We present three classes of distributed formation controllers for achieving and maintaining the 2D/3D formation shape of manipulator end-effectors to cope with different scenarios due to availability of modeling parameters. We firstly present a distributed formation controller for manipulators whose system parameters are perfectly known. The formation control objective is achieved by assigning virtual springs between end-effectors and by adding damping terms at joints, which provides a clear physical interpretation of the proposed solution. Subsequently, we extend it to the case where manipulator kinematic and system parameters are not exactly known. An extra integrator and an adaptive estimator are introduced for gravitational compensation and stabilization, respectively. Simulation results with planar manipulators and with seven degree-of-freedom humanoid manipulator arms are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The stress-electric coupling based on receptor functionalization provides a new paradigm for the development of biosensor. However, the gravity factor of sensitive element usually shows difficult to be avoided due to its suppression to biosensor sensitivity. Herein, a magnetic-sensitization biosensing system with multi-physical field coupling of stress, magnetism and electricity was proposed to highly detect biomolecules. The gravitational interference of sensitive membrane was conquered by doping the TbDyFe with magnetostrictive effect into polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and applying magnetic field, showing great contributions to magnetic sensitization. The magnetic sensitization of the biosensor was proved by the collaboration of experiment and simulation. The detections of urine protein and urine sugar associated with kidney disease were realized with limits of detection (LOD) of 0.21 ng/mL and 0.45 nM by using the magnetic-sensitization biosensor. The prepared biosensor exhibited the high specificity, selectivity, stability and repeatability. Especially, the HSA and glucose in real samples can be accurately detect, showing good practicability of the prepared biosensor. This study provides a way to improve the sensitivity of the mechanical biosensor. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In the context of intensifying global market competition and the accelerated advancement of industrial intelligence powered by the Industrial Internet of Things, manufacturing enterprises face pressing challenges in achieving sustainable development through quality and efficiency enhancement. Effective key performance indicators (KPIs) related fault diagnosis plays a crucial role in ensuring product quality stability and efficient production within modern manufacturing industries. However, manufacturing industries are characterized by numerous production sub-processes, hierarchical cooperation and interaction, and complex spatio-temporal features, making the implementation of comprehensive KPI-related fault diagnosis methods challenging. To overcome these challenges and fully leverage the hierarchical and multi-scale nature of manufacturing systems, an innovative hierarchical KPI-related fault diagnosis framework based on cloud–edge collaboration is proposed in this paper. First, a hierarchical information enhancement method utilizing dual-scale slow feature analysis and minimal gated units is developed to handle the multi-scale nature of system levels. Second, graph attention networks are combined with minimal gated units to capture the spatio-temporal dynamics across all levels, and KPI constraints are incorporated to fully extract the KPI-related spatio-temporal features. In addition, bottom-up propagation and top-down updation strategies are designed to facilitate information interaction between levels. Building on this, a cloud–edge collaborative architecture is developed, with specific tasks assigned each side. Finally, the framework is applied to a collaborative prototype system for cloud–edge- device in the hot rolling process, and its effectiveness and applicability are thoroughly evaluated. © 2025

Distributed disturbance-observer-based vibration control for a flexible-link manipulator with output constraints

The issue of output constraints is studied for a flexible-link manipulator in the presence of unknown spatially distributed disturbances. The manipulator can be taken as an Euler-Bernoulli beam and its dynamic is expressed by partial differential equations. On account of the uncertainty of disturbances, we present a disturbance observer to estimate infinite dimensional disturbances on the beam. The observer is proven exponentially stable. Considering the problem of output constraints in the practical engineering, we propose a novel distributed vibration controller based on the disturbance observer to fulfill the position regulation of the joint angle and suppress elastic deflections on the flexible link, while confining the regulating errors of output in a suitable scope that we can assign. The closed-loop system is demonstrated exponentially stable based on an integral-barrier Lyapunov function. Simulations validate the effectiveness of the design scheme.

This paper proposes a method to determine best options for transmission system expansion for UHVAC systems, considering a) voltage security regarding lighting overvoltage, b) operational flexibility using contingency analysis, and c) economics efficiency using machine learning. Inspired by standard contingency analysis, the method provides an integrated ranking approach to synthetize optimal solutions for expansion. The method is integrated using commercial power system software, and it is demonstrated on China's 1000kV UHVAC Power Grid. The validity of the method is verified by the actual decisions included in China's 1000kV UHVAC power grid expansion plan.

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) has received increasing attention due to its capability of extending cell coverage by reflecting signals toward receivers. This paper considers a RIS-assisted high-speed train (HST) communication system to improve the coverage probability. We derive the closed-form expression of coverage probability. Moreover, we analyze impacts of some key system parameters, including transmission power, signal-to-noise ratio threshold, and horizontal distance between base station and RIS. Simulation results verify the efficiency of RIS-assisted HST communications in terms of coverage probability. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

An electricity market encompasses multiple entities, which undertake the purposes of electricity generation, distribution, as well as regulation in the form of the market authority. There are myriad uncertainties that present themselves in the electricity market, due to factors such as load variability or the inclusion of intermittent sources of generation, which can affect decision-making processes, whether on the part of the market authority or generation companies. These uncertainty factors thus have to be taken into account for the important determination of the electricity pricing and load levels for each time period. This project therefore undertakes the study of the uncertainty-pricing correlation in the electricity market using the chosen approach of stochastic modeling on a MATLAB platform for a better understanding of the effects of uncertainties in the electricity market on electricity pricing. © 2019 IEEE.

With the rapid proliferation of smart devices in wireless networks, more powerful technologies are expected to fulfill the network requirements of high throughput, massive connectivity, and diversify quality of service. To this end, rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) is proposed as a promising solution to improve spectral efficiency and provide better fairness for the next-generation mobile networks. In this paper, the outage performance of uplink RSMA transmission with randomly deployed users is investigated, taking both user scheduling schemes and power allocation strategies into consideration. Specifically, the greedy user scheduling (GUS) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) based user scheduling (CUS) schemes are considered, which could maximize the rate performance and guarantee scheduling fairness, respectively. Meanwhile, we re-investigate cognitive power allocation (CPA) strategy, and propose a new rate fairness-oriented power allocation (FPA) strategy to enhance the scheduled users' rate fairness. By employing order statistics and stochastic geometry, an analytical expression of the outage probability for each scheduling scheme combining power allocation is derived to characterize the performance. To get more insights, the achieved diversity order of each scheme is also derived. Theoretical results demonstrate that both GUS and CUS schemes applying CPA or FPA strategy can achieve full diversity orders, and the application of CPA strategy in RSMA can effectively eliminate the secondary user's diversity order constraint from the primary user. Simulation results corroborate the accuracy of the analytical expressions, and show that the proposed FPA strategy can achieve excellent rate fairness performance in high signal-to-noise ratio region. In ophthalmology, symptomatic exudate-associated derangement (SEAD) lesions play an important role in the timely intervention and treatment of maculopathy. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging, due to its ability to visualize early symptoms linked with chronic retinal conditions, is mainly used for screening maculopathy and related SEAD lesions. However, in OCT scans, the inter- and intra-observer variability of manual estimation of SEAD lesions is high, which may lead to serious inconsistencies in the treatment of macular diseases. In this context, an automated SEAD segmentation algorithm can be regarded as a feasible approach. This paper proposes a novel deep encoder-decoder architecture called SEADNet, that performs the joint segmentation and extraction of three SEAD lesions including intraretinal fluid (IRF), subretinal fluid (SRF), and pigment epithelial detachment (PED). SEADNet comprises of three main modules, namely feature encoder, feature decoder and a newly introduced extractor module that further extracts the multi-scale enriched features of candidate SEAD lesions. The proposed framework is trained using 7064 OCT scans and tested over 4270 OCT scans acquired from three different OCT imaging devices. The simulation results show that the segmentation performance of SEADNet is better than the existing algorithms, with mean dice scores of 0.909, 0.913 and 0.918 for IRF, SRF and PED, respectively.

This paper addresses the problem of end-effector formation control for manipulators that are subjected to external disturbances: input disturbance torques and disturbance forces at each end-effector. The disturbances are assumed to be non-vanishing and are superposition of finite number of sinusoidal and step signals. The formation control objective is achieved by assigning virtual springs between end-effectors, by adding damping terms at joints, and by incorporating internal model-based dynamic compensators to counteract the effect of the disturbances;all of which presents a clear physical interpretation of the proposed approach.
