By inserting copper (Cu) metal layer between platinum (Pt) and titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ), we have observed both unipolar and bipolar resistive switching characteristics in Pt/Cu/TiO 2 /Pt stacked RRAM cell. In order to analyze the conduction mechanism, we have conducted I-V fitting. And based on measurement results of bias polarity dependency, we have found that copper plays a role as oxygen reservoir. It can explain redox mechanism in bipolar resistive switching cell.

In 3D stacked NAND flash memory, the number of stacked layers tends to increase for high density storage capacity. With the increase of the height of devices, it is important to achieve a good vertical etch profile by which word line (WL) gate dimensions are affected. In this paper, we investigate the effect of the variation of gate dimensions on the program characteristics in 3D NAND flash memory array by using TCAD simulation. Also, we compare the cell characteristics of NAND flash with different structures, gate-all-around (GAA) and double gate (DG).

Energy consumption in buildings comprises a significant fraction of total worldwide energy consumption and is strongly influenced by occupant behavior. To explore the quantitative effect of particular occupant actions on building energy consumption, we have evaluated eight energy-saving behaviors, as well as the use of an in-home display (IHD), in 10 homes over the course of ten weeks. The results showed maximum savings ranging from 0%-20% attributed to the IHD, indicating that real-time feedback combined with actionable suggestions can motivate substantial conservation. By examining the data along with pre and post-experiment surveys, we conclude that automation is necessary to ease the more tedious tasks such as "unplug when not in use" and "unplug the TV," where fewer than half of the highly capable and motivated participants performed the actions. © 2012 ACM.

This paper proposes a method to predict the effect of Bevacizumab therapy on Glioblastoma Multiform (GBM) tumors. The prediction is critical for effective treatment planning. The proposed method is developed and evaluated using Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) and post-contrast T1-weighted Magnetic Resonance Images (pc-T1-MRI) of 14 patients with GBM tumors gathered before and after the treatment. First, the proposed method calculates diffusion anisotropy indices (DAI) of all voxels in the brain. These diffusion anisotropy indices are Fractional Anisotropy (FA), Mean Diffusivity (MD), Relative Anisotropy (RA), and Volume Ratio (VR). Then, it registers post-treatment pc-T1-MRI and pre-treatment DAI maps to pre-treatment pc-T1-MRI. Next, it uses a thresholding method to segment the tumor from pc-T1-MRI studies. Comparing Gd-enhanced voxels of the pre- and post-treatment pc-T1-MRI, the DAIs of the tumor are labeled based on their response to the treatment. The voxels of 7 patients are randomly selected to train 4 classifiers (ANN, SVM, KNN, and ANFIS) and then all voxels of the other 7 patients are used to test them. For each classifier, four performance measures (sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and accuracy) are calculated. Experimental results show that the ANFIS is more accurate than the other classifiers in predicting the treatment response. © 2012 IEEE.

In many Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications that crowd-source data from probe vehicles, a crucial step is to accurately map the GPS trajectories to the road network in real time. This process, known as map-matching, often needs to account for noise and sparseness of the data because (1) highly precise GPS traces are rarely available, and (2) dense trajectories are costly for live transmission and storage. We propose an online map-matching algorithm based on the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) that is robust to noise and sparseness. We focused on two improvements over existing HMM-based algorithms: (1) the use of an optimal localizing strategy, the variable sliding window (VSW) method, that guarantees the online solution quality under uncertain future inputs, and (2) the novel combination of spatial, temporal and topological information using machine learning. We evaluated the accuracy of our algorithm using field test data collected on bus routes covering urban and rural areas. Furthermore, we also investigated the relationships between accuracy and output delays in processing live input streams. In our tests on field test data, VSW outperformed the traditional localizing method in terms of both accuracy and output delay. Our results suggest that it is viable for low-latency applications such as traffic sensing.

Body centric wireless communication refers to inter human and intra human connectivity for various medical and rescue application. A compact and flexible printed textile antenna operable at 5.2GHz for WiMAX and WLAN application has been presented. Wearable 1mm thick blue jeans having relative permittivity 1.67 and loss tangent of 0.01 has been used as substrate material. Return loss, VSWR and radiation pattern have been presented to show the good agreement between the simulated and measured results. Free space and near body scenarios were considered separately while designing and in measurement of results. The proposed antenna exhibits omnidirectional radiation pattern for near body case with suitable gain of 5dB for body centric applications. Simulations were carried out using HFSS (High Frequency Structural Simulator) and measurements were performed using vector network analyzer and anechoic chamber.

The inverse mapping in MagnetoEncephaloGraphy involves localizing neuronal activity of the gray matter tissue from measured signals around the head. The search space of the inverse mapping is conventionally represented in 3-D Cartesian coordinates including the cortical volume, or alternatively, 2-D manifold describing the cortical tissue. 3-D Cartesian coordinates does not suit sparse regularization of the inverse mapping in multi-resolution source domains. On the other hand, boundary surface of the cortex, represented as triangulated mesh, is used as the search space in some other inverse mapping techniques. However, this surface does not represent depth of the cortex. Moreover, to represent neuronal activity in embedded signal dictionaries, convoluted manifold should be gridded. In this paper we propose to use medial surface as the best surface descriptor of the cortical tissue. Furthermore, manifold gridding is constructed by defining bijective mapping between a flattened parameterized domain and convoluted surface. Signal bases are defined conventionally in the parameterized domain and mapped to the cortical volume by means of the bijective mapping. Medial surface of the cortex tissue, represented as triangulated mesh, is extracted by gradient-based search algorithm. Source localization, for simulated neuronal activity, is performed in real head model extracted from magnetic resonance images. Sparse estimated source of the inverse mapping are compared on volume, boundary surface, and medial surface domains. Simulation results confirm advantages of surface over volume domain. Performnace measures of source localization proves the medial surface as the best surface describing the cortex volume.

For more than 30 years, knowledge-based product configuration systems have been successfully applied in many industrial domains. Correspondingly, a large number of advanced techniques and algorithms have been developed in academia and industry to support different aspects of configuration reasoning. While traditional research in the field focused on the configuration of physical artefacts, recognition of the business value of customizable software products led to the emergence of software product line engineering. Despite the significant overlap in research interests, the two fields mainly evolved in isolation. Only limited attempts were made at combining the approaches developed in the different fields. In this paper, we first aim to give an overview of commonalities and differences between software product line engineering and product configuration. We then identify opportunities for cross-fertilization between these fields and finally develop a research agenda to combine their respective techniques. Ultimately, this should lead to a unified configuration approach.

Conceptual problem for noncommutative inflation and the new approach for nonrelativistic inflationary equation of state

In a previous paper, we connected the phenomenological noncommutative inflation of Alexander, Brandenberger and Magueijo [Phys. Rev. D 67, 081301 (2003)] and Koh and Brandenberger [J. Cosmol. Astropart Phys. 06 (2007) 21] with the formal representation theory of groups and algebras and analyzed minimal conditions that the deformed dispersion relation should satisfy in order to lead to a successful inflation. In that paper, we showed that elementary tools of algebra allow a group-like procedure in which even Hopf algebras (roughly the symmetries of noncommutative spaces) could lead to the equation of state of inflationary radiation. Nevertheless, in this paper, we show that there exists a conceptual problem with the kind of representation that leads to the fundamental equations of the model. The problem comes from an incompatibility between one of the minimal conditions for successful inflation (the momentum of individual photons being bounded from above) and the Fock-space structure of the representation which leads to the fundamental inflationary equations of state. We show that the Fock structure, although mathematically allowed, would lead to problems with the overall consistency of physics, like leading to a problematic scattering theory, for example. We suggest replacing the Fock space by one of two possible structures that we propose. One of them relates to the general theory of Hopf algebras (here explained at an elementary level) while the other is based on a representation theorem of von Neumann algebras (a generalization of the Clebsch-Gordan coefficients), a proposal already suggested by us to take into account interactions in the inflationary equation of state.
