods and systems, showcasing its effectiveness in achieving the desired trade-off between energy consumption and occupant comfort levels. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

In the current academic environment, the increasing prevalence of stress among students has become a critical concern, significantly affecting both mental health and academic outcomes. Factors such as heavy academic workloads, interpersonal conflicts, financial challenges, and societal pressures contribute to cognitive impairments, procrastination, and declining academic performance. Unaddressed, this stress can escalate into severe mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and self-harming tendencies, with marginalized or overwhelmed students being particularly vulnerable. Familial expectations, financial instability, imposter syndrome, fear of missing out, cyberbullying, and unsupportive institutional cultures further intensify these challenges. While mental health support mechanisms exist within institutions, they often remain reactive, addressing issues only after they manifest. To address this growing crisis, a shift toward proactive measures is essential, encompassing counseling, meditation, peer support systems, and engagement in extracurricular activities to foster emotional resilience. A holistic and preventative approach that emphasizes early intervention, open communication, and supportive academic environments is imperative to promote students' well-being and academic success. © 1988-2012 IEEE.

Design and Characterization of High Quality-Factor Inductors for Wireless Systems Compatible With Flexible Large-Area Electronics

Resonant operation, exploiting high quality-factor planar inductors, has recently enabled gigahertz (GHz) applications for large-area electronics (LAE), providing a new technology platform for large-scale and flexible wireless systems. This work first presents the design, analysis, and characterization methodology of flex-compatible large-area planar inductors. Specifically, three distinct radio frequency (RF) inductor characterization methods are experimentally demonstrated and compared, with the most accurate method among them (i.e., S-parameters in a two-port configuration) demonstrating a record-high quality factor of up to 65in the 2.4-GHz frequency band. Enabled by accurate characterization, key inductor design considerations regarding the resistive loss due to inductor's metal traces are then discussed. Finally, a case study of the recently demonstrated LAE resonant switch shows the potential of these high-performance inductors towards large-area and conformal wireless systems for integrated Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G/6G applications. © 2022 IEEE.

This article presents an in-depth exploration of the acoustofluidic capabilities of guided flexural waves(GFWs)generated by a membrane acoustic waveguide actuator(MAWA).By harnessing the potential of GFWs,cavity-agnostic advanced particle manipulation functions are achieved,unlocking new avenues for microfluidic systems and lab-on-a-chip *** localized acoustofluidic effects of GFWs arising from the evanescent nature of the acoustic fields they induce inside a liquid medium are numerically investigated to highlight their unique and promising *** traditional acoustofluidic technologies,the GFWs propagating on the MAWA’s membrane waveguide allow for cavity-agnostic particle manipulation,irrespective of the resonant properties of the fluidic ***,the acoustofluidic functions enabled by the device depend on the flexural mode populating the active region of the membrane *** demonstrations using two types of particles include in-sessile-droplet particle transport,mixing,and spatial separation based on particle diameter,along with streaming-induced counter-flow virtual channel generation in microfluidic PDMS *** experiments emphasize the versatility and potential applications of the MAWA as a microfluidic platform targeted at lab-on-a-chip development and showcase the MAWA’s compatibility with existing microfluidic systems.

TRS Scheduling for Improved QoS Performance in Cloud System

Numerous methods are analysed in detail to improve task schedulingand data security performance in the cloud environment. The methodsinvolve scheduling according to the factors like makespan, waiting time,cost, deadline, and popularity. However, the methods are inappropriate forachieving higher scheduling performance. Regarding data security, existingmethods use various encryption schemes but introduce significant serviceinterruption. This article sketches a practical Real-time Application CentricTRS (Throughput-Resource utilization–Success) Scheduling with Data Security(RATRSDS) model by considering all these issues in task scheduling anddata security. The method identifies the required resource and their claim timeby receiving the service requests. Further, for the list of resources as services,the method computes throughput support (Thrs) according to the number ofstatements executed and the complete statements of the service. Similarly, themethod computes Resource utilization support (Ruts) according to the idletime on any duty cycle and total servicing time. Also, the method computesthe value of Success support (Sus) according to the number of completions forthe number of allocations. The method estimates the TRS score (ThroughputResource utilization Success) for different resources using all these supportmeasures. According to the value of the TRS score, the services are rankedand scheduled. On the other side, based on the requirement of service requests,the method computes Requirement Support (RS). The selection of service isperformed and allocated. Similarly, choosing the route according to the RouteSupport Measure (RSM) enforced route security. Finally, data security hasgets implemented with a service-based encryption technique. The RATRSDSscheme has claimed higher performance in data security and scheduling.

As big data,Artificial Intelligence,and Vehicle-to-Everything(V2X)communication have advanced,Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS)are being developed to enable efficient and safe transportation *** Toll Collection(ETC),which is one of the services included in ITS systems,is an automated system that allows vehicles to pass through toll plazas without stopping for manual *** ETC system is widely deployed on highways due to its contribution to stabilizing the overall traffic system *** ensure secure and efficient toll payments,designing a distributed model for sharing toll payment information among untrusted toll service providers is ***,the current ETC system operates under a centralized ***,both toll service providers and toll plazas know the toll usage history of *** raises concerns about revealing the entire driving routes and patterns of *** address these issues,blockchain technology,suitable for secure data management and data sharing in distributed systems,is being applied to the ETC *** enables efficient and transparent management of ETC ***,the public nature of blockchain poses a challenge where users’usage records are exposed to all *** tackle this,we propose a blockchain-based toll ticket model named AnonymousTollPass that considers the privacy of *** proposed model utilizes traceable ring signatures to provide unlinkability between tickets used by a vehicle and prevent the identity of the vehicle using the ticket from being identified among the ring members for the ***,malicious vehicles’identities can be traced when they attempt to reuse *** conducting simulations,we show the effectiveness of the proposed model and demonstrate that gas fees required for executing the proposed smart contracts are only 10%(when the ring size is 50)of the fees required in previous studies.

Deep ensemble model for skin cancer classification with improved feature set

Early identification of skin cancer is mandatory to minimize the worldwide death rate as this disease is covering more than 30% of mortality rates in young and adults. Researchers are in the move of proposing advanced models for the accurate classification of skin disease. This paper introduces a novel skin cancer detection model under the stages of preprocessing, feature extraction, classification as well as segmentation. The given input is first preprocessed via Gaussian filtering. Subsequently, the Deep learning model termed as ‘U-net’ is used for the segmentation process. Afterward, the extraction of the feature set including features like Improved Center symmetric Local Binary Pattern (ICS-LBP), Local Gradient Pattern (LGP), Median binary pattern (MBP) is performed. Classification takes place using Deep Ensemble Model based on the extracted features, that includes BiGRU, Deep Maxout, and Improved Deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), respectively. Also, as the hyperparameter tuning of the classification model enhances the performance, this work introduces a new Hybrid Atom and Arithmetic Operation Algorithm (HAAOA) algorithm for tuning the optimal weights of the Bi-GRU (Bi-directional Gated Recurrent Unit) and Deep Maxout model. At last, the validation of the proposed work is performed through different performance measures by comparing it with different algorithms. Accordingly, accuracy of the adopted method at 90th learning percentage is 93.56%, which is (~) 82.63%, 85.15%, 84.98%, 83.66% and 83.42% better than AOA, ASO, BWO, BMO and DO, respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.
