The ability to realize an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) to improve driver safety has attracted huge interests from researchers this decade. Vehicular Communication covering vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to- infrastructure (V2I) communication supported by ITS provide ubiquitous internet connectivity among the vehicles to improve safety for drivers. In addition to carrying driver safety messages, such as emergency warning messages, accident alerts and road work messages, multi-hop routing carrying the information for driver's comfort such as long route traffic information, on road advertisements and parking assistance are also an important and challenging task in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET). This paper presents a multi-hop long range transmission of packets among the vehicles on the basis of reduced transmission hops by choosing the most suitable vehicle within the transmission range for packet transmission. The algorithm proposed in this paper, Fastest Multi-Hop Routing Scheme (FMHR) is evaluated based on incoming and outgoing throughput and compared with another multi-hop transmission algorithm [6] using different radio access technology. The simulation environment used for the evaluation of proposed algorithm is NCTUns-6.0.

Determining event ordering has always been a crucial issue in distributed computing. A well known model for describing event ordering is the happened-before relation. However, the traditional happened-before relation model is i-nadequate to faithfully characterize event ordering in recent emerging mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), which usually have no fixed supporting infrastructure and may experience dynamic network topology changes. In this paper, we first propose a new relation, called the extended-happenedbefore relation, to model the ordering of events for a MANET. Then we present an algorithm to assign logical time to events such that the extendedhappened-before relation between events can be decided by comparing their tunestamps. We finally show how to construct consistent global snapshots in a MANET when the ordering of events can be determined.

Product design education has been one of the most exciting and vibrant study paths in the last two decades. It presents students the opportunity to develop their skills and talents to create innovative and effective product solutions. However, should a design student wish to obtain greater experience within the university curricula, their experience could be improved by an engagement with industry during their studies. This in turn enhances portfolio diversity and employment prospects. Discussed in this paper is a case study whereby a large scale commercial input to undergraduate students over a two year period allowed them to create products which were innovative yet highly sensitive to the needs of industry. The projects also saw students from two different years of academic study engage with each other in a team working format to enhance the learning experience. By engaging student cohorts from different levels of study, this created peer assisted learning opportunities. Any company which chooses to undertake an engagement with a body of design students not only gains creative input to their organisation but also the ability to help influence and inspire product design students of the future. This paper demonstrates through discussion of a case study conducted from 2008 & 2009 how an ongoing industrial engagement not only provided the means for a large scale creative input but also provided a massive peer assisted learning exercise between multiple year design students. Ultimately, the engaged company, the academic institution and most importantly the students all gain from this symbiosis.

This work presents an application of the novel theory of rule based networks for building models of processes characterised by uncertainty, non-linearity, modular structure and internal interactions. The application of the theory is demonstrated for a flotation process in the context of converting a multiple rule based system into an equivalent single rule based system by linguistic composition of the individual rule bases. During the conversion process, the transparency of the multiple rule based system is fully preserved while its accuracy is improved to a level comparable with the accuracy of the single rule based system.
