Near-perfect replication on amorphous alloys through active force modulation based on machine learning/neural network parameter prediction

We propose an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) enabled millimeter wave (MMW) deviceto-device (D2D) communication in the future B5G/6G scenario to improve throughput. This scheme not only maintains the high transmission rate and low transmitting power of MMW D2D communication, but it also greatly reduces the blocking probability in the presence of assisting IRS. In this paper, we build the system model of IRS-enabled MMW D2D communication and convert it into an IRS activation and selection (IAS) problem which is to find the maximize effective transmission rate through the IRS distribution, then prove that the IAS problem is an NP-hard problem. In addition, we propose an approximation solution named after IAS-A to solve IAS problem efficiently. The experimental results show that the IRS-enabled D2D MMW communication outperforms other cases in terms of throughput and blocking probability, demonstrating the superiority of IAS-A algorithm. The experiment results show that our proposed IAS-A algorithm is 16.59% and 76.17% higher than the shortest distance and random strategies with respect to the total throughput. © 2022 IEEE.

Although conventional false data injection attacks can circumvent the detection of bad data detection (BDD) in sustainable power grid cyber physical systems, they are easily detected by well-trained deep learning-based detectors. Still, state estimation models with deep leaning-based detectors are not secure due to the vulnerabilities and fragility of deep learning models. Using the related laws of conventional false data injection attacks and adversarial sample attacks, this paper proposes the targEted adVersarial fAlse Data injEction (EVADE) strategy to explore targeted adversarial false data injection attacks for state estimation in Smart Grid. The proposed EVADE attack strategy selects key state variables based on adversarial saliency maps to improve the attack efficiency and perturbs as few state variables as possible to reduce the attack cost. In this way, the EVADE attack strategy can bypass the detection of BDD and neural attack detection (NAD) methods (that is, maintaining deep stealthy) with a high success rate and achieve the attack target simultaneously. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, posing serious and pressing concerns for sustainable cyber physical power system security. © 2016 IEEE.

In this paper we extend our previous research on coherent observer-based pole placement approach to study the synthesis of robust decoherence-free (DF) modes for linear quantum passive systems, which is aimed at preservation of quantum information. In particular, DF modes can be generated by placing the poles on the imaginary axis via a coherent feedback design scheme, and these modes can further be simultaneously made robust against perturbations to the system parameters by minimizing the condition number associated with imaginary poles. We develop explicit algebraic conditions for the existence of such a coherent quantum controller, with the corresponding deign procedure provided. Examples are given to illustrate the process of tuning the DF modes towards perfect robustness via the proposed pole placement technique. © 2024 IEEE.

The Variational Inference Gaussian Mixture Model (VI-GMM) has been widely employed in multimode process modeling due to its inherent ability to automatically ascertain the optimal number of mixture components. Despite its advantages, the VI-GMM faces a significant computational challenge when dealing with large datasets, as it processes all data samples in each parameter update iteration. To address this issue, this paper introduces a novel approach: the Stochastic Variational Inference Gaussian Mixture Model (SVI-GMM). By leveraging the SVI algorithm to maximize the Evidence Lower Bound (ELBO), the scalability of the traditional VI-GMM is significantly enhanced, making it suitable for handling large- scale datasets. Furthermore, this study extends the application of SVI-GMM to its regression variant, SVI-GMR, for the forecasting of quality-related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The efficacy of the proposed methodology is demonstrated through a numerical example and a case study involving real-world industrial quality prediction modeling with extensive process data. These examples underscore the effectiveness and robustness of the SVI-GMM and SVI-GMR algorithms in providing accurate and scalable solutions for quality-related KPI predictions in big data environments. © 2024 IEEE.

Tuning the primary selective nanochannels of MOF thin-film nanocomposite nanofiltration membranes for efficient removal of hydrophobic endocrine disrupting compounds

Metal organic framework(MOF)incorporated thin-film nanocomposite(TFN)membranes have the potential to enhance the removal of endocrine disrupting compounds(EDCs).In MOF-TFN membranes,water transport nanochannels include(i)pores of polyamide layer,(ii)pores in MOFs and(iii)channels around MOFs(polyamide-MOF interface).However,information on how to tune the nanochannels to enhance EDCs rejection is scarce,impeding the refinement of TFN membranes toward efficient removal of *** this study,by changing the polyamide properties,the water transport nanochannels could be confined primarily in pores of MOFs when the polyamide layer became ***,the improved rejection of EDCs was dependent on the water transport channels of the TFN *** low monomer concentration(i.e.,loose polyamide structure),the hydrophilic nanochannels of MIL-101(Cr)in the polyamide layer could not dominate the membrane separation performance,and hence the extent of improvement in EDCs rejection was relatively *** contrast,at high monomer concentration(i.e.,dense polyamide structure),the hydrophilic nanochannels of MIL-101(Cr)were responsible for the selective removal of hydrophobic EDCs,demonstrating that the manipulation of water transport nanochannels in the TFN membrane could successfully overcome the permeability and EDCs rejection *** results highlight the potential of tuning primary selective nanochannels of MOF-TFN membranes for the efficient removal of EDCs.

Biochar, a soil conditioner containing significant amounts of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), has gained widespread popularity in agricultural practices due to its advantages in improving soil fertility and carbon sequestration. While biochar may increase soil black carbon (BC) and PAH contents, the quantitative accumulation of BC and PAHs in different soil environments under varying biochar addition dosages remains poorly understood. Here, we investigated the content and composition of black carbon (evaluated using benzene polycarboxylic acids, BPCAs) and PAHs in soils treated with different biochar addition dosages from two long-term experimental farmlands in Ningxia (5-year) and Shandong (7- and 11-year), China. Results showed that increasing cumulative biochar dosage caused elevated contents of black carbon and PAHs, accompanied by decreases in their retention efficiencies. Contrasting retention was observed between sites, with the Shandong site characterized by higher retention efficiencies of BPCAs and lower retention efficiencies of PAHs, possibly owing to its higher temperature, more sandy soil texture, less irrigation, and lower sunlight intensity. Despite both black carbon and PAHs originating from biochar and sharing similar condensed aromatic structures, there was no significant correlation between the contents of black carbon and PAHs, indicating distinct behaviors and fates of these compounds. These findings emphasize the importance of optimizing biochar addition dosages and considering site-specific environmental factors for effective soil black carbon sequestration through biochar application. With China’s booming economy, agricultural modernization has become an unstoppable trend. In order to solve the problem of real-time detection of multiple kinds of fruits, a real-time detection system of multiple kinds of fruits based on Raspberry Pi was developed. We trained the YOLOv5 network on a homemade multi-species fruit dataset. In the end, it not only realized the recognition of various types of fruits but also was able to output their location coordinates in the image. At the same time, we used the edge computing device Intel Neural Compute Stick 2 to realize the feed-forward inference operation on the neural network, so that the problem of low frame rate, when the Raspberry Pi performs real-time detection on a variety of fruits, is solved. In the real scenario, the real-time fruit detection model based on YOLOv5s network can effectively achieve the target detection of multiple types of fruits with 99.86% detection mAP, 99.93% testing accuracy and 10.37 FPS average real-time fruit detection frame rate. The system has many advantages, such as high accuracy, good robustness, fast calculation speed, etc. In addition, the embedded system can be further extended to realize the development of many intelligent products related to fruit recognition, such as intelligent fruit-sacking robots. Therefore, it can be concluded that the real-time detection system of multi-species fruits based on Raspberry Pi is helpful to improve the efficiency of farming, and the product can contribute to the modernization of agriculture in China. © 2023 SPIE.

Ventricular fibrillation, atrial fibrillation, and other malignant arrhythmias are the main causes of human death. Defibrillator is an effective device to terminate abnormal heart rhythms and to deliver an electric shock to control heart activity. However, most existing defibrillation devices can only treat ventricular fibrillation and cannot handle abnormal rhythms such as atrial fibrillation that require synchronized defibrillation. A few devices that can perform synchronous defibrillation also have some obvious drawbacks, including significant synchronization time delay and limitations in reliability and anti-interference. In this study, we designed a novel synchronous defibrillator with high anti-interference and short delay for treating abnormal heart rhythms that require synchronous defibrillation. This defibrillator could collect electrocardiogram signals in real-time, recognize the R-waves, and release defibrillation energy at appropriate time. The discharge of this device occurred in the absolute refractory period of the heart, rather than during the ventricular vulnerable period near the peak of the T wave. The experimental results showed that this new synchronous defibrillator accurately recognized the R waves even in severe baseline drift and high-frequency interference situations. The synchronous defibrillator only took 1ms to recognize the R-wave and complete the discharge, significantly lower than the other commercialized defibrillators. This innovative defibrillator can be used in multiple scenarios of emergency and may promote the first-aid capacity for cardiovascular disorders. © 2023 IEEE.

The recycling of CO_(2)through electrochemical processes offers a promising solution for alleviating the greenhouse effect;however,the activation of CO_(2)and desorption of^(*)CO in electrocatalytic CO_(2)reduction(ECR)frequently encounter high energy barriers and competitive hydrogen evolution reactions(HERs),which are urgent problems that need to be *** this study,a catalyst(P100-Fe-N/C)with homogeneous P-tuned FeN_(2)binuclear sites(N_(2)PFe-FePN_(2))was successfully synthesised,demonstrating satisfactory performance in the ECR to CO.P100-Fe-N/C attains a peak FECOof 98.01%and a normalized TOF of 664.7 h-1at-0.7 VRHE,surpassing the performance of the Fe binuclear catalyst without P and singleatoms *** the MEA cell,a FECOexceeding 90%can still be *** functional theory analysis indicates that the asymmetric coordination configuration induced by the incorporation of P facilitates a reduction in the system's *** modulation of P results in the d-band centre of the catalyst being positioned closer to the Fermi level,which facilitates the interaction of the catalyst with CO_(2),allowing more electrons to be injected into the CO_(2)molecule at the Fe binuclear sites and inhibiting the *** P-tuned FeN_(2)binuclear sites effectively lower the^(*)CO desorption barrier.
