This paper is concerned with analyzing a novel model transformation of discrete-time Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with time-varying delays and applying it to dynamic output feedback (DOF) controller design. A new auxiliary model is proposed by employing a new approximation for time-varying delay state, and then delay partitioning method is used to analyze the scaled small gain of this auxiliary model. A sufficient condition on discrete-time T-S fuzzy systems with time-varying delays, which guarantees the corresponding closed-loop system to be asymptotically stable and has an induced ℓ 2 disturbance attenuation performance, is derived by employing the scaled small gain theorem. Then the solvability condition for the induced ℓ 2 DOF control is also established, by which the DOF controller can be found by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).

The concept of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) enables flexible and dynamic collaborations among different service providers. Backed up by SOA, scientific workflows can bring together various scientific computing tools and resources all offered as services to answer complex research questions. However, studies conducted on my Experiment show that although the sharing of service-based capabilities opens a gateway to resource reuse, in practice, the degree of reuse is very low. This motivates us to propose ServiceMap to provide navigation support through the network of services in building scientific workflows. In this paper, we propose an extension of ServiceMap, i.e., ReputationNet that incorporates the reputation of services/workflows and their publishers to reinforce its capability in terms of service and workflow recommendations. We develop a novel model of the reputation aspects of the services/workflows, and we propose heuristic algorithms to provide service recommendations based on reputations. Experiments have been conducted with workflows on my Experiment to evaluate the effectiveness and validity of the ReputationNet approach for service recommendations.

Ge 2 Sb 2 Te 5 (GST) is normally employed as a current-driven and heat-triggered structural phase-change material in multielement phase-change memories. This work identifies GST as a ferroelectric material suitable for a single-element memory operating at low voltages without heat-based transformation. With GST as a floating gate, hysteretic behavior that is opposite of that arising from charge trapping and consistent with ferroelectric phase transition is characterized. Saturating memory window of ~1 V under ±4 V cycling and retention times of hundreds of seconds constrained by depolarization are observed. Extracted remnant polarization is ~0.13 μC/cm 2 . The result suggests potential for embedded use with the advantages of a retention time that is competitive or better than DRAMs, a single-element transistorlike structure and technologically easy integration.

A trim distance as a phylogeny-based distance between two positions in nucleotide sequences is formulated as an LCA-preserving distance between the trimmed phylogenetic trees by the positions. In this paper, in order to investigate the positions as packaging signals of nucleotide sequences in influenza A (H3N2) viruses, we compute and compare the trim distances between positions in the nucleotide sequences of influenza A (H3N2) viruses provided from NCBI.

We have employed XeCl Excimer Laser Annealing (ELA) treatment on ZTO active layer in low temperature solution-processed Zinc Tin Oxide (ZTO) Thin Film Transistors (TFTs) with 300 °C of annealing temperature. The threshold voltage decreased from 18.38 V to 4.78 V because of the increase of carrier concentration by reduction of Cl bonding by employing ELA treatment. The saturation mobility was also gradually improved from 0.04 cm 2 /Vsec to 0.58 cm 2 /Vsec because of the reduction of halide residues as trap states by employing ELA treatment. We have observed that the electrical characteristics of 300 °C low temperature solution-processed ZTO TFTs could be improved by employing ELA treatment so that it is suitable for flexible display backplane such as glass or plastic substrate.

In this paper, we discuss the threshold based stochastic resonance behavior of binary input, binary output discrete memoryless channels. We follow the basic model of Chapeau-Blondeau where he showed how the addition of external Gaussian noise could enhance channel capacity, thus providing an optimum channel capacity depending on both the threshold level and noise power of the system. In order to easily approximate channel capacity behavior, we use capacity bounds and approximations. © 2012 IEEE.

Scheduling theory and algorithms have been well studied in the real-time systems literature. Many useful approaches and solutions have appeared in different problem domains. While their theoretical effectiveness has been extensively discussed, the community is now facing implementation challenges that show the impact of the algorithms in practice. In this paper, we propose a scheduler framework, called ExSched, which enables different schedulers to be developed for different operating system (OS) platforms without any modifications to the OS itself, using a unified interface. The framework will easily keep up with changes in the kernel since it is only dependent on a few kernel primitives. The usefulness of this framework is that scheduling policies can be implemented as external plug-ins. They can simply use the ExSched interface instead of platform-dependent functions, since platform details are abstracted by ExSched. The advantage for industry is that they would more easily keep up with new kernel versions since ExSched does not require patches. The advantage for academia is that we could focus on the development of schedulers instead of tedious and time-consuming installations of patched kernels. Our prototype implementation of ExSched supports Linux and Vx Works and it comes with example schedulers which include hierarchical and multi-core schedulers in addition to traditional fixed-priority scheduling (FPS) and earliest deadline first (EDF) algorithms.

The IEEE RAS Ontologies for Robotics and Automation Working Group is dedicated to developing a methodology for knowledge representation and reasoning in robotics and automation. As part of this working group, the Autonomous Robots sub-group is tasked with developing ontology modules for autonomous robots. This paper describes the work in progress on the development of ontologies for autonomous systems. For autonomous systems, the focus is on the cooperation, coordination, and communication of multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). The ontologies serve as a framework for working out concepts of employment with multiple vehicles for a variety of operational scenarios with emphasis on collaborative and cooperative missions. © 2012 IEEE.

It is a new approach for coal mine safety warning to perform workface situation pattern classification on multi-sensor time series data. With the increasing number of sensors, the classification algorithms have to work in a high dimensional space. Previous studies have demonstrated that classification performance can be improved in lower dimensional subspaces. So it is necessary to reduce dimensional of coal mine safety data before classification. Marginal Fisher Analysis (MFA) is a novel dimensionality reduction algorithm which firstly designs an intrinsic graph and a penalty graph on sample points and then gets the low dimension embedding through solving a generalized eigenvalue problem. However, the two nearest neighborhood parameters are difficult to select when constructing the two graphs. In this paper, we propose a nonparametric method called Marginal Discriminant Projection (MDP). According to the method, we present a new way to define the marginal points as well as a discriminant criterion. Specifically, we design a penalty graph on the marginal points and their nearest points from different class while an intrinsic graph on the nonmarginal points and their farthest points from same class. By this means, we solve the problem of parameters chosen in MFA. Furthermore, we achieve a direct mapping by solving a generalized eigendecomposition problem. Experiment on several benchmark datasets demonstrated the effectiveness of our proposed method, and appreciate performance was get when applying on coal mine safety data dimensionality reduction.
