Photovoltaic panel used in solar power generation is an environmentally beneficial and sustainable energy source that has been used to transform sunlight into electrical power. Arranged in large solar facilities, these panels are connected to a central inverter, which converts Direct Current (DC) to alternating current (AC) electricity with a small amount of energy loss. Clean surfaces, unhindered light exposure, and high solar irradiance are all necessary for optimal panel performance. It's critical to assess the inverter's efficiency by comparing its AC to DC power. Large-scale installations with sensor-equipped panels and inverters track performance to help with maintenance and forecasting of power generation. The Internet of Things (IoT) facilitates data accessibility and remote monitoring, which helps choose the best location for solar power generation. Smart system continuous monitoring expedites site inspections, which supports urban smart grid integration. In this research study, a hybrid machine learning model is presented by combining the attention processes, long short-term memory (LSTM) networks, and clustering approaches. This model is separated into different phases for forecasting, training, and cloud data clustering, finds pertinent historical data, builds a hybrid machine learning model, and chooses the best training model. In comparison to conventional approaches, this method significantly improves prediction accuracy, which is important for integrating photovoltaic systems into smart grids, particularly in smart cities. © 2024 IEEE.

The images captured under extreme lighting conditions can exhibit severe image degradation, which significantly impacts the performance of downstream visual tasks. Existing deep learning-based approaches for low-light image enhancement have primarily focused on spatial domain enhancement while neglecting frequency domain information. Therefore, we introduce a novel network for low-light image enhancement that operates in both spatial and frequency domains (multi-scale pyramid and Fourier transform) simultaneously, named SMFNet. Our main idea involves using a dual-branch structure, incorporating spatial and multi-scale frequency domain branches. The spatial branch employs SpaBlock to extract image features, while the multi-scale frequency branch utilizes Laplacian pyramid and Fourier transform to extract frequency domain information. Furthermore, SpaBlock supplements spatial domain information in the frequency branch. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach yields promising results in terms of both quantitative and qualitative metrics across various publicly available datasets. © 2024 IEEE.

ML-KFHE: Multi-label Ensemble Classification Algorithm Exploiting Sensor Fusion Properties of the Kalman Filter

Despite the success of ensemble classification methods in multi-class classification problems, ensemble methods based on approaches other than bagging have not been widely explored for multi-label classification problems. The Kalman filter-based Heuristic ensemble (KFHE) is an ensemble method that exploits the sensor fusion properties of the Kalman filter to combine several classifier models, and that has been shown to be very effective. This work proposes a multi-label version of KFHE, ML-KFHE, demonstrating the effectiveness of the KFHE method on multi-label datasets. Two variants are introduced based on the underlying component classifier algorithm, ML-KFHE-HOMER, and ML-KFHE-CC which uses HOMER and classifier chain (CC) as the underlying multi-label algorithms, respectively. ML-KFHE-HOMER and ML-KFHE-CC sequentially train multiple HOMER and CC multi-label classifiers and aggregate their outputs using the sensor fusion properties of the Kalman filter. Extensive experiments and detailed analysis were performed on thirteen multi-label datasets and eight other algorithms, which included state-of-the-art ensemble methods. The results show, for both versions, the ML-KFHE framework improves the predictive performance significantly with respect to bagged combinations of HOMER (named E-HOMER), also introduced in this paper, and bagged combination of CC, ensemble classifier chains (ECC), thus demonstrating the effectiveness of ML-KFHE. Also, the ML-KFHE-HOMER variant was found to perform consistently and significantly better than the compared multi-label methods including existing approaches based on ensembles. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

With the development of hardware devices and the upgrading of smartphones,a large number of users save privacy-related information in mobile devices,mainly smartphones,which puts forward higher demands on the protection of mobile users’privacy *** present,mobile user authenticationmethods based on humancomputer interaction have been extensively studied due to their advantages of high precision and non-perception,but there are still shortcomings such as low data collection efficiency,untrustworthy participating nodes,and lack of *** this end,this paper proposes a privacy-enhanced mobile user authentication method with motion sensors,which mainly includes:(1)Construct a smart contract-based private chain and federated learning to improve the data collection efficiency of mobile user authentication,reduce the probability of the model being bypassed by attackers,and reduce the overhead of data centralized processing and the risk of privacy leakage;(2)Use certificateless encryption to realize the authentication of the device to ensure the credibility of the client nodes participating in the calculation;(3)Combine Variational Mode Decomposition(VMD)and Long Short-TermMemory(LSTM)to analyze and model the motion sensor data of mobile devices to improve the accuracy of model *** experimental results on the real environment dataset of 1513 people show that themethod proposed in this paper can effectively resist poisoning attacks while ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of mobile user authentication.

Rating Text Classification with Weighted Negative Supervision on Classifier Layer

Bidirectional encoder representations from transformers(BERT) gives full play to the advantages of the attention mechanism, improves the performance of sentence representation, and provides a better choice for various natural language understanding(NLU)tasks. Many methods using BERT as the pre-trained model achieve state-of-the-art performance in almost various text classification scenarios. Among them, the multitask learning framework combining the negative supervision and the pre-trained model solves the issue of the model performance degradation that occurs as the semantic similarity of texts conflicts with the classification standards. The current model does not consider the degree of difference between labels, which leads to insufficient difference information learned by the model, and affects classification performance, especially in the rating classification tasks. On the basis of the multi-task learning model, this paper fully considers the degree of difference between labels, which is expressed by using weights to solve the above problems. We supervise negative samples on the classifier layer instead of the encoder layer, so that the classifier layer can also learn the difference information between the labels. Experimental results show that our model can not only performs well in 2-class and multi-class rating text classification tasks, but also performs well in different languages.

An Integrated Fusion Framework for Ensemble Learning Leveraging Gradient-Boosting and Fuzzy Rule-Based Models

The integration of different learning paradigms has long been a focus of machine learning research, aimed at overcoming the inherent limitations of individual methods. Fuzzy rule-based models excel in interpretability and have seen widespread application across diverse fields. However, they face challenges such as complex design specifications and scalability issues with large datasets. The fusion of different techniques and strategies, particularly gradient boosting, with fuzzy rule-based models offers a robust solution to these challenges. This article proposes an integrated fusion framework that merges the strengths of both paradigms to enhance model performance and interpretability. At each iteration, a fuzzy rule-based model is constructed and controlled by a dynamic factor to optimize its contribution to the overall ensemble. This control factor serves multiple purposes: it prevents model dominance, encourages diversity, acts as a regularization parameter, and provides a mechanism for dynamic tuning based on model performance, thus mitigating the risk of overfitting. Additionally, the framework incorporates a sample-based correction mechanism that allows for adaptive adjustments based on feedback from a validation set. Experimental results substantiate the efficacy of the presented gradient-boosting framework for fuzzy rule-based models, demonstrating performance enhancement, especially in terms of mitigating overfitting and complexity typically associated with many rules. By leveraging an optimal factor to govern the contribution of each model, the framework improves performance, maintains interpretability, and simplifies the maintenance and update of the models. © 2024 IEEE.

Sequential DeepFake detection is an emerging task that predicts the manipulation sequence in order. Existing methods typically formulate it as an image-to-sequence problem, employing conventional Transformer architectures. However, these methods lack dedicated design and consequently result in limited performance. As such, this paper describes a new Transformer design, called TSOM, by exploring three perspectives: Texture, Shape, and Order of Manipulations. Our method features four major improvements: we describe a new texture-aware branch that effectively captures subtle manipulation traces with a Diversiform Pixel Difference Attention module. Then we introduce a Multi-source Cross-attention module to seek deep correlations among spatial and sequential features, enabling effective modeling of complex manipulation traces. To further enhance the cross-attention, we describe a Shape-guided Gaussian mapping strategy, providing initial priors of the manipulation shape. Finally, observing that the subsequent manipulation in a sequence may influence traces left in the preceding one, we intriguingly invert the prediction order from forward to backward, leading to notable gains as expected. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our method outperforms others by a large margin, highlighting the superiority of our method. © 2025 IEEE.

Federated Learning (FL) is an emerging privacy-preserving distributed computing paradigm that enables numerous clients to collaboratively train machine learning models without the need for transmitting the private datasets of clients to the FL server. Unlike most existing research where the local datasets of clients are considered to be unchanging over time during the whole FL process, we consider such scenarios in this paper where the local datasets of clients need to be updated periodically, and the server can stimulate clients to use as fresh as possible datasets to train their local models. Our objective is to determine a client selection strategy to minimize the loss of global model for FL with a limited budget. To this end, we leverage the concept of Age of Information (AoI) to quantify the freshness of local datasets and theoretically analyze the convergence bound of our AoI-aware FL system. Based on the convergence bound, we formalize our problem as a restless multi-armed bandit problem. Then, we devise a Whittle's-Index-based Client Selection algorithm, called WICS, to tackle the client selection problem. Extensive simulations show that the proposed algorithm can reduce the training loss and improve learning accuracy compared to state-of-the-art algorithms. © 2023 IEEE.

Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have shown promising results in various tasks, but their ability to perceive the visual world with deep, hierarchical understanding similar to humans remains uncertain. To address this gap, we introduce CONSTRUCTURE, a novel concept-level benchmark to assess MLLMs' hierarchical concept understanding and reasoning abilities. Our goal is to evaluate MLLMs across four key aspects: 1) Understanding atomic concepts at different levels of abstraction;2) Performing upward abstraction reasoning across concepts;3) Achieving downward concretization reasoning across concepts;and 4) Conducting multi-hop reasoning between sibling or common ancestor concepts. Our findings indicate that even state-of-the-art multimodal models struggle with concept structure reasoning (e.g., GPT-4o averages a score of 62.1%). We summarize key findings of MLLMs in concept structure reasoning evaluation. Morever, we provide key insights from experiments using CoT prompting and fine-tuning to enhance their abilities. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.
