This work investigates using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and VGGNet architecture, for realtime emotion detection. Raw data from the FER-2013 dataset is transformed from CSV format into organized image directories, segmented by distinct emotions. The resulting model, equipped with convolutional, pooling, and dense layers, effectively classifies emotions from 48x48 grayscale images. In application, the model overlays detected emotions onto a webcam stream. An integrated music player module synchronizes music with the subject's emotions. Overall, this research explores a comprehensive interactive system focused on recognizing and responding to human emotions. Without further training data, our model, to the best of our understanding, achieves modern single-network accuracy of 74.57% on FER2013 © 2024 IEEE.

Due to privacy and security concerns, recent advancements in group fairness advocate for model training regardless of demographic information. However, most methods still require prior knowledge of demographics. In this study, we explore the potential for achieving fairness without compromising its utility when no prior demographics are provided to the training set, namely harmless Rawlsian fairness. We ascertain that such a fairness requirement with no prior demographic information essential promotes training losses to exhibit a Dirac delta distribution. To this end, we propose a simple but effective method named VFair to minimize the variance of training losses inside the optimal set of empirical losses. This problem is then optimized by a tailored dynamic update approach that operates in both loss and gradient dimensions, directing the model towards relatively fairer solutions while preserving its intact utility. Our experimental findings indicate that regression tasks, which are relatively unexplored from literature, can achieve significant fairness improvement through VFair regardless of any prior, whereas classification tasks usually do not because of their quantized utility measurements. Vast amount of online conversations are produced on a daily basis, resulting in a pressing need to automatic conversation understanding. As a basis to structure a discussion, we identify the responding relations in the conversation discourse, which link response utterances to their initiations. To figure out who responded to whom, here we explore how the consistency of topic contents and dependency of discourse roles indicate such interactions, whereas most prior work ignore the effects of latent factors underlying word occurrences. We propose a neural model to learn latent topics and discourse in word distributions, and predict pairwise initiation-response links via exploiting topic consistency and discourse dependency. Experimental results on both English and Chinese conversations show that our model significantly outperforms the previous state of the arts. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics

In this paper, we study semi-supervised graph classification, which aims at accurately predicting the categories of graphs in scenarios with limited labeled graphs and abundant unlabeled graphs. Despite the promising capability of graph neural networks (GNNs), they typically require a large number of costly labeled graphs, while a wealth of unlabeled graphs fail to be effectively utilized. Moreover, GNNs are inherently limited to encoding local neighborhood information using message-passing mechanisms, thus lacking the ability to model higher-order dependencies among nodes. To tackle these challenges, we propose a Hypergraph-Enhanced DuAL framework named HEAL for semi-supervised graph classification, which captures graph semantics from the perspective of the hypergraph and the line graph, respectively. Specifically, to better explore the higher-order relationships among nodes, we design a hypergraph structure learning to adaptively learn complex node dependencies beyond pairwise relations. Meanwhile, based on the learned hypergraph, we introduce a line graph to capture the interaction between hyperedges, thereby better mining the underlying semantic structures. Finally, we develop a relational consistency learning to facilitate knowledge transfer between the two branches and provide better mutual guidance. Extensive experiments on real-world graph datasets verify the effectiveness of the proposed method against existing state-of-the-art methods. Copyright 2024 by the author(s)

Scheduling multi-tenant cloud workflow tasks with resource reliability

Resource reliability is crucial in scheduling workflow instances for different tenants. Both cloud resource reliability and precedence constraints in workflows bring about great challenges for these kinds of scheduling problems. In this paper, we construct a hybrid resource reliability model which is adaptively evaluated in every time window. The objective is to optimize the QoS(quality of service) for tenants which is measured by the introduced AISE(all instance success entropy) index. A scheduling algorithmic framework is proposed for the studied workflows which consider cloud resource reliability. Deadline and budget division(BD) methods are presented to divide deadlines and budgets of instances into those of tasks. A tenant sequence method is developed to determine the order of tenants. A task allocation strategy is investigated to schedule tasks that are ready to appropriate available resources. Parameters and algorithm component candidates are statistically calibrated over a comprehensive set of random instances using the analysis of variance technique. The performance of the proposed algorithm is also evaluated in practical instances.

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is rapidly driving a new phase of artificial intelligence revolution, marked by various applications such as ChatGPT, Sora and DeepSeek. With powerful capabilities in content generation, personalization and user interaction, GenAI can drive significant enhancements in various mobile services to satisfy individual user preferences. Meanwhile, mobile services offer substantial support for accessibility, functionality and intelligence of GenAI applications. However, current research on integrating GenAI and mobile services remains nascent, lacking necessary theoretical and technical support. In this survey, we break down a new vision to guide research on integrating GenAI and mobile services, aiming to improve 6G intelligence levels and enable 6G mobile networks to support the integration of GenAI and mobile services effectively. We begin by examining the necessity of integrating GenAI with 6G mobile services and exploring potential learning architectures of GenAI models within mobile networks. Next, we analyze potential solutions from two perspectives: how 6G mobile networks empower GenAI and how GenAI enables mobile services. We subsequently explore a promising use case, along with essential features and techniques, to facilitate the integration of GenAI and mobile services. Finally, we discuss future research directions, aiming at realizing intelligent 6G networks. © 2015 IEEE.

Most sequential recommendation (SR) systems employing graph neural networks (GNNs) only model a user's interaction sequence as a flat graph without hierarchy, overlooking diverse factors in the user's preference. Moreover, the timespan between interacted items is not sufficiently utilized by previous models, restricting SR performance gains. To address these problems, we propose a novel SR system employing a hierarchical graph neural network (HGNN) to model factorial user preferences. Specifically, a timespan-aware sequence graph (TSG) for the target user is first constructed with the timespan among interacted items. Next, all original nodes in TSG are softly clustered into factor nodes, each of which represents a certain factor of the user's preference. At last, all factor nodes' representations are used together to predict SR results. Our extensive experiments upon two datasets justify that our HGNN-based factorial user modeling obtains better SR performance than the state-of-the-art SR models. © 2022 IEEE.

Multifunctional therapeutic peptides(MFTP)hold immense potential in diverse therapeutic contexts,yet their prediction and identification remain challenging due to the limitations of traditional methodologies,such as extensive training durations,limited sample sizes,and inadequate generalization *** address these issues,we present AMHF-TP,an advanced method for MFTP recognition that utilizes attention mechanisms and multi-granularity hierarchical features to enhance *** AMHF-TP is composed of four key components:a migration learning module that leverages pretrained models to extract atomic compositional features of MFTP sequences;a convolutional neural network and selfattention module that refine feature extraction from amino acid sequences and their secondary structures;a hypergraph module that constructs a hypergraph for complex similarity representation between MFTP sequences;and a hierarchical feature extraction module that integrates multimodal peptide sequence *** with leading methods,the proposed AMHF-TP demonstrates superior precision,accuracy,and coverage,underscoring its effectiveness and robustness in MFTP *** comparative analysis of separate hierarchical models and the combined model,as well as with five contemporary models,reveals AMHFTP’s exceptional performance and stability in recognition tasks.
