MeshWGAN: Mesh-to-Mesh Wasserstein GAN with Multi-Task Gradient Penalty for 3D Facial Geometric Age Transformation

As the metaverse develops rapidly, 3D facial age transformation is attracting increasing attention, which may bring many potential benefits to a wide variety of users, e.g., 3D aging figures creation, 3D facial data augmentation and editing. Compared with 2D methods, 3D face aging is an underexplored problem. To fill this gap, we propose a new mesh-to-mesh Wasserstein generative adversarial network (MeshWGAN) with a multi-task gradient penalty to model a continuous bi-directional 3D facial geometric aging process. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first architecture to achieve 3D facial geometric age transformation via real 3D scans. As previous image-to-image translation methods cannot be directly applied to the 3D facial mesh, which is totally different from 2D images, we built a mesh encoder, decoder, and multi-task discriminator to facilitate mesh-to-mesh transformations. To mitigate the lack of 3D datasets containing children's faces, we collected scans from 765 subjects aged 5-17 in combination with existing 3D face databases, which provided a large training dataset. Experiments have shown that our architecture can predict 3D facial aging geometries with better identity preservation and age closeness compared to 3D trivial baselines. We also demonstrated the advantages of our approach via various 3D face-related graphics applications. © 1995-2012 IEEE.

The project covered in this paper outlines the development and implementation of an advanced wireless sound control system to enhance user experience in handling audio settings over different devices and environments. The system leverages modern wireless communication technologies, like Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Wi-Fi, to achieve seamless, real-time audio control, synchronization, and remote control capabilities. Proprietary software development, micro-controllers, and wireless transceivers are utilized to enable users to control volume levels, equalization, and source selection with ease using mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets. The intended system ensures low-latency, high-fidelity audio transmission, making it greatly applicable to smart homes, professional audio, and public address systems. Rigorous testing in multiple environments confirms its reliability, featuring superior synchronization, zero latency, and enhanced usability compared to standard wired systems. This work has important contributions towards the evolution of wireless audio control technologies, and it lays the groundwork for future intelligent and more flexible audio management systems.

One of the most important aspects of any network, whether wired or wireless, is keeping the transmitter and receiver’s time in sync. In a mobile ad hoc network, each node is constantly adapting to its immediate surroundings. Without oversight or centralized communication, the data sending and receiving is executed autonomously. A novel method for ensuring consistent communication in dynamic networks using clock synchronization and multicast routing is presented in this study. Group communication is possible using the multicast routing protocol;each group consists of many nodes, each of which has its own unique clock time and a designated coordinator. According to the average time beacon of all groups in MANET, the clocks of all mobile nodes are synchronized in the proposed study. One way to boost network efficiency is using the suggested multicast Average Time Clock beacon Synchronization (Avg-SYN-CLK) protocol. Compared to Asynchronies Clock Time Performance (ASYN-CLK) and the Maximum Clock Time Synchronization (MAX-SYN-CLK) beacon broadcasting method, the suggested global clock synchronization scheme outperforms both in terms of end-to-end delay and packet loss. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

QuickPass is an innovative project which uses IoT and RFID technology to improve ambulance response. By deploying RFID receivers at traffic signal intersections, the system detects approaching ambulances and adjusts traffic signals to give priority passage to the emergency vehicle, significantly reducing delays and ensuring smooth journeys. A real-time traffic management database for interactions with emergency vehicles enables officials to analyze the response patterns and optimize the routes. An app helps ambulance drivers to select the patient priority to adjust the signals based on the situation and provides real-time updates and route suggestions. Quick Pass seamlessly integrates with existing traffic infrastructures and enables future advancements, enhancing public safety and setting a new standard for emergency response systems.

The increasing use of the Internet of Things (IoT), which has resulted in an exponential growth in network traffic, has serious implications on energy consumption and network performance. To reduce power consumption in cloud data centers, a server vacation-based energy-efficient traffic management solution is recommended. The primary idea is that using software-defined network (SDN) technologies, cloud system virtual machines (VMs) can take vacations. The goal of the energy-saving optimization task is to reduce the number of virtual machines (VMs) in use while maintaining service quality standards. This research study focuses on impatient client behaviour, several vacations, limited buffer and queuing system with many servers. Impatient customers may be kept in the cloud system by implementing certain customer retention strategies. The steady-state probability for the proposed SDN-assisted cloud system have been determined using recurrences. To determine the efficiency of the proposed system, several performance studies are conducted. © 2023 IEEE.

Water resource management relies heavily on reliable water quality predictions. Predicting water quality metrics in the watershed system, including dissolved oxygen (DO), is the main emphasis of this work. The enhanced long short-term memory (LSTM) model was suggested to improve the model’s performance. Additionally, a hybrid model was employed to calculate the ideal parameter values for the LSTM model, which helped overcome the nonstationarity, unpredictability, and nonlinearity of the data about the water quality parameters. This model recruited the COOT method. The original weekly water quality values at the Vaigai River, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India, were tested using the suggested hybrid model. An independent LSTM, the hybrid optimisation method takes its cues from the cuckoo bird’s reproductive strategy and a novel meta-heuristic optimisation technique dubbed COOT, which is based on the behaviour of a flock of coot birds. If implemented, the suggested hybrid model might serve as an alternate framework for water quality prediction, laying the groundwork for basin-wide efforts to manage water quality and control pollutants. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

The increased adoption of Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) technologies has resulted in the widespread use ofBody Area Networks (BANs) in medical and non-medical domains. However, the performance of IEEE 802.15.4-based BANs is impacted by challenges related to heterogeneous data traffic requirements among nodes, includingcontention during finite backoff periods, association delays, and traffic channel access through clear channelassessment (CCA) algorithms. These challenges lead to increased packet collisions, queuing delays, retransmissions,and the neglect of critical traffic, thereby hindering performance indicators such as throughput, packet deliveryratio, packet drop rate, and packet delay. Therefore, we propose Dynamic Next Backoff Period and Clear ChannelAssessment (DNBP-CCA) schemes to address these issues. The DNBP-CCA schemes leverage a combination ofthe Dynamic Next Backoff Period (DNBP) scheme and the Dynamic Next Clear Channel Assessment (DNCCA)scheme. The DNBP scheme employs a fuzzy Takagi, Sugeno, and Kang (TSK) model’s inference system toquantitatively analyze backoff exponent, channel clearance, collision ratio, and data rate as input parameters. Onthe other hand, the DNCCA scheme dynamically adapts the CCA process based on requested data transmission tothe coordinator, considering input parameters such as buffer status ratio and acknowledgement ratio. As a result,simulations demonstrate that our proposed schemes are better than some existing representative approaches andenhance data transmission, reduce node collisions, improve average throughput, and packet delivery ratio, anddecrease average packet drop rate and packet delay.

Classification of fish is a complex task in the current situation exhibited by the great diversity of available species, even though it is used in agricultural and commercial sectors. In this work, the data is classified with the Supervised Machine Learning algorithms such as K-Nearest Neighbour, Naïve Bayes, and Decision Tree, observing the results before and after applying dimensionality reduction techniques PCA, LDA, and Truncate SVD. One of the well-known dimensionality reduction techniques Linear Discriminant Analysis LDA achieves the highest accuracy for K-NN, Naïve Bayes 93.7%, and Decision Tree 96.8%. © 2023 IEEE.

Exploring and explaining the effective connectivity (EC) between brain regions can help us understand the mechanisms behind neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, thus helping us to diagnose patients better. Causal discovery techniques have been widely used in this domain recently, but diverse methods may produce conflicting outcomes because of the differences in underlying principles and search methods. To solve this problem, we integrate the causal relationships generated by different algorithms to obtain high-confidence inferences, resulting in a more reliable weighted ensemble causal discovery (WECD) method with higher accuracy. First of all, WECD defines a distribution metric function to measure the weights of different individual methods. Then, WECD adaptively chooses the critical threshold to obtain the confident edges set based on the generated directed edge confident metric curve. Finally, the directed acyclic graph condition is used to refine the confident edges set and acquire the final causal graph. We validate the effectiveness of WECD with both the simulated dataset and real functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) dataset collected on AD patients, MCI patients and healthy controls. By comparing with other existing methods, experimental results demonstrate the potential of WECD as an effective tool for estimating brain EC. © 2023 IEEE.
