Sleep posture identification is crucial for accurately assessing sleep quality and diagnosing related diseases. In the realm of non-intrusive sleep monitoring, non-contact technologies are becoming increasingly mainstream. Millimeter-wave radar is frequently utilized in sleep posture identification due to its high resolution, strong penetration, and excellent sensitivity. However, traditional radar-based methods for sleep posture identification often struggle with reliability when dealing with diverse individuals and complex sleep environments. To address these challenges, we propose UniSleepPos, which designs a novel dual-view fusion mechanism to integrate depression and elevation angle signals obtained from radar, thus accurately capturing the posture information of the monitored subject in three-dimensional space. Furthermore, we combine sleep posture identification with individual characteristics, utilizing existing individual labels as prior knowledge to assist in sleep posture identification. The integration of prior knowledge provides a valuable information source for the model, helping to enhance its understanding of the data and improve its performance. We collected sleep posture data from eight volunteers using millimeter-wave radar devices under various environmental conditions. Leave-one-subject-out experiments were conducted to validate the effectiveness of UniSleepPos. The results indicated that UniSleepPos significantly outperforms existing methods, demonstrating its potential for practical applications. © 2024 IEEE.

An Evolutionary Multitasking Algorithm for Efficient Multiobjective Recommendations

Represented by evolutionary algorithms and swarm intelligence algorithms, nature-inspired metaheuristics have been successfully applied to recommender systems and amply demonstrated effectiveness, in particular, for multiobjective recommendation. Owing to the population-based search paradigm, these algorithms can produce a number of recommendation lists, making diverse tradeoffs between multiple metrics and meeting the requirements of accuracy, novelty, diversity, and other user preferences. However, these algorithms are criticized for the low efficiency of the optimization process, especially when the number of users is large. To address this issue, this article proposes an evolutionary multitasking-based recommendation method, where each task corresponds to a user and all the tasks are optimized simultaneously, thus highly improving the efficiency of recommendation. To enhance the convergence speed, all the users are divided into multiple populations according to the similarity between their preferences, where each population evolves with internal knowledge transfer between users, and all the populations evolve with external knowledge transfer between populations. Experimental results on various datasets verify that the proposed method can better balance between multiple metrics than classical and deep neural network-based recommendation methods and exhibits significantly higher efficiency than evolutionary multiobjective optimization-based recommendation methods. © 2024 IEEE. The intellectual and immense attainment of a smart city and auto-mobile vehicles are gradually growing. This growth drives Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET), a broadly operated complex network for inter-vehicular transmission to acquire information relevant to the vehicle location, road condition, traffic congestion, and speed. Generally, this information is procured through an open-source communication, which is susceptible to various security threats. In broad terms, the privacy of data in VANET is considered an imperative task. In this regard, many authentication protocols are formerly initiated for VANET. Most of these protocols are precarious owing to eavesdropping, replay, and impersonation attacks, etc. Furthermore, most existing protocols operates on enormous communication and computation rate, which turns them inadequate for VANET. This paper exhibits a lightweight privacy-preserving authentication protocol for n number of vehicles in VANET using the physical unclonable function (PUF) technique, and offers efficient and secure communication via public channels. Moreover, we evaluate our protocol formally and informally, showing that it is scalable, lightweight, and safe compared to formerly protocols. The rate of computation and communication is less than most related protocols. We also simulate the proposed scheme using the NS-3 simulator to measure its various network performance parameters. As a result, it is apparent through the beheld statistics that the presented protocol is beyond practical, efficient, and reliable for the secure dissemination of information in VANET. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Spatiotemporal deformation analysis of glaciers and surrounding landscapes in the Shishapangma region using InSAR techniques

Glacier dynamics in the Himalayan midlatitudes,particularly in regions like the Shishapangma,are not yet fully understood,especially the localized topographic and climatic impacts on glacier *** study analyzes the spatiotemporal characteristics of glacier surface deformation in the Shishapangma region using the Small Baseline Subset(SBAS)Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar(In SAR)*** analysis reveals an average deformation rate of-4.02±17.65 mm/yr across the entire study area,with glacier regions exhibiting significantly higher rates of uplift(16.87±13.20 mm/yr)and subsidence(20.11±14.55 mm/yr)compared to non-glacier *** identifies significant surface lowering on the mountain flanks and localized uplift in certain catchments,emphasizing the higher deformation rates in glacial areas compared to non-glacial *** found a strong positive correlation between temperature and cumulative deformation(correlation coefficient of 0.63),particularly in glacier areas(0.82).The research highlights the role of temperature as the primary driver of glacier wastage,particularly at lower elevations,with strong correlations found between temperature and cumulative *** also indicates the complex interactions between topographic features,notably,slope gradient,which shows a positive correlation with subsidence rates,especially for slopes below 35°.South-,southwest-,and west-facing slopes exhibit significant uplift,while north-,northeast-,and east-facing slopes predominantly ***,we identified transition zones between debris-covered glaciers and clean ice as areas of most intense deformation,with average rates exceeding 30 mm/yr,highlighting these as potential high-risk zones for *** study comprehensively analyzes the deformation characteristics in both glacier and non-glacier areas in the Shishapangma region,revealing the complex interplay of topographic,climatic,and hydrological factors influencing glacier dynamic

Facial expression recognition under occlusion conditions based on multi-feature cross-attention

Although facial expression recognition (FER) has a wide range of applications, it may be difficult to achieve under local occlusion conditions which may result in the loss of valuable expression features. This issue has motivated the present study, as a part of which an effective multi-feature cross-attention network (MFCA-Net) is proposed. The MFCA-Net consists of a two-branch network comprising a multi-feature convolution module and a local cross-attention module. Thus, it enables decomposition of facial features into multiple sub-features by the multi-feature convolution module to reduce the impact of local occlusion on facial expression feature extraction. In the next step, the local cross-attention module distinguishes between occluded and unoccluded sub-features and focuses on the latter to facilitate FER. When the MFCA-Net performance is evaluated by applying it to three public large-scale datasets (RAF-DB, FERPlus, and AffectNet), the experimental results confirm its good robustness. Further validation is performed on a real FER dataset with local occlusion of the face. © 2024 – IOS Press.

Deep learning advances neural decoding in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) tasks with convolution and attention-based methods. However, these methods struggle with capturing global spatiotemporal information due to high dimensionality, noise and inter-individual difference of fMRI, which also increase computational complexity and prior bias. To this end, a novel causal state space model, Causal fMRI-Mamba, is proposed for neural decoding and task state mapping. It effectively captures global spatiotemporal information via eliminating local redundancies and capturing long-distance dependencies. Meanwhile, a causal representation framework is designed to extract invariant high-order features and disentangle related causal features, enhancing model performance. Furthermore, a dense connection module is expanded to prevent significant causal information loss in hidden states of inter layers. On the HCP brain task state classification task, Causal fMRI-Mamba achieves better performance and generalization than comparison methods. © 2025 IEEE.

Image classification is challenging due to the high dimensionality and large variations of the image data. As an effective method in image classification, feature learning can be considered a multiobjective problem of maximizing the classification accuracy and minimizing the number of learned features. Existing multi-objective genetic programming (MOGP) methods directly apply the multiobjective techniques to GP without considering the characteristics of feature learning tasks. Therefore, this paper proposes a decomposition-based MOGP approach with a global replacement strategy to feature learning in image classification. The proposed approach is compared with existing MOGP methods and the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The rapid development of multi-modal large language models (MLLMs) has positioned visual storytelling as a crucial area in content creation. However, existing models often struggle to maintain temporal, spatial, and narrative coherence across image sequences and frequently lack the depth and engagement of human-authored stories. To address these challenges, we propose Story with Large Language and Vision Assistant (StoryLLaVA), a novel framework for enhancing visual storytelling. Our approach introduces a Topic-Driven Narrative Optimizer (TDNO) that improves both the training data and MLLM models by integrating image descriptions, topic generation, and GPT-4-based refinements. Furthermore, we employ a preference-based ranked story sampling method that aligns model outputs with human storytelling preferences through positive-negative pairing. These two phases of the framework differ in their training methods: the former uses supervised fine-tuning, while the latter incorporates reinforcement learning with positive and negative sample pairs. Experimental results demonstrate that StoryLLaVA outperforms current models in visual relevance, coherence, and fluency, with LLM-based evaluations confirming the generation of richer and more engaging narratives.
