A multiagent sequential decision problem has been seen in many critical applications including urban transportation, autonomous driving cars, military operations, etc. Its widely known solution, namely multiagent reinforcement learning, has evolved tremendously in recent years. Among them, the solution paradigm of modeling other agents attracts our interest, which is different from traditional value decomposition or communication mechanisms. It enables agents to understand and anticipate others’ behaviors and facilitates their collaboration. Inspired by recent research on the legibility that allows agents to reveal their intentions through their behavior, we propose a multiagent active legibility framework to improve their performance. The legibility-oriented framework allows agents to conduct legible actions so as to help others optimise their behaviors. In addition, we design a series of problem domains that emulate a common scenario and best characterize the legibility in multiagent reinforcement learning. The experimental results demonstrate that the new framework is more efficient and costs less training time compared to several multiagent reinforcement learning algorithms. Low Pass Filtering and Bandwidth Extension for Robust Anti-spoofing Countermeasure Against Codec Variabilities

A reliable voice anti-spoofing countermeasure system needs to robustly protect automatic speaker verification (ASV) systems in various kinds of spoofing scenarios. However, the performance of countermeasure systems could be degraded by channel effects and codecs. In this paper, we show that using the low-frequency subbands of signals as input can mitigate the negative impact introduced by codecs on the countermeasure systems. To validate this, two types of low-pass filters with different cut-off frequencies are applied to countermeasure systems, and the equal error rate (EER) is reduced by up to 25% relatively. In addition, we propose a deep learning based bandwidth extension approach to further improve the detection accuracy. Recent studies show that the error rate of countermeasure systems increase dramatically when the silence part is removed by Voice Activity Detection (VAD), our experimental results show that the filtering and bandwidth extension approaches are also effective under the codec condition when VAD is applied. © 2022, CC BY.

Semi-supervised learning algorithms make use of both labelled training data and unlabelled data. However, the visual domain gap between these sets poses a challenge which prevents deep learning models from obtaining the results they have achieved most especially in the field of medical imaging. Recently, self-training with deep learning has become a powerful approach to leverage labelled training and unlabelled data. However, a challenge of generating noisy pseudo-labels and placing over-confident labelling belief on incorrect classes leads to deviation from the solution. To solve this challenge, the study investigates a curriculum-styled approach for deep semi-supervised segmentation which relaxes and treats pseudo-labels as continuous hidden variables by developing an adaptive pseudo-label generation strategy to jointly optimized the pseudo-label generation and selection process. A regularization scheme is further proposed to smoothen the probability outputs and sharpen the less represented pseudo-label regions. The proposed method was evaluated on three publicly available computer Tomography (CT) scan benchmarks and extensive experiments on all modules have demonstrated the efficacy of the proposed method. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Price hike has always been a substantial concern for people all over the world. The crisis gets more conspicuous, and people find themselves more confounded when even the bare minimum of expenses still exceeds the amount they can get to earn. This tension tends to invite chaos in society as the number of people affected increases. Bangladesh is currently undergoing a formidable wave of price hikes. People have been expressing mixed reactions on social media regarding this issue. Hence, understanding the overall public sentiment can be crucial for policymaking and preventing chaos in society. This study utilizes social media comments for analyzing underlying sentiments. data were collected from the Facebook pages of some popular Bangladeshi media for this purpose, and thereby a specialized dataset was constructed. The dataset contains 2000 public comments annotated with three polarity values- positive, negative, and neutral. A hybrid LSTM-ANN deep architecture has been exploited in this research. The model outperforms other state-of- the-art models in terms of less trainable parameters along with an F1-score of 88.47%.

Generative AI for Physical Layer Communications: A Survey

The recent evolution of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) leads to the emergence of groundbreaking applications such as ChatGPT, which not only enhances the efficiency of digital content production, such as text, audio, video, or even network traffic data, but also enriches its diversity. Beyond digital content creation, GAI’s capability in analyzing complex data distributions offers great potential for wireless communications, particularly amidst a rapid expansion of new physical layer communication technologies. For example, the diffusion model can learn input signal distributions and use them to improve the channel estimation accuracy, while the variational autoencoder can model channel distribution and infer latent variables for blind channel equalization. Therefore, this paper presents a comprehensive investigation of GAI’s applications for communications at the physical layer, ranging from traditional issues, including signal classification, channel estimation, and equalization, to emerging topics, such as intelligent reflecting surfaces and joint source channel coding. We also compare GAI-enabled physical layer communications with those supported by traditional AI, highlighting GAI’s inherent capabilities and unique contributions in these areas. Finally, the paper discusses open issues and proposes several future research directions, laying a foundation for further exploration and advancement of GAI in physical layer communications. Connectomics is a popular approach for under-standing the brain with neuroimaging data. However, a con-nectome generated from one atlas is different in size, topology, and scale compared to a connectome generated from another. Consequently, connectomes generated from different atlases can-not be used in the same analysis. This limitation hinders efforts toward increasing sample size and demonstrating generalizability across datasets. Recently, we proposed Cross Atlas Remapping via Optimal Transport (CAROT) to find a spatial mapping between a pair of atlases based on a set of training data. The mapping transforms timeseries fMRI data parcellated with an atlas to form a connectome based on a different one. Crucially, CAROT does not need raw fMRI data and thus does not require re-processing, which can otherwise be time-consuming and expensive. The current CAROT implementation leverages information from several source atlases to create robust mappings for a target atlas. In this work, we extend CAROT to combine existing mappings between a source and target atlas for an arbitrary number of mappings. This extension (labeled Stacking CAROT) allows mappings between a pair of atlases to be created once and re-used with other pre-trained mappings to create new mappings as needed. Reconstructed connectomes from Stacking CAROT perform as well as those from CAROT in downstream analyses. Importantly, Stacking CAROT significantly reduces training time and storage requirements compared to CAROT. Overall, Stacking CAROT improves previous versions of CAROT.

Camouflaged Object Detection via Context-aware Cross-level Fusion

Camouflaged object detection (COD) aims to identify the objects that conceal themselves in natural scenes. Accurate COD suffers from a number of challenges associated with low boundary contrast and the large variation of object appearances, e.g., object size and shape. To address these challenges, we propose a novel Context-aware Cross-level Fusion Network (C2F-Net), which fuses context-aware cross-level features for accurately identifying camouflaged objects. Specifically, we compute informative attention coefficients from multi-level features with our Attention-induced Cross-level Fusion Module (ACFM), which further integrates the features under the guidance of attention coefficients. We then propose a Dual-branch Global Context Module (DGCM) to refine the fused features for informative feature representations by exploiting rich global context information. Multiple ACFMs and DGCMs are integrated in a cascaded manner for generating a coarse prediction from high-level features. The coarse prediction acts as an attention map to refine the low-level features before passing them to our Camouflage Inference Module (CIM) to generate the final prediction. We perform extensive experiments on three widely used benchmark datasets and compare C2F-Net with state-of-the-art (SOTA) models. The results show that C2F-Net is an effective COD model and outperforms SOTA models remarkably. Further, an evaluation on polyp segmentation datasets demonstrates the promising potentials of our C2F-Net in COD downstream applications. The overflow of water from a lake or river usually causes flooding. Sometimes, a dam breach might result in the unexpected release of vast quantities of water. Some of the water seeps into the ground, flooding the region. In a station, rivers are involving the riverbanks. Along with a lack of goods and houses, businesses, and offices, street infrastructure floods contain bacteria, sewage from waste sites, and chemical spills, which later cause a number of diseases. The rate of change in river stage in real time, which can assist signal the gravity and immediacy of this hazard, is a crucial piece of information for flood predictions. Understanding the type of storm that produced the moisture, including its duration, strength, and actual extent, is important for determining the possible severity of the flood. In this system, an Arduino Uno is connected to four separate sensors: a humidity sensor, a flow sensor, a float sensor, and an ultrasonic sensor. The float sensor detects when the water is full. With the aid of IOT, these sensor combinations are utilised to predict floods, alert the appropriate authorities, and sound an immediate alarm in adjacent communities to rapidly relay information about potential floods. These sensors provide data via the IOT’s WiFi module. When flooding conditions are detected, the system warns the nearby villages and places and estimates how long it would take for help to reach at a particular location. The technology also determines when it might be considered a flood and gives them a window of time to leave in case it does.

Existing methods for modeling recommendation systems based on knowledge graphs include embedding-based, pathbased, and propagation-based methods. The embedding-based approach is flexible but more suitable for intra-graph applications, the path-based approach can model complex relationships but has a high computational cost, and the propagation-based approach considers global information but may introduce noise. This study proposed a simple and efficient model, called SEKGAT, which comprehensive the ideology of path-based and propagation approach to personalized recommendation by aggregating the user preferences through graph attention mechanism and fusing multiple feature representations on the knowledge graph into item features through pooling aggregators. Experimental results for the CTR prediction and Top-K recommendation tasks on three datasets of real-world scenarios show that our model approach is competitive.

In multi-label learning, each instance is associated with a set of labels simultaneously. Most existing studies assume that the set of labels for each instance is complete. However, it is generally difficult to obtain all the relevant labels of each instance, and only a partial or even empty set of relevant labels is available, which is called semi-supervised multi-label learning with missing labels. To tackle this problem, we propose a novel framework that considers label correlations and instance correlations to recover the missing labels and utilizes a large amount of unlabeled data simultaneously to improve the classification performance. Specifically, a new supplementary label matrix is firstly obtained by learning the label correlation. Secondly, considering each class label may be decided by some specific characteristics of its own, a label-specific data representation is hence learned for each class label. Thirdly, instance correlations are utilized not only to recover the missing labels, but also to propagate the supervision information from labeled instances to unlabeled ones. In addition, a united objective function is designed to facilitate the above processing and an accelerated proximal gradient method is adopted to solve the optimization problem. Finally, extensive experimental results conducted on several benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method compared to competing ones.
