In this study, we present a method for free-space beam shaping and steering based on a silicon optical phased array, which addresses the theoretical limitation of traditional bulk optics. We theoretically analyze the beam propagation properties with changes in the applied phase. Different beam profiles can be shaped by varying the phase combination, while a high-order quasi-Bessel beam can be generated with a cubic change to the phase modulation. The simulated results are validated further experimentally, and they match one another well. The presented method is expected to have broad application prospects for optical communications, free-space optical interconnects, and light detection and ranging.

Large scale artificial intelligence (AI) models possess excellent capabilities in semantic representation and understanding, making them particularly well-suited for semantic encoding and decoding. However, the substantial scale of these AI models imposes unacceptable computational resources and communication delays. To address this issue, we propose a semantic communication scheme based on robust knowledge distillation (RKD-SC) for large scale model enabled semantic communications. In the considered system, a transmitter extracts the features of the source image for robust transmission and accurate image classification at the receiver. To effectively utilize the superior capability of large scale model while make the cost affordable, we first transfer knowledge from a large scale model to a smaller scale model to serve as the semantic encoder. Then, to enhance the robustness of the system against channel noise, we propose a channel-aware autoencoder (CAA) based on the Transformer architecture. Experimental results show that the encoder of proposed RKD-SC system can achieve over 93.3% of the performance of a large scale model while compressing 96.67% number of parameters. With the continuous development of urban rail, it has become one of the main ways for people to travel. How to ensure the safe and efficient operation of urban rail transit is the focus of attention. The switch machine is one of the important equipment of the signal system. During the long-term service, the performance of the device gradually deteriorates or sudden failure, which will have a significant impact on the operation of the train. For this reason, it is necessary to evaluate the health status of the point machine to predict the life of the point machine. Therefore, a continuously distributed health index (HI) is proposed to characterize the health status of the switch machine in service throughout its life cycle. The operation state of Switch machine is related to the characteristics of its working current. Based on this assumption, this paper monitor the operation state of Switch machine by applying artificial intelligence technology. In this paper, Long-Short Term Memory is trained to predict the health index of the Switch machine. The result shows that the model used by this paper can achieve high accuracy and the prediction accuracy rate reaches 84.9%.It is reliable in predicting the health index of Switch machine. Finally, the HI can be used not only to evaluate the health status of switch machines, but also to predict the health status of other key rail equipment, and promote the development of smart rail transit operation and maintenance. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Resilient Cooperative Control of Multiple DC Microgrids With Interconnection Networks Against Cyber Attacks

The two control objectives of voltage regulation and precise current sharing are conflicting in multi-bus DC microgrids. In this paper, a distributed control strategy is proposed, and it can achieve accurate current sharing and regulate the voltage of a critical node to the rated value. However, such a distributed control system is susceptible to potential cyber attacks that could deteriorate microgrids performances by corrupting communication links or actuators. To overcome these difficulties, we design the interconnected communication networks to establish a resilient cooperative system of multiple microgrids against unknown bounded injection attacks. The proposed resilient control strategy can achieve the control objectives of maintaining voltage regulation and current sharing within each microgrids under different operating conditions, and the interconnected system consisting of multiple microgrids cooperates to mitigate the adverse effect of cyber attacks. The dynamics and stability of the overall close-loop system of the DC microgrids are analyzed, in the present or absent of cyber attacks. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in two 4-bus DC microgrids. © 2023 IEEE.

The proliferation of behind-the-meter (BTM) distributed energy resources (DER) within the electrical distribution network presents significant supply and demand flexibilities, but also introduces operational challenges such as voltage spikes and reverse power flows. In response, this paper proposes a network-aware dynamic pricing framework tailored for energy-sharing coalitions that aggregate small, but ubiquitous, BTM DER downstream of a distribution system operator’s (DSO) revenue meter that adopts a generic net energy metering (NEM) tariff. By formulating a Stackelberg game between the energy-sharing market leader and its prosumers, we show that the dynamic pricing policy induces the prosumers toward a network-safe operation and decentrally maximizes the energysharing social welfare. The dynamic pricing mechanism involves a combination of a locational ex-ante dynamic price and an ex-post allocation, both of which are functions of the energy sharing’s BTM DER. The ex-post allocation is proportionate to the price differential between the DSO NEM price and the energy-sharing locational price. Simulation results using real DER data and the IEEE 13-bus test systems illustrate the dynamic nature of network-aware pricing at each bus, and its impact on voltage.

The growing use of millimeter-wave radars in the intelligent transportation field and increasing accuracy provide new possibilities for train speed measurement. This paper proposes a measuring train speed method by using millimeter-wave radar to detect static objects. The millimeter-wave radar was used to obtain and process objects data. Then, using the RANSAC algorithm to extract the static objects group, and calculated the relative speed of the millimeter-wave radar and the static objects group. Finally, we completed the comparative experiment of using millimeter-wave radar and odometer to measure train speed in a real track environment. The results show that the measurement error of this method is less than 1.5 m/s, and it has the characteristics of low cost, fast speed measurement, and high precision. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Presence of haze in digital images poses significant challenges in computer vision applications, adversely impacting tasks like image segmentation and object detection. To tackle this issue, this paper introduces a fusion-based dehazing strategy by integrating color conversion, adaptive gamma correction, and parameter estimation. Through multi resolution fusion of chromatic and brightness maps, the algorithm efficiently removes haze, surpassing conventional single-image approaches while maintaining computational efficacy. From comparative analysis it is evident that, the proposed strategy is highly effective in terms of improving image quality for diverse applications. © 2024 IEEE.

The combination of Chest X-Ray imaging and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has proven its efficiency in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) detection [1]. The present paper proposes an efficient COVID-19 detection system based on a new textural features descriptor: Monogenic Local Binary Pattern Variance (MLBPV). An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model is used for Regions Of Interest (ROIs) classification. Evaluating MLBPV, it outperforms other tested models by achieving an Area Under Curve (A-{z}) of 0.96263 and an accuracy of 99.9805%. Comparing our method with previous ones proves that ours provides the best performance. This model may be implemented in digital X-Ray machine for radiography and help radiologists. © 2022 IEEE.

At high velocity flight, the infrared imaging system encounters significant aero-optical disturbances due to the uneven gas flow around the aircraft’s forward section and the elevated temperatures of the optical dome. In the simulation study of aero-optical effects, hydrodynamic calculations of the gas flow field and optical dome are required. This paper examines the utilization of the solid-fluid coupling approach in simulating aero-optical phenomena from the perspective of fluid dynamics computations. This paper undertakes the geometric modelling of the airflow environment and optical dome of a blunt-nose front-window flight vehicle. Utilizing ICEM, the mesh generation for both the gaseous flow domain and the solid optical dome is executed. Subsequently, Fluent software facilitates the performance of hydrodynamic simulations, concurrently extracting vital parameters from both the flow field and the optical dome. The method in this paper can be used in the calculation and analysis of aero-optical effects of high-speed flight vehicles.
