People with color vision deficiency often face challenges in distinguishing colors such as red and green, which can complicate daily tasks and require the use of assistive tools or environmental adjustments. Current support tools mainly focus on presentation-based aids, like the color vision modes found in iPhone accessibility settings. However, offering context-aware support, like indicating the doneness of meat, remains a challenge since task-specific solutions are not cost-effective for all possible scenarios. To address this, our paper proposes an application that provides contextual and autonomous assistance. This application is mainly composed of: (i) an augmented reality interface that efficiently captures context;and (ii) a multi-modal large language model-based reasoner that serves to cognitize the context and then reason about the appropriate support contents. Preliminary user experiments with two color vision deficient users across five different scenarios have demonstrated the effectiveness and universality of our application. © 2024, CC BY.

Most women generally have an ovarian cyst, causing the disorder. Pregnant cysts occur when many water-packed tumors appear in the womb. This is especially true for women who have a worthy cause for childbearing. Women are related to menstrual problems and cyst problems during pregnancy. Recently, ultrasound imaging and machine learning techniques have been used to detect ovarian cysts. Different domain experts provide their own decisions on finding out what kind of ovarian cyst it is from ultrasound images. However, a most accurate and uniform decision-making system is necessary for the early detection of cysts. To aid physicians, an automated detection system has been proposed in this paper to make it more effective for physicians to eliminate these problems. This system uses the extracted features from the image for cysts detection and classification. Automatic ovary cyst detection (OCD) and classification are implemented in this work using a fuzzy rule-based Convolutional Neural Network (FCNN). The proposed system (OCD-FCNN) has yielded 98.37% accurate results when tested with benchmark datasets. © 2023 The Authors

The area of oil palm plantations in Indonesia increased by 7% from 14 million ha in 2017 to 15 million ha in 2021. The vast land requires the support of effective and efficient management techniques to maintain sustainable productivity. The high-performance computing technologies, Internet of Things (IoT), Big data, Artificial Intelligence, spatial modeling, and drones are the answers to these needs. This study aims to design an application that can obtain plantation image data and analyze the calculation of the number of oil palm trees. The image of oil palm plantations is obtained from processing photo data from drones through a mosaic and composite process. This study also employed Scrum and UML as a system model development method. The image of the oil palm plantation area is used to build a tree counting model using the Viola-Jones algorithm. The oil palm tree count information generated by this system can then be used by management for fertilizing, harvesting, and monitoring the condition of oil palm trees. © 2022 IEEE.

Road damage detection system based on deep learning models has been extensively researched, capable of intelligently detecting damages in roads. However, to ensure reliability, a large number of images usually need to be collected and annotated to test the model. Collecting images is often a straightforward work, but annotating them is both time-consuming and costly. To minimize annotation costs during the testing phase, we can evaluate images using Test Prioritization method to select more meaningful samples for system testing. Yet, most mainstream work currently only evaluates cases based on classification result, neglecting the impact of localization. At the same time, these methods do not provide higher evaluation results to complex images that may detect errors or images where targets cannot be detected at all. To address these issues, we propose a new Test Prioritization tool, Dual-u, to evaluate road damage cases. It consists of two components: (1) Localization Uncertainty Evaluation, which evaluates the localization of damages while considering the value of the image, ensuring that complex images and images where targets cannot be detected also have higher priority; (2) Classification Uncertainty Evaluation, which evaluates the classification of damages. To evaluate Dual-u, we conduct extensive experiments using two object detection model architectures on multiple road disease datasets, and the results demonstrate that Dual-u outperforms existing methods in evaluating cases. Moreover, Dual-u can also be used to improve the accuracy and robustness of road disease detection models.

The emergence of cloud computing technology has motivated a very high number of users in different organizations to access its services in running and delivering their various operations and services. However, this surge of cloud users has led to the problem of uneven load sharing among the cloud computing infrastructures. As a result, federated cloud infrastructure was initiated to provide more cloud computing resources to accommodate more cloud users' requests and also to provide equal requests mapping with the available cloud resources. Nevertheless, the issue of unequal allocation of requests within the datacenter(s) that makes up the federated cloud environment still persists. This research work presents an intra-datacenter load balancing algorithm in a federated cloud environment named;the intra-balancer adapted throttled algorithm to evenly distribute requests in each datacenter that formulate the federated cloud infrastructures. The simulation of the intra-balancer was carried out in CloudAnalyst, the results of the implementation showed that the intra-balancer outperformed the Round-Robin and ESCE with 98.93ms and 2.26ms for the response and processing time respectively. The results assert that the intra-balancer algorithm provides a better load balancing solution in a federated cloud environment. © 2024 IEEE.

Gesture recognition plays a crucial role in a wide range of consumer electronics applications, including human-computer interaction and virtual reality, by enabling the identification and interpretation of human gestures. In recent times, WiFi-based gesture recognition has garnered significant attention due to its privacy protection and unobtrusive nature. However, this approach heavily depends on neural network-based models and is notably influenced by environmental conditions, such as specific location and orientation. To address these environmental impacts, we propose a network framework that leverages transfer learning and meta-learning. The primary focus is on utilizing transfer learning to train a convolutional neural network (ResNet) for feature extraction, enabling the extraction of domain-independent features specifically related to gestures, rather than being influenced by environmental factors. Additionally, we employ the meta-learning algorithm MAML to train the fully connected network for gesture classification. Following training, a small set of samples can be utilized for rapid adaptation to diverse domains, maintaining high accuracy across different domains to achieve cross-domain gesture recognition. Our performance evaluation is based on the Widar 3.0 dataset, encompassing both in-domain and cross-domain scenarios. The simulation results demonstrate that our proposed algorithm surpasses Widar3.0 and WiGRUNT by approximately 7.9% and 1.12% in gesture recognition accuracy across all scenarios. © 2025 IEEE.

Cell Graph Transformer for Nuclei Classification

Nuclei classification is a critical step in computer-aided diagnosis with histopathology images. In the past, various methods have employed graph neural networks (GNN) to analyze cell graphs that model inter-cell relationships by considering nuclei as vertices. However, they are limited by the GNN mechanism that only passes messages among local nodes via fixed edges. To address the issue, we develop a cell graph transformer (CGT) that treats nodes and edges as input tokens to enable learnable adjacency and information exchange among all nodes. Nevertheless, training the transformer with a cell graph presents another challenge. Poorly initialized features can lead to noisy self-attention scores and inferior convergence, particularly when processing the cell graphs with numerous connections. Thus, we further propose a novel topology-aware pretraining method that leverages a graph convolutional network (GCN) to learn a feature extractor. The pre-trained features may suppress unreasonable correlations and hence ease the finetuning of CGT. Experimental results suggest that the proposed cell graph transformer with topology-aware pretraining significantly improves the nuclei classification results, and achieves the state-of-the-art performance. Circular RNA (circRNA), a novel endogenous noncoding RNA molecule with a closed-loop structure, can be used as a biomarker for many complex human diseases. Determining the relationship between circRNAs and diseases helps us to understand the diagnosis, treatment, and pathogenesis of complex diseases, which plays a critical role in clinical research. Nevertheless, the discovery of new circRNA-disease associations by wet-lab methods is not only time-consuming and costly but also randomized and blinded, which is also limited to small-scale studies. Thus, there is an urgent need to establish efficient and reliable computational methods to infer potential circRNA-disease associations on a large scale to effectively reduce costs and save time, and avoid high false-positive rates. In this paper, we propose a novel computational method for predicting circRNA-disease association based on the Similarity Assessing Graph Convolution Network (SAGCN) algorithm, which combines the multi-source similarity network constructed by circRNA and disease. Firstly, we fuse the multi-source similarity information of circRNAs and diseases and construct the multi-source similarity network respectively. Then we use the SAGCN algorithm to extract the hidden feature representations of circRNAs and diseases efficiently and objectively in the way of measuring the similarity between different nodes in the network. Finally, the obtained high-level features of circRNAs and diseases are fed to the multilayer perceptron (MLP) classifier for accurate prediction. Using the 5-fold cross-validation method, the AUC scores of the four SAGCN algorithms, on the benchmark circR2Disease dataset are 93.30%, 92.98%, 92.22% and 91.94%, respectively. Furthermore, case studies further validated that the proposed model was supported by biological experiments, and 25 of the top 30 circRNA-disease associations with the highest scores were confirmed by recent literature. The added deployment of Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices in various environments has led to people increasingly adding this technology to their homes to make them more comfortable and have a more convenient living environment. Despite the promise and the growth potential of the smart home market, one main concern is the security and privacy of smart home devices. This is because smart home devices equipped with IoT technology are prone to various network-based attacks. With smart home devices having limited computation and memory capabilities, many IoT manufacturers often overlook the security aspect by focusing more on the functionality. To address this issue, the concepts of machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) have emerged as viable and promising solutions. To that end, this paper proposes a hybrid stacking ensemble DL-enabled framework that combines both classical ML models with sophisticated DL models. The goal is to make use of the simplicity and interpretability of the classical ML models with the superior time-dependent patterns that DL models can detect. The proposed framework's performance is evaluated using multiple datasets representing different smart home devices. Experimental results show that the proposed framework achieved better detection accuracy, precision, recall, and F-score.
