Identifying driver pathway is a critical step to uncover the natural laws of the occurrence and progression of disease. Many studies show that multiple pathways often function cooperatively in carcinogenesis. However, how to computationally identify cooperative driver pathways of cancers is not well studied yet. Existing cooperative driver pathway identification methods either suffer from single type of genetic information source or computation difficulty. In this paper, we proposed a method (CDPLP) based on hierarchical clustering and link prediction. CDPLP firstly devises a new similarity metric to quantity the exclusivity and co-expression of two gene modules, and thus to obtain gene sets with exclusivity by hierarchical clustering. Next, it uses link prediction on the pathway-pathway interaction network to replenish the interactions between pathways. After that, CDPLP combines the gene sets and updated pathway network to discover the pathway pairs with high functional interaction and occurrence as cooperative pathways. CDPLP can make full use of multiple genetic information sources such as the mutation data, gene-gene interaction data and pathway-pathway network, and facilitate the optimization solution. We evaluated the performance of CDPLP on TCGA breast cancer (BRCA) dataset and compared it with other popular methods. The results show that cooperative driver pathways identified by CDPLP are highly associated with the target cancer, and are involved with carcinogenesis and several key biological processes.

Blockchain technology has drawn attention from various communities. The underlying consensus mechanism in Blockchain enables a myriad of applications for the integrity assurance of stored data. In this paper, we utilize Blockchain technology to verify the authenticity of a video captured by a streaming IoT device for forensic investigation purposes. The proposed approach computes the hash of video frames before they leave the IoT device and are transferred to a remote base station. To guarantee the transmission, we ensure that this hash is sent through a TCP-based connection. The hash is then stored on multiple nodes on a permissioned blockchain platform. In case the video is modified, the discrepancy will be detected by investigating the previously stored hash on the blockchain and comparing it with the hash of the existing frame in question. In this work, we present the prototype as proof-of-concept with experiment results. The system has been tested on a RaspberryPi with different quality of videos to evaluate performance. The results show that the concept can be implemented with moderate video resolutions.

Finite word-length binary arithmetic used in IIR digital filter coupled form second order sections implements conjugate-pair poles that have uniform pole locations located throughout the z-plane unit circle. When an LFFA IIR adaptive filter is implemented with direct form second order sections, due to high pole sensitivities the effects of arithmetic quantization error vary a great amount as the adaptive algorithm moves poles to different locations in the z-plane. Research results presented in this paper verify that for IIR adaptive filters implemented with coupled form second order sections, arithmetic quantization error effects are not very sensitive to the adaptive filter pole locations.

The roadside units (RSUs) based on traditional grid has high carbon footprint and high deployment cost in vehicle dedicated network. An ideal green alternative has become an important issue in Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs). In this paper, we propose a novel framework of energy harvesting and cooperation to maximize the life cycle in VENETs. In this VANET scenario, the RSU node can harvest energy from the nature and also receive down steam vehicle energy dispatch to maintain the energy needed for data transmission, may transfers a portion of obtained energies by RSU nodes to the neighboring RSU nodes through energy cooperation. Each vehicle can access the RSU in two ways: 1) direct delivery when the vehicle is within the transmission range of the RSU;2) multi-hop relay when the vehicle is not within the transmission range of the RSU. By analysing the data rate, transmission power and energy transmission, we solve the problem of maximum network life cycle in the conservation law of energy and traffic. We consider involving energy constraints and data transmission joint problem, we optimize each RUS nodes energy management over vehicular outgoing data links and its energy transfers to neighboring RSU nodes. For this case, with no energy cooperation, we show that each RSU node should allocate more power to links with more noise and/or more data flow. In addition, when there is energy cooperation, our numerical results indicate that the energy is routed from nodes with higher energy to nodes with lower energy. Simulation results show that energy and data routing cooperation in VANET strategy can effectively improve the network life cycle. © 2019 IEEE.

A low-carbon power system is essential for mitigating climate change, necessitating large-scale energy storage deployment. elec.rochemical energy storage (EES) has distinct advantages and is advancing rapidly. However, the extensive industrial chain of EES raises concerns about the potential socio-economic and environmental risks. Its promotion could face obstacles if key inputs are not available, potentially slowing down the energy transition. Thus, combining the techno-economic characteristics of EES and the macroeconomic input-output (IO) table, a dynamic extended IO-based tiered hybrid model was developed. It was used to assess the direct and indirect industrial chain impacts including capital demand, labor demand and emissions for developing EES under the 2 °C and 1.5 °C climate targets. Lithium-ion battery, lead-carbon battery and flow battery were investigated. The findings indicate that to achieve the targets, the cumulative EES demand in China from 2025 to 2030 will be 61 to 164 times that of the installed capacity in 2020. The cumulative increase in capital demand accounts for 0.5 % ∼ 1.1 % of China's total output in 2020, and the cumulative increase in labor demand accounts for 0.2 % ∼ 0.5 % of China's employed persons. Additionally, the cumulative increase in carbon emissions accounts for 0.4 % ∼ 1 % of that in 2020, and the cumulative increase in industrial waste gas emissions accounts for 0.2 % ∼ 0.5 %. The manufacture of elec.rical machinery and equipment sector is likely to experience the greatest capital and labor shortages, alongside a significant rise in emissions from the smelting and processing of metals sector. Policies that can mitigate industrial chain risks are further proposed.

This paper presents a shallow-transfer machine translation (MT) system for translating from Kazakh to Turkish. Background on the differences between the languages is presented, followed by how the system was designed to handle some of these differences. The system is based on the Apertium free/open-source machine translation platform. The structure of the system and how it works is described, along with an evaluation against two competing systems. Linguistic components were developed, including a Kazakh-Turkish bilingual dictionary, Constraint Grammar disambiguation rules, lexical selec.ion rules, and structural transfer rules. With many known issues yet to be addressed, our RBMT system has reached performance comparable to publicly-available corpus-based MT systems between the languages. © 2018 The authors. In this paper, we explore the effect of the purely quantum mechanical global phase factor on the problem of controlling a ring-shaped quantum router to transfer its excitation from an initial spin to a specified target spin. "Quantum routing" on coherent spin networks is achieved by shaping the energy landscape with static bias control fields, which already results in the nonclassical feature of purely oscillatory closed-loop poles. However, more to the point, it is shown that the global phase factor requires a projective reinterpretation of the traditional tracking error where the wave function state is considered modulo its global phase factor. This results in a time-domain relaxation of the conflict between small tracking error and small sensitivity of the tracking error to structured uncertainties. While fundamentally quantum routing is achieved at a specific final time and hence calls for time-domain techniques, we also develop a projective s-domain limitation.

The dynamics of linear positive systems map the positive orthant to itself. In other words, it maps a set of vectors with zero sign variations to itself. This raises the following question: what linear systems map the set of vectors with k sign variations to itself? We address this question using tools from the theory of cooperative dynamical systems and the theory of totally positive matrices. This yields a generalization of positive linear systems called k-positive linear systems, that reduces to positive systems for k = 1. We describe applications of this new type of systems to the analysis of nonlinear dynamical systems. In particular, we show that such systems admit certain explicit invariant sets, and for the case k = 2 establish the Poincaré-Bendixson property for any bounded trajectory. Removing skull artifacts from functional magnetic images (fMRI) is a well understood and frequently encountered problem. Because the fMRI field has grown mostly due to human studies, many new tools were developed to handle human data. Nonetheless, these tools are not equally useful to handle the data derived from animal studies, especially from rodents. This represents a major problem to the field because rodent studies generate larger datasets from larger populations, which implies that preprocessing these images manually to remove the skull becomes a bottleneck in the data analysis pipeline. In this study, we address this problem by implementing a neural network based method that uses a U-Net architecture to segment the brain area into a mask and removing the skull and other tissues from the image. We demonstrate several strategies to speed up the process of generating the training dataset using watershedding and several strategies for data augmentation that allowed to train faster the U-Net to perform the segmentation. In recent times, there has been a increasing trend towards attention for the production of elec.ricity from alternate/innovative sources of renewable energy due to the ever-increasing need for sustainable yet environment-friendly and low-cost production approaches (i.e., solar, wind, wave, hydro-power etc.). Pathar Kuchi Leaf (PKL) is one such promising source of elec.ricity generation where elec.ro-chemical conversion of energy provide the means to work as an alternate source of cell/battery. Especially in the context of a developing country like Bangladesh, this new form of biomass energy (PKL) possesses a great potential to fulfill the energy demand of rural people, who live under the poverty line. However, the key performance criteria for PKL cell is the assurance of efficient generation of elec.ricity, since it plays a key role in supplying cleaner and proficient elec.ric power to the consumers. Therefore, this paper proposes an experimental study of cell efficiency of PKL (Pathor Kuchi Leaf), on top of the previous analysis provided on this topic in the literature. To be precise, a thorough analysis has been performed in this paper to assess the performance of PKL cell in terms of voltaic efficiency, coulombic efficiency, and energy efficiency. The results from experimental data suggests a near-perfect energy efficiency of PKL cell for our proposed test-bed. With respect to the scope of the work, the overall aim has been to introduce/establish this emerging form of biomass energy to the modern world and discuss it's important characteristics.
