In recent times, blockchain has evolved the security of traditional supply chain systems. Different issues of supply chain management like flexibility and reliability can be easily addressed using blockchain. Meat Packing Industry involves the complete process of processing, packaging and supplying the meat and its products throughout the world for human consumption. The animals used for the meat supply chain include pigs, sheep, cattle etc. Due to the enormous increase in the number of meat-eaters worldwide, its packing and timely supply are of utmost importance. The meat packing industry has revolutionized a lot by using the latest supply chain methods based on new technologies like blockchain. These include adulteration, long-term delays leading to spoilage of the product, mixing of other similar products which are lower in price etc. All these issues can be easily handled by using blockchain and IoT for meat supply chain management. Using these technologies, the challenges ranging from timely transportation of good quality meat to the best quality meat delivered to the customer can be easily addressed. In this paper, an effective blockchain and IoT-based model has been proposed which will counter the above challenges and improve the reliability and security factor. © 2024 IEEE.

This work proposes a new approach to convert the data from sign language to spoken language without exposing the data to a gloss layer. Whenever gloss annotations are used which frequently are incomplete and act as an intermediate representation, it is usually found to be a bottleneck in translating sign language videos. In order to avoid this, the authors use a combination of modern machine learning algorithms to arrive at the conclusion. They use Dino-V2 Vision Transformer to implement the function of extracting the spatial features of the input sign language video frames. This model is particularly suitable for learning and visual patterns in general and particularly for capturing fine details of these patterns. Further, a spatio-temporal transformer layer is added to automate the temporal processing of the Sign-Language which helps in the arrangement of the body gestures and limb movements needed at a specific temporal frame. It is then translated into the desired spoken language using a multilingual Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) model. The approach can be said to be a big leap forward in sign language transliteration especially for such situations where few Gloss annotations are available, and making way for better and improved tools for the Deaf and the hard-of-hearing. © 2024 IEEE.

Cyber security is dynamic as defenders often need to adapt their defense postures. The state-ofthe-art is that the adaptation of network defense is done manually(i.e., tedious and error-prone). The ideal solution is to automate adaptive network defense, which is however a difficult problem. As a first step towards automation, we propose investigating how to attain semi-automated adaptive network defense(SAND). We propose an approach extending the architecture of software-defined networking, which is centered on providing defenders with the capability to program the generation and deployment of dynamic defense rules enforced by network defense tools. We present the design and implementation of SAND, as well as the evaluation of the prototype implementation. Experimental results show that SAND can achieve agile and effective dynamic adaptations of defense rules(less than 15 ms on average for each operation), while only incurring a small performance overhead.

Vehicular network technology has made substantial advancements in recent years in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems. Vehicular Cloud Computing (VCC) has emerged as a novel paradigm with a substantial increase in data exchange within Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs). VCC integrates cloud computing, vehicular networking, and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. It enables Infrastructure-to-Vehicle (I2V), Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), and Vehicle-to-Device (V2D) communication. VCC optimizes vehicle, cloud infrastructure, and IoT resources while addressing significant communication security and vehicle-user privacy challenges. To address these issues, we developed an RFID-based authentication protocol for VCC based on a Henon map using a hash function. In addition, we also incorporated a Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) to resist physical tampering attacks. We validate the protocol's security formally and informally. The formal security analysis is conducted through a widely used RoR model. We use the Scyther simulation tool to verify the proposed protocol's security against various attacks. Moreover, we compare the performance of our protocol with similar existing protocols across important performance parameters such as communication and computation overheads and security attributes. The proposed protocol yields substantial improvements, demonstrating a 40.74% reduction in computation overhead and a 13.03% decrease in communication overhead as compared to related protocols, delivering both enhanced performance and resource efficiency. The analysis demonstrates its capacity to support secure communication in the VCC environment and satisfy desirable security attributes. © 2024 IEEE.

Machine learning and data augmentation in the proxy means test for poverty targeting

Recent years have seen increased interest in the use of alternative data sources in the definition and production of official statistics and indicators for the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In this paper, we consider the application of data science to the production of official statistics, illustrating our perspective through the use of poverty targeting as an application. We show that machine learning can play a central role in the generation of official statistics, combining a variety of types of data (survey, administrative and alternative). We focus on the problem of poverty targeting using the Proxy Means Test in Indonesia, comparing a number of existing statistical and machine learning methods, then introducing new approaches in the spirit of small area estimation that utilize area-level features and data augmentation at the subdistrict level to develop more refined models at the district level, evaluating the methods on three districts in Indonesia on the problem of estimating 2020 per capita household expenditure using data from 2016-2019. The best performing method, XGBoost, is able to reduce inclusion/exclusion errors on the problem of identifying the poorest 40% of the population in comparison to the commonly used Ridge Regression method by between 4.5% and 13.9% in the districts studied. © 2023 - IOS Press. Deepfake detection has gained increasing research attention in media forensics, and a variety of works have been produced. However, subtle artifacts might be eliminated by compression, and the convolutional neural networks (CNNs)-based detectors are invalidated for fake face images with compression. In this work, we propose a two-stream network for deepfake detection. We observed that high-frequency noise features and spatial features are inherently complementary to each other. Thus, both spatial features and high-frequency noise features are exploited for face forgery detection. Specifically, we design a double-frequency transformer module (DFTM) to guide the learning of spatial features from local artifact regions. To effectively fuse spatial features and high-frequency noise features, a dual-domain attention fusion module (DDAFM) is designed. We also introduce a local relationship constraint loss, which requires only image-level labels, for model training. We evaluate the proposed approach on five large-scale benchmark datasets, and extensive experimental results demonstrate the proposed approach outperforms most SOTA works. © 2024 IEEE.

Modern high-stakes systems, such as healthcare or robotics, often generate vast streaming event sequences. Our goal is to design an efficient, plug- and-play tool to elicit logic tree-based explanations from Large Language Models (LLMs) to provide customized insights into each observed event sequence. Built on the temporal point process model for events, our method employs the likelihood function as a score to evaluate generated logic trees. We propose an amortized Expectation-Maximization (EM) learning framework and treat the logic tree as latent variables. In the E-step, we evaluate the posterior distribution over the latent logic trees using an LLM prior and the likelihood of the observed event sequences. LLM provides a high-quality prior for the latent logic trees, however, since the posterior is built over a discrete combinatorial space, we cannot get the closed-form solution. We propose to generate logic tree samples from the posterior using a learnable GFlowNet, which is a diversity-seeking generator for structured discrete variables. The M-step employs the generated logic rules to approximate marginalization over the posterior, facilitating the learning of model parameters and refining the tunable LLM prior parameters. In the online setting, our locally built, lightweight model will iteratively extract the most relevant rules from LLMs for each sequence using only a few iterations. Empirical demonstrations showcase the promising performance and adaptability of our framework. Copyright 2024 by the author(s)

Dynamic flexible job shop scheduling (DFJSS) is an important combinatorial optimisation problem that aims to optimise machine resources to improve production efficiency. Multi-tree genetic programming (MTGP) has been widely used to learn the routing rule and the sequencing rule for DFJSS simultaneously. Unlike traditional genetic programming that only operates crossover on a single tree, MTGP has various cases to conduct crossover since a genetic programming individual consists of more than one tree. Different crossover operators may affect the performance of MTGP for DFJSS. However, the investigation into different crossover operators in MTGP for DFJSS is rare. Specifically, it is not clear what influence will have on MTGP if involving both the routing rule and the sequencing rule for crossover. To this end, this paper provides a comprehensive investigation of four possible crossover cases between multiple scheduling heuristics with MTGP for DFJSS. The four operators are designed according to the number of trees/rules that crossover operator works on, and whether swapping full trees between parents. The results show that although the compared algorithms have comparable results in most scenarios, MTGP with both rules for crossover and the swapping strategy is ranked as the best one. Further analyses show that the sizes of learned rules are highly related to the crossover operators, and crossover involving more rules can increase the rule sizes, and vice versa. In addition, the population diversity and the number of unique features in the learned rules of MTGP with both rules for crossover are increased to learn effective rules. © 2024 IEEE.

Joint Double Auction-Based Channel Selection in Wireless Monitoring Networks

In wireless networks, utilizing sniffers for fault analysis, traffic traceback, and resource optimization is a crucial task. However, existing centralized algorithms cannot be applied to high-density wireless networks. Therefore, distributed optimization of channel selection to maximize the monitoring rate of sensors in Wireless Monitoring Networks (WMNs) is a challenge. This paper proposes a joint double auction-based distributed channel selection algorithm (J2A-CS) to maximize overall quality of monitoring (QoM). First, sniffers are redundantly deployed in WMNs, and an initial channel allocation strategy is formulated. Subsequently, sniffers collectively act as buyers and sellers at different stages. Finally, buyers bid asynchronously, and sellers settle synchronously to maximize the seller's marginal revenue and update the channel selection scheme. As a distributed channel selection algorithm, J2A-CS addresses the highest overall QoM issue in WMNs, demonstrating high scalability and fault tolerance. Simulation results show that J2A-CS significantly improves QoM compared to existing distributed algorithms and outperforms centralized algorithms in high-density scenarios. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Clever system that can look at pictures of fruits and figure out what kind of fruit each picture shows. AI algorithms like deep learning, which is like giving the Machine learning model a crash course in fruit recognition. This method teaches the ML Model we clearly explained the Model using application's agent using PEAS and the application's task environment using the 6 dimensions by showing it tons of fruit images, so over time, it gets really good at spotting the differences and similarities between, say, a banana and a grape. We also used another technique called pattern recognition, which helps the computer pay attention to specific details like the fruit's color, shape, size and texture. Overcoming multiple obstacles in order to automatically identify the type of fruit from the picture. The variety of images is influencing the color, texture, and shape of many different types of fruits. When it came to fruit picture detection, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) Algorithm outperformed standard support-vector-machine-based approaches using handcrafted features in terms of accuracy also, it is a lot faster to implement for new fruits. By integrating deep learning and pattern recognition techniques such as Convolutional Neural Network Algorithm we have got the accuracy of 84%, our system efficiently identified different fruit types from images, demonstrating the power and effectiveness of our methods. The goal of our project is to create a tool that can quickly and correctly identify many types of fruits in photos, which could be useful for things like sorting fruits in a grocery store or helping people learn about different fruits by using Convolutional Neural Network Algorithm. This is not just about teaching a computer to recognize fruits;it is about making technology that can understand and interact with the world in a way that is helpful to us. © 2025 IEEE.
