In this research paper, we adopt an integrative view of user involvement in software development;where, a user's psychological state, at various phases of development, is linked to the contribution of user involvement in the success of software development. We explore the link between creativity and emotional design in order to evolve a conceptual framework for studying creativity in the fast growing area of mobile applications (apps) development. Action research, which is regarded as participatory, emancipatory and contextual, was adopted in this study. The study used a case study design and a survey of 1 502 students registered for a first year course in Management Information Systems at a large urban University in South Africa. Results from this study found that for app development to be more creative and innovative, emotional design should be part of the broader process of improving requirements engineering in Information Systems Development (ISD). We also found that in situations where emotional feedback is genuine, requirements engineering problems related to the "misinformation effect" common in ISD can be minimized. The third claim we affirm stronger is how users in ISD play a closer role as co-developers of mobile apps in order to realize true creativity and innovativeness. This study further demonstrated how subjective feelings in ISD can be evaluated using visual artifacts such as the Emocard.

It is difficult for large research facilities to quantify a return on the investments that fund their operations. This is because there can be a time lag of years or decades between an innovation or discovery and the realization of its value through practical application. This report presents a three-part methodology that attempts to assess the value of federal investment in XSEDE: 1) a qualitative examination of the areas where XSEDE adds value to the activities of the open research community, 2) a "thought model" examining the cost avoidance realized by the National Science Foundation (NSF) through the centralization and coordination XSEDE provides, and 3) an assessment of the value XSEDE provides to Service Providers in the XD ecosystem. XSEDE adds significantly to the US research community because it functions as a unified interface to the XD ecosystem and because of its scale. A partly quantitative, partly qualitative analysis suggests the Return on Investment of NSF spending on XSEDE is greater than 1.0, indicating that the aggregate value received by the nation from XSEDE is greater than the cost of direct federal investment in XSEDE. © 2015 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s).

We analyze evolution of trust networks in social media sites from a perspective of mediators. To this end, we propose two stochastic models that simulate the dynamics of creating a trust link under the presence of mediators, the A-ME and A-MAE models, where the A-ME model analyzes mediator effects for trust-network evolution in terms of mediator types, and the A-MAE model, an extension of the A-ME model, analyzes mediator-activity effects for trust-network *** present an efficient method of inferring the values of model parameters from an observed sequence of trust links and user activities. Using real data from Epinions, we experimentally show that the A-MAE model significantly outperforms the A-ME model for predicting trust links in the near future under the presence of mediators, and demonstrate the effectiveness of mediator-activity information for trust-network evolution. We further clarify, by using the A-ME and A-MAE models, several characteristic properties of trust-link creation probability in the Epinions data. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

A direct search for the standard model Higgs boson decaying to a pair of charm quarks is presented. Associated production of the Higgs and Z bosons, in the decay mode ZH→ℓ+ℓ−cc¯ is studied. A data set with an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb−1 of pp collisions at s=13TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC is used. The H→cc¯ signature is identified using charm-tagging algorithms. The observed (expected) upper limit on σ(pp→ZH)×B(H→cc¯) is 2.7 (3.9−1.1+2.1) pb at the 95% confidence level for a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV, while the standard model value is 26 fb.

A search for the narrow structure, X(5568), reported by the D0 Collaboration in the decay sequence X→Bs0π±, Bs0→J/ψϕ, is presented. The analysis is based on a data sample recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC corresponding to 4.9 fb−1 of pp collisions at 7 TeV and 19.5 fb−1 at 8 TeV. No significant signal was found. Upper limits on the number of signal events, with properties corresponding to those reported by D0, and on the X production rate relative to Bs0 mesons, ρX, were determined at 95% confidence level. The results are N(X)<382 and ρX<0.015 for Bs0 mesons with transverse momenta above 10 GeV, and N(X)<356 and ρX<0.016 for transverse momenta above 15 GeV. Limits are also set for potential Bs0π± resonances in the mass range 5550 to 5700 MeV.

A search for high-mass resonances decaying to τν using proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV produced by the Large Hadron Collider is presented. Only τ-lepton decays with hadrons in the final state are considered. The data were recorded with the ATLAS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb−1. No statistically significant excess above the standard model expectation is observed; model-independent upper limits are set on the visible τν production cross section. Heavy W′ bosons with masses less than 3.7 TeV in the sequential standard model and masses less than 2.2–3.8 TeV depending on the coupling in the nonuniversal G(221) model are excluded at the 95% credibility level.

Healthcare information management systems (HIMS) have a substantial amount of limitations such as rigidity and nonconformity to complex clinical processes like Electronic Healthcare records and effective utilisation of clinical practice guidelines to help provide effective clinical decision support. The conventional healthcare systems suffer from a general lack of intelligence, they are successful in offering basic patient management capabilities, but they do not offer consistent and holistic decision support capabilities for clinicians working under tight deadlines in a fast paced environment. The conventional healthcare information management systems are designed using branching logic based rigid architectures, which are hard to maintain and upgrade without considerable labour intensive effort. The proposed ontology and machine learning driven hybrid clinical decision support framework comprises of two key components (1) ontology driven clinical risk assessment and recommendation system and (2) machine learning driven prognostic system. The key aim of our research is to utilise information collected through the knowledge based ontology driven clinical risk assessment and recommendation system and non-knowledge based/evidence based machine learning driven prognostic system to deliver a holistic clinical decision support framework in the cardiovascular domain. The ontology driven clinical risk assessment and recommendation system could be used as a triage system for cardiovascular patients as a preventative solution, this could help clinicians prioritise patient referrals after reviewing a snapshot of patient's medical history (collected through an ontology driven intelligent context aware information collection using standardised clinical questionnaires) containing patient demographics information, cardiac risk scores, cardiac chest pain score, medication and recommended lab tests details.
