Human–robot interface(HRI)electronics are critical for realizing robotic ***,we report graphene-based dual-function acoustic transducers for machine learning-assisted human–robot interfaces(GHRI).The GHRI functions both an artificial ear through the triboelectric acoustic sensing mechanism and an artificial mouth through the thermoacoustic sound emission *** success of the integrated device is also attributed to the multifunctional laser-induced graphene,as either triboelectric materials,electrodes,or thermoacoustic *** systematically optimizing the structure parameters,the GHRI achieves high sensitivity(4500 mV Pa^(–1))and operating durability(1000000 cycles and 60 days),capable of recognizing speech identities,emotions,content,and other information in the human *** the assistance of machine learning,30 speech categories are trained by a convolutional neural network,and the accuracy reaches 99.66%and 96.63%in training datasets and test ***,GHRI is used for artificial intelligence communication based on recognized speech *** work shows broad prospects for the development of robotic intelligence.

Network-Aware and Welfare-Maximizing Dynamic Pricing for Energy Sharing

The proliferation of behind-the-meter (BTM) distributed energy resources (DER) within the electrical distribution network presents significant supply and demand flexibilities, but also introduces operational challenges such as voltage spikes and reverse power flows. In response, this paper proposes a network-aware dynamic pricing framework tailored for energy-sharing coalitions that aggregate small, but ubiquitous, BTM DER downstream of a distribution system operator's (DSO) revenue meter that adopts a generic net energy metering (NEM) tariff. By formulating a Stackelberg game between the energy-sharing market leader and its prosumers, we show that the dynamic pricing policy induces the prosumers toward a network-safe operation and decentrally maximizes the energy-sharing social welfare. The dynamic pricing mechanism involves a combination of a locational ex-ante dynamic price and an ex-post allocation, both of which are functions of the energy sharing's BTM DER. The ex-post allocation is proportionate to the price differential between the DSO NEM price and the energy-sharing locational price. Simulation results using real DER data and the IEEE 13-bus test systems illustrate the dynamic nature of network-aware pricing at each bus, and its impact on voltage. © 2024, CC BY.

A Decentralized Market Mechanism for Energy Communities under Operating Envelopes

We propose an operating envelopes (OEs) aware energy community market mechanism that dynamically charges/rewards its members based on two-part pricing. The OEs are imposed exogenously by a regulated distribution system operator (DSO) on the energy community’s revenue meter and is subject to a generalized net energy metering (NEM) tariff design. By formulating the interaction of the community operator and its members as a Stackelberg game, we show that the proposed two-part pricing achieves a Nash equilibrium and maximizes the community’s social welfare in a decentralized fashion while ensuring that the community’s operation abides by the OEs. The market mechanism conforms with the cost-causation principle and guarantees community members a surplus level no less than their maximum surplus when they autonomously face the DSO. The dynamic and uniform community price is a monotonically decreasing function of the community’s aggregate renewable generation. We also analyze the impact of exogenous parameters such as NEM rates and OEs on the value of joining the community. Lastly, through numerical studies, we showcase the community’s welfare, and pricing, and compare its members’ surplus to customers under the DSO’s regime. © 2024, CC BY.

This study investigates the application of clustering algorithms to data collected from color sensors providing frequency signals during the cultivation process. Continuous sampling allowed for real-time data collection, and variations in temperature and humidity were observed to influence signal reception. The dataset's large volume and varying sample sizes necessitated the evaluation of several clustering models for efficient data processing. The experiment tested K-Means, K-Means++, Mini-Batch K-Means, and Bisecting K-Means algorithms. The results reveal that the computation time for each model increased with the number of groups. Specifically, the K-Means, K-Means++, and Mini-Batch K-Means models exhibited shorter computation times, ranging from 0.02 to 0.03 seconds for two-group scenarios, while the Bisecting K-Means algorithm took significantly longer, approximately 0.10 seconds. Despite the variation in processing times, all models performed similarly in terms of clustering quality, with an average Silhouette Score of 0.82. This score indicates that the algorithms effectively separated data points into well-defined groups while maintaining high accuracy in clustering. Additionally, the analysis highlighted the importance of balancing computation time and clustering quality, particularly as the number of clusters increases. These findings suggest that while computational efficiency may vary across models, the clustering quality remains robust, providing valuable insights for data analysis in agricultural sensor networks. The study's results demonstrate that each clustering model is capable of handling large datasets with high accuracy in grouping, making them applicable to real-world agricultural data processing scenarios. In conclusion, the experiment confirms that all tested models, despite differing in computation time, successfully partitioned the data with high-quality results, offering promising applications for data analysis and optimization in agricult

Managing a work-life balance has always been challenging, especially after the recent trend of working from home, which has made maintaining one's fitness and diet regime strenuous. Failing to adhere to a fitness and diet plan has been shown to cause long-term effects on a person's health including obesity and shortened lifespans. Currently, people plan their fitness and diet plans around their schedule, but these tasks are challenging to maintain. Users tend to give up these plans due to a lack of time and planning. To help with better planning for a fitness and diet regime, we propose, CHARLIE, a chatbot that works around a user's schedule to intelligently recommend diets and fitness goals based on their calendar. CHARLIE is a recommendation system that suggests the users' a certain meal and fitness activities based on the amount of time they have left in their day and the number of calories they lose. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we address a collaborative routing problem of the truck-drone delivery system, in which a truck collaborates with multiple drones to perform parcel deliveries. To meet the practical demands of non-emergency deliverirs, each vehicle (i.e., a truck or a drone) is allowed to serve a customer earlier and later than the required time window. We propose a variable neighborhood search metaheuristic incorporated with an acceptable criterion of simulated annealing (HVNS-SA) to solve this problem. Besides, we design a novel solution representation and introduce 6 problem-specific neighborhood structures to construct the hybrid metaheuristic. Finally, extensive experiments are conducted based on a set of benchmark instances to evaluate the performance of HVNS-SA. The comparison studies with simulated annealing (SA), conventional variable neighborhood search (CVNS), and variable neighborhood descent (VND) show the superiority of HVNS-SA. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In industry, rotary lifting platforms are widely used. In this research, two models with different support plate thicknesses are designed for the same type of four support plates rotating lifting platforms. The research simplifies the model to a cantilever beam model to facilitate the theoretical calculation of mechanical parameters of materials. The stresses and deformations of the support plates of the two models under different loads are theoretically calculated. The calculation results all meet the safety requirements of the material. The finite element simulation software ANSYS WORKBENCH is used to verify whether the stresses and deformations of the actual models meet the requirements. The simulation results show that the stress and deformation of the simulation are different from those of the theoretical calculation. The reason lies in the simplification of the theoretical calculation. This difference does not affect the simulation result parameters to meet the design safety requirements.

As real environments are quite complex, multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) channels should be characterized by the multidimensional-multirelational models. Tensor linear algebra has been emerging as a powerful and promising tool for such MIMO channel modeling and estimation. However, to the best of our knowledge, there hardly exists any algebraic framework of MIMO channel equalization when the channel is modeled as an arbitrary-dimensional transfer tensor (a tensor whose entries are all rational z-functions). In this work, we first propose a new method based on the projection, namely, 'projection-based method,' to determine whether a given transfer tensor is a full-rank tensor or not and carry out the inversion of an invertible transfer tensor. Our idea is employing the projection subspace of the system transfer tensor to simplify the pertinent inversion process. Second, we design the finite-impulse-response (FIR) realization to approximate the inverse of an arbitrary transfer tensor such that all entries of the approximated inverse transfer tensor are finite-degree polynomials of z. Third, we also analyze the computational and memory complexities required by our proposed new projection-based method for checking the full-rank condition of a given transfer tensor and for undertaking the tensor inversion. Our developed new theories and analysis in this work can be applied to determine the FIR model-orders of an approximated inverse MIMO transfer tensor often encountered in signal processing, control, communications, etc. © 2007-2012 IEEE.

Accurate traffic flow forecasting is crucial for managing and planning urban transportation systems. Despite the widespread use of sequence modelling models like Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) for this purpose, the potential of Transformer models remains underexplored. This is particularly true for the simplest form of a single block encoder-decoder Transformer model, which can be finely tuned through optimised hyperparameters. This paper examines the performance of a singular horizon-step forecasting method for multi-step traffic flow forecasting using a proposed Single Block Encoder-Decoder Transformer model optimised with a Grid Search algorithm. Results demonstrate that this model can enhance forecasting accuracy compared to the state-of-the-art LSTM model typically used for multi-step forecasting. The model effectively captures long-range temporal dependencies within a single road traffic flow dataset. It was tested on hourly traffic flow data to forecast the next 24 hours for the I5-North freeway in California, sourced from the Caltrans Performance Measurement system. The optimal configuration included an embedding dimension of 32, a feed-forward dimension of 128, and 8 attention heads. Results show a significant improvement, with a 4.7% reduction in Root Mean Squared Error compared to an LSTM model with two hidden layers of 100 neurons each, showcasing the potential of Single Block Encoder-Decoder Transformer models for real-world traffic prediction applications. © 2024 IEEE.
