automating decision-making on a wide range of aspects are affecting humanity. There is great promise in machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms for assisting with predicted and automated decision-making and transforming both societies and industries to improve African citizens' everyday lives. In a business context, platforms such as cloud computing can benefit a lot from AI and ML. Prediction models could be developed to predict the traffic flow of cloud computing resources, which could ease traffic flow. Although AI and ML cloud computing are powerful and vital, they are unfortunately not immune from ethical challenges. As well as improving the allocation of cloud computing resources with prediction models. In recent years, despite AI's powerful performance, in order to conduct responsible AI and ML modeling, it is important not to ignore ethical issues that might need serious investigation, particularly if human and classified data are concerned. In this regard, the objective of this paper is to determine the prevalence of AI and ML ethics research in Africa. In this paper, RStudio and the computing-related databases (IEEE Xplore, Web of service and Scopus) were used to conduct a bibliometric analysis on the prevalence of AI and ML ethics that relate to the cloud computing environment. The scope was minimized due to its prevalence in the African context. The findings show that AI and ML ethics are understudied on the African continent compared to the West. In this regard, there is a need to conduct more AI and ML ethics-related research in Africa because failure to do so will result in the West shaping the ethical discussion in areas of importance for African development, such as cloud computing. The latter will allow the West to slowly impose its perspective without considering African perspectives. Bacteria are microscopic organisms that can be found in many environments. They are abundant and have many roles in our life. Studying bacteria is essential so that we can identify the bacteria that are needed for many industrial applications. However, the main problem is that majority of the bacteria are unculturable, hampering the exploration of bacteria from different environments. Metagenomics approach which employs Next Generation Sequencing technology could help study bacteria by utilizing 16S rRNA marker gene. This study aims to demonstrate data mining and bioinformatics approaches to analyze 16S rRNA sequencing data. The raw sequencing data of 16S rRNA was collected from biological database. Then, the data were trimmed, denoised, and clustered to generate Amplicon Sequence Variants (ASVs). Diversity (alpha and beta) and taxonomic analyses were then conducted to elucidate the bacterial diversity and taxonomic profile of ASVs. The results of this work showed that Shannon and PD indices in China's hot spring were higher than Singapore and the USA. Furthermore, a significant difference was observed in the PD index. The unweighted UniFrac distance also showed there was a significant difference of the bacterial communities between the three locations. In addition, the taxonomic investigation unveiled prevalent bacterial groups in the ecosystem, namely Proteobacteria, Chloroflexi, Cyanobacteria, and Crenarchaeota. The research outcomes have the potential to serve as a foundational resource for subsequent bacterial metagenomic research, particularly the hot spring environment. © 2023 IEEE.

The rise of various social platforms has transformed journalism. The growing demand for news content has led to the increased use of large language models (LLMs) in news production due to their speed and cost-effectiveness. However, LLMs still encounter limitations in professionalism and ethical judgment in news generation. Additionally, predicting public feedback is usually difficult before news is released. To tackle these challenges, we introduce AI-Press, an automated news drafting and polishing system based on multi-agent collaboration and Retrieval-Augmented Generation. We develop a feedback simulation system that generates public feedback considering demographic distributions. Through extensive quantitative and qualitative evaluations, our system shows significant improvements in news-generating capabilities and verifies the effectiveness of public feedback simulation. ©2025 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Temporal interaction graphs (TIGs), consisting of sequences of timestamped interaction events, are prevalent in fields like e-commerce and social networks. To better learn dynamic node embeddings that vary over time, researchers have proposed a series of temporal graph neural networks for TIGs. However, due to the entangled temporal and structural dependencies, existing methods have to process the sequence of events chronologically and consecutively to ensure node representations are up-to-date. This prevents existing models from parallelization and reduces their flexibility in industrial applications. To tackle the above challenge, in this paper, we propose TIGER, a TIG embedding model that can restart at any timestamp. We introduce a restarter module that generates surrogate representations acting as the warm initialization of node representations. By restarting from multiple timestamps simultaneously, we divide the sequence into multiple chunks and naturally enable the parallelization of the model. Moreover, in contrast to previous models that utilize a single memory unit, we introduce a dual memory module to better exploit neighborhood information and alleviate the staleness problem. Extensive experiments on four public datasets and one industrial dataset are conducted, and the results verify both the effectiveness and the efficiency of our work. © 2023 ACM.

Humour detection has attracted considerable attention due to its significance in interpreting dialogues across text, visual, and acoustic modalities. However, effective methods to map correlations among different modalities remain an active area of research. In this study, we go beyond traditional machine learning techniques by introducing a Variational Quantum Circuit (VQC) that capitalizes on the inherent quantum properties of superposition, entanglement, and interference. Our proposed model, Quantum Multi-Modal data Fusion (QuMIN), is designed to better capture and reproduce the interaction across modalities, as well as the internal correlations within each modality. Our introduction of the novel VQC, which augments the DialogueRNN baseline with only an additional 4,809 parameters, signifies a substantial advancement in multi-modal humor detection with improvements of 12.34% in precision, 8.84% in recall and 10.57% in F1 score compared to the state-of-the-art methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

In educational institutions, an educator is responsible for assessing the student's knowledge grasp through examination. Creating exam questions, even the low-level factoid questions, is time-consuming, especially for inexperienced educators. Therefore, this study aims to create a sequence-to-sequence model using CopyNet by exploiting its copying mechanism advantage to automatically generate Bahasa Indonesia factoid questions to ease the educator's burden. Indonesian records in the TyDi QA dataset are used as the model input. GRU and Bi-GRU are employed as the CopyNet encoder, while LSTM is used as the CopyNet decoder. The model that utilizes GRU as the encoder achieves BLEU1, BLEU2, BLEU3, BLEU4, and ROUGE-L scores of 0.28, 0.19, 0.14, 0.1, and 0.32, respectively. Bi-GRU utilization as the model encoder achieves BLEU1, BLEU2, BLEU3, BLEU4, and ROUGE-L scores of 0.26, 0.17, 0.12, 0.09, and 0.30, respectively. Models using either encoder still achieve low scores. However, compared with the previous work, the result is still on par regarding the BLEU score. Further examination found that the generated questions do not adhere to semantic and syntactical correctness. Adding more records to the dataset and utilizing a more advanced architecture like CopyBERT are encouraged to improve the model performance in future work. Despite the result, this study has shown that CopyNet, primarily designed for text summarization or single-turn dialogue, can be tailored for factoid question generation. © 2024 The Authors.

Colored Petri nets (CPNs) provide descriptions of the concurrent behaviors for software and hardware. Model checking based on CPNs is an effective method to simulate and verify the concurrent behavior in system design. However, the model-checking method traverses the full state space, which suffers from the state-space explosion problem. A reduced state-space generation method related to the property of concurrent systems is proposed. Specifically, we extend CPNs to define a property-related model (CPN-PR) and give a property-related analysis method whose results can be used to generate the CPN-PR model. A reduced state-space generation method is developed based on enabled binding element filtering rules. The stutter trace equivalence between the state spaces of CPN and CPN-PR has been proven by showing that the reduced state space may not change the model-checking result. A comparison experiment is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

Sarcasm, a sort of sentiment characterized by a disparity between the apparent and intended meanings of the text, is a key component of sentiment analysis, opinion extraction, and social media analytics. However, sarcasm detection in Bangla has not received sufficient research attention yet. Moreover, there hasn't been a significant amount of study done comparing traditional and contextual word embeddings for the Bengali language. This study aims to address this gap by comparing traditional embedding by using the Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit - BiGRU model and contextual embedding by using Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers - BERT for sarcasm detection in Bangla. The collection of the dataset of Bangla text was from social media platforms, containing labelled instances - whether it provides sarcasm or non-sarcasm. Pre-trained word embeddings i.e. GloVe and FastText are used as traditional embedding for this study. By using metrics like precision, recall and F1-score, the performances for both models have been obtained. When the two traditional word embedding approaches are compared, GloVe embedding with Bi-GRU has outperformed FastText embedding with a macro-averaged F1 score of 0.9395. On the other hand, contextual word embedding using BERT has outperformed both the traditional approaches having a better macro-averaged F1 score of 0.9572 and greater class-wise performance as compared with traditional embedding for both non-sarcastic (96%) and sarcastic (96%) text detection. In our findings, contextual word embedding i.e. BERT has performed better as compared with the two traditional word embeddings for this specific Bangla sarcasm detection binary classification task. © 2023 IEEE.

Virtual Reality (VR) technology is a computer simulation system that allows the creation and experience of virtual worlds. Because of its immersive, interactive, and realistic characteristics, VR is increasingly useful in educational contexts. However, due to the limitation of communication technology, problems such as high latency and vertigo of VR gradually appear in the teaching process, greatly affecting the learning experience of learners. 5G's technical advantages with high speed, low latency, and large capacity can provide the possibility for VR to better serve teaching practice activities. Thus, based on the unique advantages of 5G, this paper describes the virtual reality experiment (VRE) of the 5G service convergence course based on 5G+VR. Combined with our school's training plan for the communication major, this paper proposes the VRE teaching model. According to the results of the learning effect and learning process evaluation, the VRE teaching model can effectively improve students' enthusiasm and initiative in learning, thereby promoting the cultivation of communication professionals. © 2023 IEEE.
