We have investigated the non-radiative recombination of GaN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) using electroluminescence (EL) and cathdoluminescence (CL) techniques. Comparing between EL and CL measurements, we can map the defects causing non-radiative recombination centers. At first, same size mapping techniques of these two measurements show defect-assisted non-radiative recombination. And enlarged CL images give more detail contents about this mechanism. It is concluded that the image mapping of EL and CL in GaN have a strong correlation between the two techniques, and this result shows that non-radiative recombinations are mainly affected by defects of GaN LEDs.

This paper is devoted to the problem of state estimate of discrete-time stochastic systems with Markov jump parameters. A robust algorithm-diagonal interacting multiple model algorithm based on H_∞ filtering (DIMMH) is presented for maneuvering target tracking when measurement noise is of unknown statistics. Extensive Monte Carlo simulations show the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed algorithm.

We consider eigenvalue-eigenvector assignment in order to minimise ultimate bounds on the states of a linear time-invariant (LTI) discrete-time system in the presence of non-vanishing bounded disturbances. As opposed to continuous-time systems, for which eigenstructure assignment with large magnitude stable eigenvalues can yield arbitrarily small ultimate bounds for “matched” perturbations, for discrete-time systems, ultimate bounds cannot be smaller than certain values depending on the disturbance bounds. Moreover, these smallest bounds are not achievable, in general, by assigning the closed-loop eigenvalues to zero (an intuitive conjecture that parallels the continuous-time case). The first contribution of the paper, for single-input systems, are conditions on the zeros of the transfer function between the control input and a state to minimise the ultimate bound corresponding to that state. These conditions generalise a result recently presented by the authors. The second, and main, contribution of the current paper is to characterise, for multiple-input systems, the eigenstructure of the closed-loop system so that some ultimate bounds are minimised to their minimum values. The number of ultimate bound components that can be minimised is constrained by the number of control inputs. For m-input system, the minimisation problem of m - 1 ultimate bound components can be solved without restrictions, while in order to minimise an additional bound, an additional restrictive condition should be satisfied.

Typically, comparisons among optimization algorithms only considers the results obtained at the end of the search process. However, there are occasions in which is very interesting to perform comparisons along the search. This way, algorithms could also be categorized depending on its convergence performance, which would help when deciding which algorithms perform better among a set of methods that are assumed as equal when only the results at the end of the search are considered. In this work, we present a procedure to perform a pairwise comparison of two algorithms' convergence performance. A non-parametric procedure, the Page test, is used to detect significant differences between the evolution of the error of the algorithms as the search continues. A case of study has been also provided to demonstrate the application of the test.

Generation of multicolor vacuum ultraviolet pulses through four-wave sum-frequency mixing in argon

We demonstrate efficient generation of multicolor vacuum ultraviolet pulses with excellent mode quality through χ(3)-based four-wave sum-frequency mixing and third-order harmonic generation of 400- and 267-nm femtosecond laser pulses in argon gas. The χ(3)-based nonlinear optical processes were optimized with appropriate control of gas pressure and group velocity delay between the driving pulses. Furthermore, the pulse breakup effects were observed for tightly focused ultraviolet pulses.

Current-transfer phase-control breaking is one method of paralleled breaking. This method can make up for shortcoming of sole chamber with high rated current and high rated short-current breaking current at the same time. In addition to breaker stationary open time and computing speed of controller, the key influence factor is that controller needs accurately to compute the current-transfer time and current zero appearing moment. It will influence the best triggering moment determination of breaker driving actuator. This paper constructs its mathematical model of current transfer process. By the theory modeling with Matlab, this paper analyzes the influencing factors to current-transfer time and current zero appearing moment. From simulation procedure and result, dc component of short-circuit current and short-circuit current phase angle of contact separating moment of first open chamber, impedance parameter of paralleled circuit and arc voltage of first open chamber after contact separating both influence the current process and current zero. After breaker structure and chamber parameters are fixed, most important matter is that short-circuit current phase angle of contact separating moment of first open chamber needs to be determined accurately.

Brain ideal midline estimation is vital in medical image processing, especially in analyzing the severity of a brain injury in clinical environments. We propose an automated computer-aided ideal midline estimation system with a two-step process. First, a CT Slice Selection Algorithm (SSA) can automatically select an appropriate subset of slices from a large number of raw CT images using the skull’s anatomical features. Next, an ideal midline detection is implemented on the selected subset of slices. An exhaustive symmetric position search is performed based on the anatomical features in the detection. In order to enhance the accuracy of the detection, a global rotation assumption is applied to determine the ideal midline by fully considering the connection between slices. Experimental results of the multi-stage algorithm were assessed on 3313 CT slices of 70 patients. The accuracy of the proposed system is 96.9%, which makes it viable for use under clinical settings.

A Python computer program for calculation of distortion in the wide-band diode bridge track and hold amplifier (THA) is proposed. The computer program calculates the distortion of weekly nonlinear THA based on the KCL and the nonlinear-current method with an improved process. Simulations based on a commercially available 130 nm process technology are performed with the SpectreRF simulator. Comparative SpectreRF simulated results for the diode bridge THA have shown good agreement with those of computer program calculation, whereas the overall computational efficiency has been improved in a special evaluation. © 2013 IEEE.

Pattern Discovery in DNS Query Traffic

DNS provides a critical function in directing Internet traffic. Traditional rule-based anomaly or intrusion detection methods are not able to update the rules dynamically. Data mining based approaches can find various patterns in massive dynamic query traffic data. In this paper, a novel periodic trend mining method is proposed, as well as a periodic trend pattern based traffic prediction method. Clustering is adopted to partition numerous domain names into separate groups by the characteristics of their query traffic time series. Experimental results on a real-word DNS log indicate data mining based approaches are promising in the domain of DNS service.

Software birthmarks are unique and native characteristics of a binary executable program that can be used for detecting software piracy. API (Application Programming Interface) calls in an MS Windows binary executable can be used as software birthmarks when there are no source codes available to detect software similarity. However, it is inefficient to extract birthmarks from all API calls during the execution of a binary executable. In this paper, we propose an efficient scheme for comparing software similarity. To reduce the number of comparisons used in the proposed scheme, we extract only the core API calls that are explicitly used in different programs. The birthmarks used for comparing the similarity between two programs can be obtained by extracting these core API calls. Our experimental results show that this proposed birthmark scheme using core API calls is efficient for evaluating software similarity. Copyright 2013 ACM.
