VSQ: Enabling efficient and verifiable similarity queries in blockchain databases

Blockchain serves as the basis for secure and distributed applications like decentralized finance (DeFi). Light nodes can help reduce the storage and computation burden of full nodes in the blockchain by storing only block headers instead of full blocks. The resource constraint user runs a light node and sends the query request to the full node to find the answer. However, this approach raises security concerns, as query results from the full node may be altered or incomplete. In this paper, we explore verifiable similarity queries, commonly used in text mining, within the context of blockchain networks. The main challenge lies in designing an authenticated data structure (ADS) that enables efficient query processing and verification of query result soundness and completeness. Previous research on blockchain verifiable queries has focused on range queries, keyword queries, and existence queries, which are not applicable to verifiable similarity queries. Our proposed solutions include a baseline approach that uses the Merkle hash tree as the foundational ADS and adds leaf node pointers for query realization. Additionally, we introduce an enhanced solution Baseline+, which improves query efficiency and reduces storage overhead by leveraging minhash. Finally, we present a verifiable similarity query scheme (VSQ) based on the Merkle bucket tree, integrating minhash and locality-sensitive hashing to enhance query and verification efficiency. We conducted extensive experimental evaluation. The experimental results show that the query time and the verification object size of VSQ are reduced by two orders of magnitude compared to the Baseline approach. © 2025

In order to alleviate urban congestion, improve vehicle mobility, and improve logistics delivery efficiency, this paper establishes a practical multi-objective and multi constraint logistics delivery mathematical model based on graphs, and proposes a solution algorithm framework that combines decomposition strategy and deep reinforcement learning (DRL). Firstly, taking into account the actual multiple constraints such as customer distribution, vehicle load constraints, and time windows in urban logistics distribution regions, a multi constraint and multi-objective urban logistics distribution mathematical model was established with the goal of minimizing the total length, cost, and maximum makespan of urban logistics distribution paths. Secondly, based on the decomposition strategy, a DRL framework for optimizing urban logistics delivery paths based on Graph Capsule Network (G-Caps Net) was designed. This framework takes the node information of VRP as input in the form of a 2D graph, modifies the graph attention capsule network by considering multi-layer features, edge information, and residual connections between layers in the graph structure, and replaces probability calculation with the module length of the capsule vector as output. Then, the baseline REINFORCE algorithm with rollout is used for network training, and a 2-opt local search strategy and sampling search strategy are used to improve the quality of the solution. Finally, the performance of the proposed method was evaluated on standard examples of problems of different scales. The experimental results showed that the constructed model and solution framework can improve logistics delivery efficiency. This method achieved the best comprehensive performance, surpassing the most advanced distress methods, and has great potential in practical engineering. © 2024 – IOS Press. All rights reserved.

Federated Learning (FL) has gained considerable attention for collaborative training in big data analysis, particularly in terms of privacy and communication constraints. Despite its promising advantages, FL faces the challenge of dealing with imbalanced label distribution on edge devices, which complicates the learning task. In literature, numerous studies have attempted to tackle this issue by introducing additional hyperparameters, which can complicate and prolong the process of model training and tuning. This complexity may potentially lead to overfitting and limited performance on new datasets. In this paper, we present a new Federated Learning framework called FedVC, which introduces virtual clients to minimize hyperparameter reliance. FedVC aims to bridge the gap between balanced and imbalanced label distribution. Compared with traditional federated learning frameworks, the proposed FedVC model designs a dynamically balanced dataset by utilizing virtual clients, which is proposed for the first time in this work. These virtual clients determine which part of the data should be used in one single training round and manage backpropagation timing for local real clients. The balanced dataset promotes greater stability in local models, thereby enhancing the overall stability of the training process. The experimental results show that FedVC outperforms classical FedAvg and the compared baseline methods for the data with imbalanced label distribution. Especially, FedVC exhibits more stable and accurate results than alternative approaches in highly heterogeneous settings. This paper investigates the problems of invariant set analysis and control synthesis for multi-equilibrium switched systems under control constraints. A control strategy based on the invariant set method is proposed, accompanied by criteria formulated as linear matrix inequalities, ensuring that the state remains within the mode-dependent invariant sets. Furthermore, considering the control constraints in practical scenarios, a multi-equilibrium switched controller with control constraints (MESCC controller) is designed. Compared to existing works, the proposed method incorporates mode-dependent dwell time conditions and mode-dependent invariant sets, thereby offering enhanced design flexibility. An example of an aero-engine control system is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and potential of the theoretical results.

Bayes and Biased Estimators Without Hyper-parameter Estimation: Comparable Performance to the Empirical-Bayes-Based Regularized Estimator

Regularized system identification has become a significant complement to more classical system identification. It has been numerically shown that kernel-based regularized estimators often perform better than the maximum likelihood estimator in terms of minimizing mean squared error (MSE). However, regularized estimators often require hyper-parameter estimation. This paper focuses on ridge regression and the regularized estimator by employing the empirical Bayes hyperparameter estimator. We utilize the excess MSE to quantify the MSE difference between the empirical-Bayes-based regularized estimator and the maximum likelihood estimator for large sample sizes. We then exploit the excess MSE expressions to develop both a family of generalized Bayes estimators and a family of closed-form biased estimators. They have the same excess MSE as the empirical-Bayes-based regularized estimator but eliminate the need for hyper-parameter estimation. Moreover, we conduct numerical simulations to show that the performance of these new estimators is comparable to the empirical-Bayes-based regularized estimator, while computationally, they are more efficient. In this paper, Fault Tolerant control (FTC) for fractional-order systems (FOS) has not received as much attention in the literature as it has for standard integer-order systems. This work aims to bridge that gap. We propose a practical approach to fault estimation and fault-tolerant control (FTC) specifically designed for linear (FOS) with sensor failures. Our method leverages fractional exponential stability within the Lyapunov framework and employs the Conformable formulation of fractional derivatives. Notably, the primary contribution of this paper is the first application of the Conformable fractional derivative (CFD) in the context of (FTC). To accurately estimate states and faults, the proposed approach utilizes an observer coupled with a customized adaptation law. To validate our theoretical contributions, we present a detailed simulation of a numerical case study.

Unmanned agents represent a significant advancement in unmanned control and constitute an important element in the future agent warfare. Their autonomous decision-making capabilities are integral to accomplishing tasks independently. To address challenges inherent in multiparty game scenarios that traditional method struggle with and enhance the applicability and accuracy of game decision-making, this article proposes a novel multiagent confrontation method for unmanned vessels, tailored to a three-party dynamic multistrategy evolutionary game in incomplete information scenarios. The approach introduces a new incentive mechanism designed to enhance both individual and collective profits of agents. Using evolutionary game theory, a three-party model is developed, incorporating interactions among player, enemy, and neutral agents. The model tracks the evolution of strategies to identify stable equilibria across various perceptual conditions. Simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed method in selecting optimal strategies for unmanned vessels in complex battlefield scenarios, demonstrating its potential for improving autonomous decision-making in multiparty confrontations. © 2014 IEEE.

This topic proposed a Sliding Mode control (SMC) strategy utilizing the BAT Algorithm (BAT-SMC) for regulating concentration and temperature in a Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) system. The SMC is designed to maintain concentration (CA) and temperature (T) within desired setpoints by adapting sliding surfaces in the presence of disturbances and system uncertainties. The BAT Algorithm enhances the SMC by optimizing control parameters, reducing chattering effects, and improving tracking accuracy. Simulations validate the efficacy of BAT-SMC, showing improved dynamic performance for both concentration and temperature control compared to other controllers.

The Generated-bbox Guided Interactive Image Segmentation With Vision Transformers

Existing click-based interactive image segmentation methods typically initiate object extraction with the first click and iteratively refine the coarse segmentation through subsequent interactions. Unlike box-based methods, click-based approaches mitigate ambiguity when multiple targets are present within a single bounding box, but suffer from a lack of precise location and outline information. Inspired by instance segmentation, the authors propose a Generated-bbox Guided method that provides location and outline information using an automatically generated bounding box, rather than a manually labelled one, minimising the need for extensive user interaction. Building on the success of vision transformers, the authors adopt them as the network architecture to enhance model's performance. A click-based interactive image segmentation network named the Generated-bbox Guided Coarse-to-Fine Network (GCFN) was proposed. GCFN is a two-stage cascade network comprising two sub-networks: Coarsenet and Finenet. A transformer-based Box Detector was introduced to generate an initial bounding box from a inside click, that can provide location and outline information. Additionally, two feature enhancement modules guided by foreground and background information: the Foreground-Background Feature Enhancement Module (FFEM) and the Pixel Enhancement Module (PEM) were designed. The authors evaluate the GCFN method on five popular benchmark datasets and demonstrate the generalisation capability on three medical image datasets. © 2025 The Author(s). Distributed model predictive control without terminal cost under inexact distributed optimization

This paper presents a novel distributed model predictive control (MPC) formulation without terminal cost and a corresponding distributed synthesis approach for distributed linear discrete-time systems with coupled constraints. The proposed control scheme introduces an explicit stability condition as an additional constraint based on relaxed dynamic programming. As a result, contrary to other related approaches, system stability with the developed controller does not rely on designing a terminal cost. A distributed synthesis approach is then introduced to handle the stability constraint locally within each local agent. To solve the underlying optimization problem for distributed MPC, a violation-free distributed optimization approach is developed, using constraint tightening to ensure feasibility throughout iterations. A numerical example demonstrates that the proposed distributed MPC approach ensures closed-loop stability for each feasible control sequence, with each agent computing its control input in parallel. © 2025, CC BY.
