Automated diagnosis has always been a challenging task to AI. When model-based diagnosis is adopted, a model of the system is required in order to generate a set of diagnoses based on a collection of observations, where a diagnosis is a set of faulty components or, more generally, a set of faults ascribed to components. An active system (AS) is an asynchronous, distributed discrete-event system, whose model consists of a topology (how components are connected to one another), and a communicating automaton for each component (the mode in which a component reacts to events). A problem afflicting all model-based approaches to diagnosis is a possibly large number of diagnoses explaining the observations, which may jeopardize the task of a diagnostician in charge of monitoring the system, owing to the cognitive overload raised by an overwhelming number of faulty scenarios to examine. This is exacerbated in critical application domains, where, under uncertain conditions, an artificial agent is supposed to perform recovery actions in real-time, even in the order of milliseconds, to possibly restore the system. To make diagnosis of ASs viable in critical, real-time application domains, a Smart Diagnosis Engine is presented, which is grounded on two heuristics: (1) if a diagnosis δ is a superset of a diagnosis δ ' , then δ is ignored (minimality); (2) if the cardinality (number of faults) of a diagnosis δ is lower than the cardinality of a diagnosis δ ' , then δ is generated before δ ' (sorting). Consequently, the diagnosis output consists in a sequence of minimal diagnoses that are generated in ascending order by cardinality. As indicated by the experimental results, the overall improvement is twofold: most likely diagnoses are generated upfront, thereby supporting real-time recovery actions; also, the abductive search in the behavior space of the AS is reduced considerably, owing to the pruning of the trajectories that will not generate minimal diagnoses, thereby resulting

Adaptive Prescribed-Time Neural control of Nonlinear Systems via Dynamic Surface Technique

The adaptive practical prescribed-time (PPT) neural control is studied for multiinput multioutput (MIMO) nonlinear systems with unknown nonlinear functions and unknown input gain matrices. Unlike existing PPT design schemes based on backstepping, this study proposes a novel PPT control framework using the dynamic surface control (DSC) approach. First, a novel nonlinear filter (NLF) with an adaptive parameter estimator and a piecewise function is constructed to effectively compensate for filter errors and facilitate prescribed-time convergence. Based on this, a unified DSC-based adaptive PPT control algorithm, augmented with a neural networks (NNs) approximator, is developed, where NNs are used to approximate unknown nonlinear system functions. This algorithm not only addresses the inherent computational complexity explosion associated with traditional backstepping methods but also reduces the constraints on filter design parameters compared to the DSC algorithm that relies on linear filters. The simulation showcases the effectiveness and superiority of the devised scheme by employing a two-degree-of-freedom robot manipulator. © 2024 IEEE.

Addressing the challenges in energy consumption and lifespan of fuel cell hybrid emergency power system, this paper proposes an energy management strategy based on deep reinforcement learning. The strategy aims to holistically balance objectives such as hydrogen consumption of the fuel cell, its lifespan, the stability of the lithium battery's state of charge (SOC), and its degradation. Firstly, we present the system architecture of the fuel cell hybrid emergency power system and establish models for hydrogen consumption and degradation of the fuel cell, as well as the SOC variations and degradation of the lithium battery, upon which a multi-objective reward function is constructed. Subsequently, we adopt the distributional soft actor-critic (DSAC) deep reinforcement learning algorithm, combined with a maximum entropy-based objective function to balance the exploration-exploitation trade-off and incorporated with a distributed value function estimation to alleviate the overestimation of Q-values. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed strategy can effectively reduce the overall value loss, extend the system's lifespan, and showcase robust adaptability. © 2024 IEEE.

Intelligent fault diagnosis has been widely used in the industry and plays a crucial role in the health management of machinery. In recent years, unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) has been applied to fault diagnosis, showing excellent performance under variable working conditions. However, most existing UDA-based methods do not consider the temporal relations in the fault signal, resulting in sub-optimal performance. In this paper, we proposed a domain adversarial interaction network (DAIN) to solve this problem. By downsampling sub-sequences of fault signals and interacting with their features, DAIN can obtain feature representations containing the temporal relations. In addition, domain adversarial learning and maximum mean discrepancy (MMD) are applied to DAIN to align the domain discrepancy and distribution discrepancy of source and target domains. We conducted extensive experiments on the public Paderborn University (PU) dataset, and the results demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve higher cross-domain fault diagnosis accuracy than the existing methods. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In the process of ethylene production, the operating data of ethylene cracking furnace not only has the problems of time variability, non-gauss, strong noise, and outlier influence but also the collected data is incomplete, presenting the problem of scarce data with labels and abundant data without labels. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes a soft measurement model based on a semi-supervised Bayesian T-distribution mixture for the coking diagnosis of ethylene cracking furnaces. The model adopts a semi-supervised structure to solve the problem of the small number of data labels, adopts a T-distribution model to ensure the robustness of the model to strong noise and outliers under the Bayesian framework, and solves the solid variation of process data through the mixed model—complexity, non-Gaussian, and nonlinear problems. Finally, the experiment was carried out on the coking data of an ethylene cracking furnace in a petrochemical plant to verify the feasibility and prediction accuracy of the model under the condition of limited label data, and also to verify the robustness of the model to outliers. © 2024 SPIE.

This paper proposes an intelligent discrepancy analysis method based on natural language processing to address the issue of standard discrepancy in the electricity industry. The objective of this method is to identify discrepancies between standards and pinpoint their distinguishing factors, in order to achieve better standardization, regulation, and consistency. This will enhance the safety and reliability of electricity equipment and systems, while reducing production, operation, and management costs. The paper first builds an electricity standard discrepancy dataset using the open-world assumption theory. Then, it uses a noisy method to fine-tune the SBERT model for identifying discrepancies in electricity standard clauses. Finally, by optimizing the SimCSE model with relaxed optimal transport distance, the interpretability of the model is improved and a text similarity matrix is obtained, enabling the visualization of discrepancies in clause text. The precision and recall rates of standard discrepancy identification achieved by this method are 81.54% and 82.78%, respectively. This method not only helps to improve the sustainable development of the electricity industry, but also provides more data support and decision-making references for electricity enterprises to better address issues related to standard management and implementation. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. Low-light ambient condition is an important external factor of image degradation. In order to improve the different genetic types of low-light degradation image enhancement effect, in this paper we combine the artificial intelligence method and image processing algorithm, using a degradation reason based image classifier to classify images into two types: dark image and underwater image. Different enhancement algorithms are designed for the two types of lowlight images with different causes. Dark images are enhanced by brightness adjustment based on Retinex model, while underwater images are enhanced by adaptive contrast enhancement and color correction to eliminate the influence of underwater factors on the imaging effect. The experiment result show that the proposed algorithm can effectively correct the color and adjust the brightness of low-light images and underwater images, and meet the requirements of image enhancement applications. © 2022 IEEE.
