Enterprise Architecture (EA) has gained popularity as an enabler for rapid organizational change with regard to controlling, optimizing and complexity management. It is thus regarded as organizations’ blueprint for adaptability, change, evolution and therefore growth. However, its mere deployment would not necessarily yield favorable results;instead, results may vary from one organization to another. This necessitates investigations on organizations’ readiness prior to the deployment of EA as well as appropriate mechanisms for monitoring its value during deployment and its impact post-deployment. We hereby, propose a framework for measuring the value of EA in organizations with focus on the telecommunication industry within South Africa. It is shown from case studies that the framework could help organizations not only to make an informed decision on whether to deploy EA or not, but also to constantly monitor its benefits (if any) during its deployment and beyond. © Institute for Computer Sciences, Social informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2015.

In the current scenario Cognitive Radio (CR) is the best available solution to overcome spectrum shortage problem. Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Networks (CRAHNs) is the use of CR technology in the wireless ad-hoc network scenario. The field of CRAHNs is still in this nascent stage therefore not much work has been done related to security issues associated with these types of networks. In order to provide secure data transmission over these networks it is mandatory to make these networks robust and less vulnerable against the various types of attacks. Through this report we have presented an implementation and simulation study of Network Layer Attacks primarily Black Hole Attack and Gray Hole Attack in detail with their impacts on the various network parameters. The Black Hole Attack is a type of Denial of Service(DoS) attack where the node that has turned malicious advertises itself as the most optimal path to reach the destination, thus drawing all the traffic towards itself and later either it drops all the received packets or prevent them from reaching their destinations. The Gray Hole Attack is a variation of black hole attack in which selective forwarding principles are used to selectively drop some data and to forward the rest. In this Project using NS2 with the CRAHN extension as the simulator, effect of these attacks on the various network parameters of CRAHNs have been recorded and compared to present an oversight of how performance is affected whenever the network gets injected with these attacks. © 2015 IEEE.

Clinical depression is a mental disorder involving genetics and environmental factors. Although much work studied its genetic causes and numerous candidate genes have consequently been looked into and reported in the biomedical literature, no gene expression changes or mutations regarding depression have yet been adequately collected and analyzed for its full pathophysiology. In this paper, we present a depression-specific annotated corpus for text mining systems that target at providing a concise review of depression-gene relations, as well as capturing complex biological events such as gene expression changes. We describe the annotation scheme and the conducted annotation procedure in detail. We discuss issues regarding proper recognition of depression terms and entity interactions for future approaches to the task. It becomes essential when reasoning about the security risks to critical utilities such electrical power and water distribution to recognize that the interests of producers and consumers do not fully coincide. They may have incentives to behave strategically towards each other, as well as toward some third party adversary. We therefore argue for the need to extend the prior literature, which has concentrated on the strategic, adaptive game between adversary and defender, towards 3-player games. But it becomes hard to justify modelling a population of consumers as a single, decision making actor. So we also show how we can model consumers as a group of mutually-influencing, yet not centrally co-ordinated, heterogeneous agents. And we suggest how this representation can be integrated into a game-theoretic framework. This requires a framework in which payoffs are known by the players only stochastically. We present some basic models and demonstrate the nature of the modelling commitments that need to be made in order to reason about utilities' security risk.

We show how faceted search using a combination of traditional classification sys-tems and mixed-membership topic models can go beyond keyword search to inform re-source discovery, hypothesis formulation, and argument extraction for interdisciplinary research. Our test domain is the history and philosophy of scientific work on animal mind and cognition. The methods can be generalized to other research areas and ul-timately support a system for semi-automatic identification of argument structures. We provide a case study for the application of the methods to the problem of identi-fying and extracting arguments about anthropomorphism during a critical period in the development of comparative psychology. We show how a combination of classifi-cation systems and mixed-membership models trained over large digital libraries can inform resource discovery in this domain. Through a novel approach of \drill-down" topic modeling|simultaneously reducing both the size of the corpus and the unit of analysis|we are able to reduce a large collection of fulltext volumes to a much smaller set of pages within six focal volumes containing arguments of interest to historiansand philosophers of comparative psychology. The volumes identified in this way did not appear among the first ten results of the keyword search in the HathiTrust digital library and the pages bear the kind of \close reading" needed to generate original in-terpretations that is the heart of scholarly work in the humanities. Zooming back out, we provide a way to place the books onto a map of science originally constructed from very different data and for different purposes. The multilevel approach advances un-derstanding of the intellectual and societal contexts in which writings are interpreted. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper presents an iris segmentation algorithm. The proposed technique applies a histogram based method on the input eye image extracting a point within the pupil. The image is then intensity sampled over M equiangular radial scan line, generating M 1-dimensional signals. A Fuzzy multi-scale edge detection algorithm is then applied to each of the resulting radii signals, to accurately detect and locate one positive edge point from the signal. A uniform cubic B-spline approximation method is further applied to the detected edges determining the iris outer boundary. The histogram of the area within the extracted outer iris bondary of the eye image is finaly used to extract the pupil outer bondary. Experimental results on a number of eye test images taken under visible wavelenght from UBIRISv.1 and UBIRISv.2 databases show that the proposed segmentation method accurately extracts the iris boundaries.

This research paper examined the connectedness of STEM faculty to others both within and across academic departments who might be potential resources for diffusion of Learner-centered practices, and the impact of participants' social networks on their Learner-centered beliefs and practices. The research question under investigation was: To what extent is the degree of social connectedness among faculty within and among STEM departments related to the degree of implementation of Learner-centered practices? Participants were recruited from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics departments, and from departments in the College of Engineering. The sample began with 21 randomly-selected faculty from each department engaged in the STEM instruction of first and second year engineering students. The second level consisted of the colleagues identified by the first level as people they utilize as resources for improving their instruction. The connectedness of faculty in the network was examined using network analysis, focusing on both number of connections, and depth of connections. Attitude and Observation Protocol measures were used as outcomes. Results show that faculty classified as Learner-Centered had deeper and more extensive social networks. Results are discussed in terms of the need for intra- and inter-departmental faculty professional development experiences that both introduce and encourage faculty to trial new tools and techniques, but that also run for the longterm, supporting collaborative organizations of faculty working together to transform early engineering experiences. © American Society for Engineering Education, 2016.
