The nodes near sink in wireless sensor networks are featured with heavy transmission loads, so these performance bottleneck nodes are prone to running out of energy early with shortened network lifetime. Routing tactic plays important role on transmission performance and energy consumption of network. In this paper, we enumerate typical source routing tactics in Grid topology, include 1) Random Equal Probability Forwarding, 2) Line Forwarding, 3) Source-Zigzag Forwarding, 4) Destination-Zigzag Forwarding, and 5) Balance Forwarding. We analysis the traffic load distribution among nodes for these routing tactics, and calculate the load of performance bottleneck nodes and transmission delay in one data collection cycle. Based on the energy consumption model, we further make comparison on the energy consumptions of transmission and standing-by for these tactics. Numerical results show that Balance Forwarding tactic leads to the least overall energy consumption on performance bottleneck nodes, and Line Forwarding and Random Equal-Probability Forwarding lead to high energy consumption.

Consumer participation in quality improvements for chronic disease care: Development and evaluation of an interactive patient-centered survey to identify preferred service initiatives

Background: With increasing attention given to the quality of chronic disease care, a measurement approach that empowers consumers to participate in improving quality of care and enables health services to systematically introduce patient-centered initiatives is needed. A Web-based survey with complex adaptive questioning and interactive survey items would allow consumers to easily identify and prioritize detailed service initiatives. Objective: The aim was to develop and test a Web-based survey capable of identifying and prioritizing patient-centered initiatives in chronic disease outpatient services. Testing included (1) test-retest reliability, (2) patient-perceived acceptability of the survey content and delivery mode, and (3) average completion time, completion rates, and Flesch-Kincaid reading score. Methods: In Phase I, the Web-based Consumer Preferences Survey was developed based on a structured literature review and iterative feedback from expert groups of service providers and consumers. The touchscreen survey contained 23 general initiatives, 110 specific initiatives available through adaptive questioning, and a relative prioritization exercise. In Phase II, a pilot study was conducted within 4 outpatient clinics to evaluate the reliability properties, patient-perceived acceptability, and feasibility of the survey. Eligible participants were approached to complete the survey while waiting for an appointment or receiving intravenous therapy. The age and gender of nonconsenters was estimated to ascertain consent bias. Participants with a subsequent appointment within 14 days were asked to complete the survey for a second time. Results: A total of 741 of 1042 individuals consented to participate (71.11% consent), 529 of 741 completed all survey content (78.9% completion), and 39 of 68 completed the test-retest component. In the face of global competition, the requirement for dimensional accuracy, mechanical properties and surface properties has become a major challenge on aluminum manufacturing industries. Conventional rolling force formulas, however, provide not more than reasonably exact approximations. The mathematical modeling of the hot rolling process has long been recognized to be a desirable approach to aid in rolling operating practice and the design of mill equipment to improve productivity and quality. However, many factors make the theoretical analysis of the rolling process very complex and time-consuming. This paper presents a prediction method based on the Artificial Bee Colony algorithm and BP neural network, which was developed in order to improve the prediction of rolling force in hot strip rolling process. The architecture of BP neural network is optimized by Artificial Bee Colony algorithm. Comparing with the Sims mathematical model and BP neural network, the experimental results show that the prediction accuracy and error of rolling force is superior to the other two methods, and the predicted rolling force is very close to the practical rolling force.

The primary objective of this paper is to detect and identify breast cancer tumor from the scattered field signal. It is known that the scattered electromagnetic fields from a dispersive media contain information about the resonance frequencies of tissues as complex poles or complex natural resonances. These poles for cancerous tissues depend on the tumor shape, depth and size. The computed complex poles are used to identify the existence of a malignancy, shape, size and depth.

We deduce rigorous conditions for the onset of amplitude death (AD) and oscillation death (OD) in a system of identical coupled paradigmatic Stuart-Landau oscillators. A nonscalar coupling and high frequency are beneficial for the onset of AD. In strong contrast, scalar diffusive coupling and low intrinsic frequency are in favor of the emergence of OD. Our finding contributes to clearly distinguish intrinsic geneses for AD and OD, and further substantially corroborates that AD and OD are indeed two dynamically distinct oscillation quenching phenomena due to distinctly different mechanisms.

This paper deals with the design of robust discrete linear quadratic regulators applied to three-phase inverters connected to the grid by means of LCL filters. The system is modeled in the state space in abc coordinates and changed to aβ coordinates, allowing a simple control design and implementation. Resonant controllers are used to ensure the tracking of sinusoidal references for grid current. The control gains are computed by means of a convex optimization problem and ensure that the closed-loop system is robustly stable when operating under conditions of uncertain grid inductance. The controller is experimentally validated with a 5.4 kW prototype, showing good results for three-phase grid current control.
