The fields of music, health, and technology have seen significant interactions in recent years in developing music technology for health care and well-being. In an effort to strengthen the collaboration between the involved disciplines, the workshop “Music, computing, and Health” was held to discuss best practices and state-of-the-art at the intersection of these areas with researchers from music psychology and neuroscience, music therapy, music information retrieval, music technology, medical technology (medtech), and robotics. Following the discussions at the workshop, this article provides an overview of the different methods of the involved disciplines and their potential contributions to developing music technology for health and well-being. Furthermore, the article summarizes the state of the art in music technology that can be applied in various health scenarios and provides a perspective on challenges and opportunities for developing music technology that (1) supports person-centered care and evidence-based treatments, and (2) contributes to developing standardized, large-scale research on music-based interventions in an interdisciplinary manner. The article provides a resource for those seeking to engage in interdisciplinary research using music-based computational methods to develop technology for health care, and aims to inspire future research directions by evaluating the state of the art with respect to the challenges facing each field. © The Author(s) 2021.

In this study, the effects of epoxidized natural rubber (ENR-50) as compatibilizer on the properties of Standard Malaysian Rubber/Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (SMR L/EPDM) blend were investigated. Standard Malaysian Rubber/Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer/Epoxidized Natural Rubber (SMR L/EPDM/ENR-50) blends were prepared by two-roll mill with five different compositions (i.e., 80/20/0, 80/20/1, 80/20/3, 80/20/5, 80/20/7 and 80/20/10), which the (SMR L/EPDM) content fixed at 80/20 which is the optimum ratio for (SMR L/EPDM) depending on our previous study. Cure characteristics, mechanical properties studies were performed to determine the compatibility of SMR L/EPDM blends in the presence of ENR-50 as a compatibilizer. The optimum cure characteristics showed by SMR L/EPDM blends with the presence of ENR-50, which lower scorch time t2 and cure time t90 and increase the cure rate index CRI. In addition, SMR L/EPDM blends with the presence of ENR-50 have improved the physical properties such as swelling test, crosslink density and hardness test.

Recently, due to the dual roles of DNA and enzyme, DNAzyme has been widely used in the field of DNA circuit, which has a wide range of applications in bio-engineered system, information processing and biocomputing. In fact, the activity of DNAzymes was regulated by subunits assembly, pH control and metal ions triggers. However, those regulations required to change the sequences of whole DNAzyme, as separating parts and inserting extra DNA sequence. Inspired by the allosteric regulation of proteins in nature, a new allosteric strategy is proposed to regulate the activity of DNAzyme without DNA sequences changes. In this strategy, DNA strand displacement was used to regulate the DNAzyme structure, through which the activity of DNAzyme was well controlled. The strategy was applied to E6-type DNAzymes, and the operations of DNA logic circuit (YES, OR, AND, cascading and feedback) were established and simulated with the dynamic analyses. The allosteric regulation has potential to construct more complicated molecular systems, which can be applied to bio-sensing and detection.

A Simple Modeling Framework For Prediction In The Human Glucose-Insulin System

In this paper, we build a new, simple, and interpretable mathematical model to estimate and forecast physiology related to the human glucose-insulin system, constrained by available data. By constructing a simple yet flexible model class with interpretable parameters, this general model can be specialized to work in different settings, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and intensive care unit (ICU);different choices of appropriate model functions describing uptake of nutrition and removal of glucose differentiate between the models. In addition to data-driven decision-making, the model has the potential also to be useful for the basic quantification of endocrine physiology. In both cases, the available data is sparse and collected in clinical settings, major factors that have constrained our model choice to the simple form adopted. The model has the form of a linear stochastic differential equation (SDE) to describe the evolution of the BG level. The model includes a term quantifying glucose removal from the bloodstream through the regulation system of the human body and two other terms representing the effect of nutrition and externally delivered insulin. The stochastic fluctuations encapsulate model error necessitated by the simple model form and enable flexible incorporation of data. The parameters entering the equation must be learned in a patient-specific fashion, leading to personalized models. We present experimental results on patient-specific parameter estimation and future BG level forecasting in T2DM and ICU settings. The resulting model leads to the prediction of the BG level as an expected value accompanied by a band around this value which accounts for uncertainties in the prediction. Such predictions, then, have the potential for use as part of control systems that are robust to model imperfections and noisy data. In this research, the effect of different sodium hydroxide (NaOH) concentration (3, 6 and 9 wt.%) on the tensile properties of linear low density polyethylene / date seeds (LLDPE/DS) composites were investigated. The size of DS particles was measured at (125 - 250 m) and the ratio of LLDPE over DS was fixed at 90/10 wt.%. The samples were prepared using extrusion process (screw speed at 60 rpm and barrel and die temperature at 160 C and 165 C respectively) followed by injection moulding process (from feed to exit die zone temperature at 160, 165, 170 and 175 C respectively). Results suggest that the addition of NaOH particularly 3 wt% has improved the tensile strength. Additionally, the elongation at break has improved as well. However, the high concentration of NaOH, particularly 9 wt.% effects negatively on these properties. In contrast, the Modulus shows different trend, which increased as NaOH concentration increased in the composites. The SEM section shows the improvement on DS surface as low NaOH concentration used (3 wt.%) and deterioration on the DS surface as high NaOH concentration used (9 wt.%).

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) identifies speed optimization as a key operational measure for achieving energy efficiency through reduced emissions. Ocean Liner services have fixed port rotations and schedules. While the speed can be optimized for emissions, the service level in terms of schedules arrival and departure need to be carefully considered not to loose market share. This already challenging problem is further complicated when dynamic weather conditions along the service route are considered. In fact, few contributions can be found that address this issue. We study the operational problem of dynamically determining a vessel's speed, departure time and arrival time at each port of call under dynamic weather conditions. We model the minimization of cost, namely bunkering costs and early and delayed departure and arrival penalties, using calculus of variations. The proposed algorithm leverages upon a discretization technique based on the Weierstrass-Erdmann condition. The numerical tests show the efficiency and effectiveness of this algorithm over standard techniques like IVP. Copyright © 2017 by MTEC 2017 Organizers.

The cell nuclei segmentation of is a challenging task in microscopy image analysis. The problems of noise, small cell nuclei, and few training data samples in the data set will all affect the effectiveness of the model to varying degrees. This paper presents a new approach to nuclear image segmentation based on convolutional neural networks. Our approach is based on Mask R-CNN with some modification, which combines low-level semantic features for model training. In order to make the model specific to each low-level feature map, the attention mechanism was used to assign weights to each low-level feature map, making the model learning more purposeful. Our method achieves an average precision value of 62.8%, which is 2.7% higher than that of the Mask R-CNN (ResNet50) basic model and 6.3% of the Mask R-CNN (ResNet101) basic model.

This study is to evaluate the passenger evacuation of the high-speed train. Geometry was built up based on current Chinese train type CRH380B, and scenarios were designed according to the current emergency response plans. Simulation runs were performed by Pathfinder and uncertainty of evacuation time was obtained. It is observed that the passenger flow rates in train coaches are generally stable. Passenger transfer time and evacuation time are approximately proportional to passenger attendance rate. However, in some complicated scenarios, it is found that the process of passenger transfer affects the evacuation results a lot. Reasonable passenger transfer scale can maximize the effectiveness of emergency plans. This study provides an evaluation method on the topic of train car evacuation, and future work can be carried out to optimize the design of emergency response.

In this work, the influences of different date seeds (DS) size, fine size (125- 250 wn), medium size (250- 500 wn) and coarse size (500, 1000 wn) and different DS content (5, 10, 15, 20 wt%) on the tensile properties of linear low density polyethylene / date seeds (LLDPE/DS) composites were evaluated. The extrusion and injection molding process were used respectively to form LLDPE/DS composites. Results show that the addition of DS up to 10 wt%, particularly DS fine size has increased the tensile strength (TS) of LLDPE/DS composites. However, high DS content, particularly DS coarse size decreased the TS of the composites. The percentage of elongation at break (Eb) decreased while the modulus increased gradually as DS content increased in LLDPE/DS composites, which made the composite stiffer and less flexible. The SEM shows clearly the good distribution of DS fine size and the agglomeration of DS coarse size.

Automatic loop-invariant generation is important in program analysis and verification. In this paper, we propose to generate loop-invariants automatically through learning and verification. Given a Hoare triple of a program containing a loop, we start with randomly testing the program, collect program states at run-time and categorize them based on whether they satisfy the invariant to be discovered. Next, classification techniques are employed to generate a candidate loop-invariant automatically. Afterwards, we refine the candidate through selective sampling so as to overcome the lack of sufficient test cases. Only after a candidate invariant cannot be improved further through selective sampling, we verify whether it can be used to prove the Hoare triple. If it cannot, the generated counterexamples are added as new tests and we repeat the above process. Furthermore, we show that by introducing a path-sensitive learning, i.e., partitioning the program states according to program locations they visit and classifying each partition separately, we are able to learn disjunctive loop-invariants. In order to evaluate our idea, a prototype tool has been developed and the experiment results show that our approach complements existing approaches. © 2017 IEEE.
