Noninvertibility and non-Markovianity of quantum dynamical maps

We identify two broad types of noninvertibilities in quantum dynamical maps, one necessarily associated with CP indivisibility and one not so. We study the production of (non-)Markovian, invertible maps by the process of mixing noninvertible Pauli maps and quantify the fraction of the same. The memory kernel perspective appears to be less transparent on the issue of invertibility than the approaches based on maps or master equations. Here we consider a related and potentially helpful issue: the identification of criteria of parameterized families of maps leading to the existence of a well-defined semigroup limit.

This study demonstrates the utilization of Machine Learning (ML) for network slice prediction, enabling the optimization of resources for diverse network slices. Traditional methods for network slice prediction often lack efficiency and result in inaccuracies. By leveraging ML algorithms such as Naive Bayes and Random Forest, an intelligent framework that automates network slice prediction is developed. This framework enhances network virtualization and management, facilitating resource allocation. The ML algorithms take real-time network conditions and usages, such as packet delay and smart city, as input and output for selecting the most suitable network slice. data analysis is further conducted to reveal the connections between the input parameters and how these parameters influence the selection of the accurate network slice. Network slicing plays a crucial role as it enables the customization of services and facilitates efficient scaling to meet the specific needs of different applications and industries. The accuracy scores of the employed ML algorithms were generally perfect, except for the KNN and SVM classifiers, which achieved an accuracy of 94.30% and 92.16%, respectively, for the prediction of network slices based on incoming network connections and usages. © 2024 IEEE.

Correctness-by-Construction (CbC) is an incremental program construction process to construct functionally correct programs. The programs are constructed stepwise along with a specification that is inherently guaranteed to be satisfied. CbC is complex to use without specialized tool support, since it needs a set of predefined refinement rules of fixed granularity which are additional rules on top of the programming language. Each refinement rule introduces a specific programming statement and developers cannot depart from these rules to construct programs. CbC allows to develop software in a structured and incremental way to ensure correctness, but the limited flexibility is a disadvantage of CbC. In this work, we compare classic CbC with CbC-Block and TraitCbC. Both approaches CbC-Block and TraitCbC, are related to CbC, but they have new language constructs that enable a more flexible software construction approach. We provide for both approaches a programming guideline, which similar to CbC, leads to well-structured programs. CbC-Block extends CbC by adding a refinement rule to insert any block of statements. Therefore, we introduce CbC-Block as an extension of CbC. TraitCbC implements correctness-by-construction on the basis of traits with specified methods. We formally introduce TraitCbC and prove soundness of the construction strategy. All three development approaches are qualitatively compared regarding their programming constructs, tool support, and usability to assess which is best suited for certain tasks and developers. © 2022, CC BY.

The emergence of cloud computing technology has motivated a very high number of users in different organizations to access its services in running and delivering their various operations and services. However, this surge of cloud users has led to the problem of uneven load sharing among the cloud computing infrastructures. As a result, federated cloud infrastructure was initiated to provide more cloud computing resources to accommodate more cloud users' requests and also to provide equal requests mapping with the available cloud resources. Nevertheless, the issue of unequal allocation of requests within the datacenter(s) that makes up the federated cloud environment still persists. This research work presents an intra-datacenter load balancing algorithm in a federated cloud environment named;the intra-balancer adapted throttled algorithm to evenly distribute requests in each datacenter that formulate the federated cloud infrastructures. The simulation of the intra-balancer was carried out in CloudAnalyst, the results of the implementation showed that the intra-balancer outperformed the Round-Robin and ESCE with 98.93ms and 2.26ms for the response and processing time respectively. The results assert that the intra-balancer algorithm provides a better load balancing solution in a federated cloud environment. © 2024 IEEE.

We study the convex combinations of the (d+1)-generalized Pauli dynamical maps in a Hilbert space of dimension d. For certain choices of the decoherence function, the maps are noninvertible, and they remain under convex combinations as well. For the case of dynamical maps characterized by the decoherence function (1−e−ct)/n with the decoherence parameter n and decay factor c, we evaluate the fraction of invertible maps obtained upon mixing, which is found to increase superexponentially with dimension d.

While strong system-bath coupling produces rich and interesting phenomena, applications to quantum thermal engines have been so far pointing mainly at detrimental effects. The delicate trade-off between efficiency loss due to strong coupling and power increase due to faster equilibration, while acknowledged, remains largely unexplored owing to the challenge of assessing precisely the equilibration time. Here, we overcome this obstacle by exploiting exact numerical simulations based on the hierarchical equations of motion (HEOM) formalism. We show that a quantum Otto cycle can perform better at strong (but not ultrastrong) coupling in that the product of the efficiency and output power is maximized in this regime. In particular, we show that strong coupling allows one to obtain engines with larger efficiency than their weakly coupled counterparts, while sharing the same output power. Conversely, one can design strongly coupled engines with larger power than their weakly coupled counterparts, while sharing the same efficiency. Overall, our results provide situations where strong coupling can directly enhance the performance of thermodynamic operations, re-enforcing the importance of studying quantum thermal engines beyond standard configurations. © 2023, CC BY.

Despite the global impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, the question of whether mandated interventions have similar economic and public health effects as spontaneous behavioural change remains unresolved. Addressing this question, and understanding differential effects across socioeconomic groups, requires building quantitative and fine-grained mechanistic models. Here we introduce a data-driven, granular, agent-based model that simulates epidemic and economic outcomes across industries, occupations and income levels. We validate the model by reproducing key outcomes of the first wave of coronavirus disease 2019 in the New York metropolitan area. The key mechanism coupling the epidemic and economic modules is the reduction in consumption due to fear of infection. In counterfactual experiments, we show that a similar trade-off between epidemic and economic outcomes exists both when individuals change their behaviour due to fear of infection and when non-pharmaceutical interventions are imposed. Low-income workers, who perform in-person occupations in customer-facing industries, face the strongest trade-off. © 2023, The Author(s).

The potential role of spin in biological systems is a primary topic in quantum biology. However, much of this research focuses on electron spin. A recent hypothesis suggests that nuclear spin may be better suited to biological processes, being less sensitive to decoherence. The hypothesis details how phosphorus nuclei might be prepared in a spin entangled state, how this entanglement is protected by assembly into calcium phosphate (Posner) molecules, and how this entanglement might modulate calcium ion production and concomitant neural activation. In this paper we investigate the robustness of quantum effects such as coherence and entanglement in Posner molecules. We investigate how these effects are directly dependent on specific parameters such as spin-spin coupling strengths and Posner molecule symmetry. We also investigate how lithium isotope doped Posner molecules differentially modulate quantum resources such as coherence and entanglement and whether this is a viable explanation for lithium's mechanism of action in bipolar disease. Finally we illustrate how entanglement might possibly be preserved through exploitation of the biological environment. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
