Early-cycle prediction of battery aging onset across chemistries

Accurately predicting the knee point cycle number,marking the onset of accelerated capacity degradation,is the first critical signal for managing lithium-ion battery life cycles in electric vehicles and stationary energy storage ***,the inherent electrochemo-mechanical-thermal complexities of battery aging present significant challenges for physics-based models and machine-learning models,often leading to reduced predictive *** study developed a comprehensive dataset comprising 20 lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide(NCM)/graphite cells(0.5-1 C) from our lab and 162 commercial lithium iron phosphate(LFP)/graphite cells(3-6 C) from the public database,with knee point observed between 100 and 1000 *** proposed a new strategy to extract novel features with strong physical context from early-cycle voltage curves,enabling precise knee point predictions across the chemistries without the need for extensive cycling *** model achieved a mean absolute percentage error(MAPE) of 7% for knee point prediction using five selected ***,the model yielded 8% MAPE with only one single feature across the initial 200 cycles,and 10% MAPE when applying five features across the initial 50 cycles,spanning different battery *** work highlights the potential of integrating multi-chemistry datasets with data-driven modeling to forecast aging patterns across diverse battery chemistries,advancing battery longevity and reliability.

An intelligent emotion recognition system based on electroencephalography(EEG)signals shows considerable potential in various domains such as healthcare,entertainment,and education,thanks to its portability,high temporal resolution,and real-time ***,the existing research in this field faces limitations stemming from the nonstationary nature and individual variability of EEG *** this study,we present a novel EEG emotion recognition model,named GraphEmotionNet,designed to enhance the accuracy of EEG-based emotion recognition through the incorporation of a spatiotemporal attention mechanism and transfer *** proposed GraphEmotionNet model can effectively learn the intrinsic connections between EEG channels and construct an adaptive *** graph’s adaptive nature is crucial in optimizing spatial-temporal graph convolutions,which in turn enhances spatial-temporal feature characterization and contributes to the process of emotion ***,an integration of domain adaptation aligns the extracted features across different domains,further alleviating the impact of individual EEG *** evaluate the model performance on two benchmark databases,employing two types of cross-validation protocols:within-subject cross-validation and cross-subject *** experimental results affirm the model’s efficacy in extracting EEG features linked to emotional semantics and demonstrate its promising performance in emotion recognition.

Combining multiple modalities carrying complementary information through multimodal learning (MML) has shown considerable benefits for diagnosing multiple pathologies. However, the robustness of multimodal models to missing modalities is often overlooked. Most works assume modality completeness in the input data, while in clinical practice, it is common to have incomplete modalities. Existing solutions that address this issue rely on modality imputation strategies before using supervised learning models. These strategies, however, are complex, computationally costly and can strongly impact subsequent prediction models. Hence, they should be used with parsimony in sensitive applications such as healthcare. We propose HyperMM, an end-to-end framework designed for learning with varying-sized inputs. Specifically, we focus on the task of supervised MML with missing imaging modalities without using imputation before training. We introduce a novel strategy for training a universal feature extractor using a conditional hypernetwork, and propose a permutation-invariant neural network that can handle inputs of varying dimensions to process the extracted features, in a two-phase task-agnostic framework. We experimentally demonstrate the advantages of our method in two tasks: Alzheimer’s disease detection and breast cancer classification. We demonstrate that our strategy is robust to high rates of missing data and that its flexibility allows it to handle varying-sized datasets beyond the scenario of missing modalities. PKEST: Public-Key Encryption With Similarity Test for Medical Consortia Cloud Computing

Cloud computing eliminates the limitations of local hardware architecture while also enabling rapid data sharing between healthcare institutions. Encryption of electronic medical records (EMRs) before uploading to cloud servers is necessary for privacy. However, encryption brings challenges for computation. Public Key Encryption with Equality Test (PKEET) allows cloud servers to test the underlying message equality without decryption. Therefore, it can be used to classify the encrypted EMRs corresponding to different medical symptoms. However, traditional PKEETs have limitations in testing the similarity between the ciphertexts. Undoubtedly, it can not handle EMR classification with similar medical symptoms efficiently. In this work, we propose a lightweight public key encryption with similarity test (PKEST) for the EMR classification shared in medical consortia. Our scheme can resist offline message recovery attacks, which may be launched by the insider manager, and the traditional paring computation is not necessary. Our experiment simulation shows that the similarity error between ciphertext and plaintext is tiny when the parameters are set properly. Compared to previous works, our scheme not only achieves the classification of similar encrypted EMRs but is also more efficient than traditional PKEETs since our construction does not need paring computation anymore. © 2013 IEEE.

Knowledge Leaks in data-Driven Business Models? Exploring Different Types of Knowledge Risks and Protection Measures

data-driven business models imply the inter-organisational exchange of data or similar value objects. data science methods enable organisations to discover patterns and eventually knowledge from data. Further, by training machine learning models, knowledge is materialised in those models. Thus, organisations might risk the exposure of competitive knowledge by sharing data-related value objects, such as data, models or predictions. Although knowledge risks have been studied in traditional business models, little research has been conducted in the direction of data-driven business models. In this explorative qualitative study, we conducted 28 expert interviews in three rounds (two exploratory and one evaluatory) and identified five types of risks along the three basic types of value objects: data, models and predictions. These risks depend on the context, i.e., when competitive knowledge could be discovered from shared value objects. We found that those risks can be mitigated by technology, contractual regulations, trusted relationships, and adjusting the business model design. In this study, we show that the risk of knowledge leakage is a relevant risk factor in data-driven business models. Overall, knowledge risks should be considered already during business model design, and their management requires an interdisciplinary approach via a balanced assessment. The level of knowledge protection from a technology perspective highly depends on computer science innovations and thus is a moving target. As an outlook, we suggest that knowledge risk will become even more relevant with the extensive usage of machine learning and artificial intelligence in data-driven business models. © The Author(s) 2024.

In response to the evolving landscape of healthcare technology this study addresses the need for automated diagnostic tools in the field of ophthalmology. By utilizing deep learning methods specifically leveraging the EfficientNetV2S framework we achieve an overall accuracy rate of 94.6% in classifying images depicting common eye conditions like cataract, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and normal cases. Our model exhibits capabilities across a diverse spectrum of medical conditions due to meticulous preprocessing and fine-tuning procedures. The results highlight the potential for automated technology integration in healthcare settings, which might improve patient care and treatment plans. This paper highlights the use of advanced neural network designs in the diagnosis of ocular illnesses, offering insights at the nexus of learning and medical image processing. © 2024 IEEE.

The Vision Transformer (ViT) model serves as a powerful model to capture and comprehend global information, particularly when trained on extensive datasets. Conversely, the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model is beneficial to training with small datasets for retaining essential local information. Inspired by these properties of ViT and CNN models, we introduce a hybrid framework that smoothly increases the cross-domain generalization in Semi-supervised Domain Adaptation (SSDA). To achieve this goal, we first train the ViT model on abundant labeled source data, while the CNN model is trained on a few labeled target samples. Then, these models dynamically exchange their knowledge for potential generalization to unlabeled target data via the proposed method, named Dual Dynamic Consistency Regularization (D2CR). Specifically, the ViT model provides its pseudo labels to update the global perspective for the CNN model. Similarly, the CNN model offers pseudo labels to complement the local perspective for the ViT model. The previous methods use a fixed threshold algorithm for the pseudo-labeling process. However, we utilize the dynamic threshold strategy to create pseudo labels for the bi-directional consistency regularization learning between the ViT and CNN models. We verify our approach across several SSDA benchmark datasets. The outstanding experimental results provide strong evidence of the effectiveness and superiority of our approach over previous state-of-the-art SSDA methods. © 2013 IEEE.

In the evolving landscape of human-computer interaction, this paper introduces an innovative framework poised to revolutionize chatbot systems. Our framework, meticulously designed for emotionally aware multimodal chatbots, seamlessly integrates real-time face and emotion recognition with natural language processing. Currently in the developmental phase, the framework exhibits a distinctive proficiency in executing a diverse array of human instructions. These instructions span tasks such as generating detailed captions, object counting, and responding to general queries. Leveraging parameter-efficient fine-tuning from OpenFlamingo, augmented by the inclusion of the Low-rank Adapter (LoRA), our framework strategically prioritizes versatility and operational efficiency. The core of our approach lies in the establishment of instruction templates that intricately merge both vision and language data. This strategic integration forms the backbone of our multi-modality instruction tuning methodology, enhancing the adaptability of the chatbot. Recognizing the pivotal role of high-quality training data, we emphasize its significance in shaping the dialogue performance of the chatbot. As the framework progresses through its developmental stages, this research lays a robust foundation for the creation of a versatile conversational agent. The envisioned applications of this agent range from enhancing customer service experiences to providing valuable support in mental health scenarios. © 2024 IEEE.

INTRODUCTION The manufacturing industry has evolved from traditional forging and cutting to three-dimensional(3D)printing,a revolutionary technology that expands human imagination by creating everything of complex shapes and intricate structures,making it a cornerstone of smart manufacturing.1 However,conventional fabrications may encounter bottlenecks that seriously restrict their printing across different inks,ambient,and *** existing 3D printing methods to produce target functional components on diverse working media,therefore,requires significant *** highly adaptable 3D printing inks,liquid metals(LMs)open large spaces to address such challenges due to their versatile capabilities,such as fluidities,conductivities,easy solid-liquid transitions,and *** continuous efforts are being increasingly made in LM printing in different media,2 there is still no generalized methodology or concept proposed to unite all LM 3D printing techniques,inks,and media *** achieve this intriguing target,here we present a unified 3D printing concept,termed pan-media liquid metal 3D printing,to manufacture customized end-user devices as ***-media 3D printing means that it is able to administrate printing with any ink and any working ambient,from gases and liquids to soft matters,bio-tissues,and rigid media,transcending the boundaries of traditional printing ***,with intentionally introduced physical or chemical processing between LM inks and ambient,pan-media LM 3D printing could achieve a much wider variety of 3D object and targeted functions over existing *** synthesizing the pan-media theory of LM 3D printing,we prospect a pan-media manufacturing center equipped with functional ink storage,media library,printing head system,and control units,all integrated to fully address the desired printing tasks.

Dear Editor,Dummy attack(DA), a deep stealthy but impactful data integrity attack on power industrial control processes, is recently recognized as hiding the corrupted measurements in normal measurements. In this letter, targeting a more practical case, we aim to detect the oneshot DA, with the purpose of revealing the DA once it is ***, we first formulate an optimization problem to generate one-shot DAs. Then, an unsupervised data-driven approach based on a modified local outlier factor(MLOF) is proposed to detect them.
