We treat tracking as a binary classification task in order to distinguish between an object to be tracked and the background. We propose to integrate an online learning based total-error-rate minimization method (OTER) with an observation model of particle filter for visual tracking. The particle filter is modeled using an affine dynamic model and an observation model. The observation model is constructed using the OTER classifier for binary pattern classification. The proposed method is empirically evaluated both qualitatively and quantitatively using several publicly available video sequences.

This paper proposes a novel circuit topology for AC/DC power converter based on a high frequency universal link. And the operation principles of the circuit are presented. The proposed power converter has small capacitances at DC-links. The reactive components are minimized, and the circuit has advantage of the reduced volume and increased efficiency. Even though the voltage of the Is' DC-link is rectified version of input AC voltage and it is variable, the magnitude of series-connected output voltage is constant on the average sense thanks to so called "sine modulation". The demanded power is transferred by the phase-shift control between the series-connected sine-modulated voltage and the constant 2 nd DC-link voltage. The presented analysis derives the power transfer equation with high-frequency components and some experimental results show the validity of the analysis and the performance of the circuit.

This paper presents a real-time force control strategy for a prosthetic hand. The proposed design is capable of decoding the prerecorded surface electromyographic (sEMG) signal as well as the sensory force feedback from the sensors to control the force of the prosthetic hand prototype. The input sEMG signal is preprocessed using a Half-Gaussian filter with optimized parameters and Chebyshev type II filter. Entropy of the sEMG signal is used as a threshold value to establish the correlation between the sEMG signal and the skeletal muscle force. A simple proportional integral controller along with a two-stage embedded design is used for the force control of the prosthetic hand. The results are transmitted to the computer through the universal asynchronous receiver/ transmitter (UART)interface of the proposed embedded design. The results demonstrate good performance in controlling the force of the prosthetic hand.

Organic field‐effect transistors (OFETs) were fabricated using pentacene thin layer, and the effects of inserted Lewis‐acid thin layers on electrical properties were investigated. The OFETs have active layers of pentacene and vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) as a Lewis‐acid layer. Typical source‐drain current (IDS) vs. source‐drain voltage (VDS) curves were observed under negative gate voltages (VGS) application, and the shift of the threshold voltage for FET driving (Vt) to positive side was also observed by V2O5 layer insertion, that is, ‐2.5 V for device with V2O5 layer and ‐5.7 V for device without V2O5 layer. It was thought that charge transfer (CT) complexes which were formed at the interface between pentacene and V2O5 layer were dissociated by the applied gate voltage, and the generated holes seem to contribute to drain current and the apparent Vt improvement.

Representing an image as a set of its key and interesting lines facilitates the image understanding and classification. In this paper, we propose a method to extract the significant and interesting lines of the scene, which probably are useful in image classification. The proposed method is inspired from the Visual Attention, which is a perceptual mechanism in human and other primates that direct their perceptions to the limited regions of the scene. The attended regions are usually valuable in performing the task. Since the approach of using the lines to classify the images is particularly useful for omnidirectional images, we specialize our method to deal with these kinds of images. In the experiments, we demonstrate how our proposed methods improve the image classification performance with processing only small parts of the input images.

When the vibration of 190.6 Hz and 1m/s 2 is applied to the vibration based electrostatic energy harvester, power densities are measured in the temperature from 30°C to 70°C. Measured power densities don't vary by the temperature change. It is proved that electrostatic energy harvester is resistant to temperature change.

In the future, robots will use various robot H/W platforms and their services will be composed of S/W components. Accordingly, it needs a robot S/W platform that provides standardized components and interfaces for fast robot development. OPRoS (Open Software Platform for Robotics Services) is a robot S/W platform that provides standardized components and interfaces. It uses the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) as communication middleware. In the UPnP protocol, a UPnP control point finds and connects to a UPnP device using the name of the UPnP device. Thus, this mechanism can cause a problem in the multi-SBC or ubiquitous computing environments. Because most robots or ubiquitous computing environments may have components of similar name such as arm, actuator and sensor, a UPnP control point can not distinguish a right one from other components of the same name in this case. In this paper, we define the discovery configuration XML file and propose a component connection mechanism using IP based permission assignment to solve the problem.

DR (Demand response) has an important role in electricity power market by reducing load quantity instead of increasing generation for balancing demand and supply. DR resources are regarded as an extra tool of balancing supply and demand in emergency condition. Also, DR resources can be used in normal condition or used for the purpose of maintaining the reserve rate. Because of the characteristics of Korean electricity market, reliability based DR programs are researched and implemented preferentially. For example, summer vacation period reduction program, DLC (Direct Load control) and demand bidding market were operated for reliability-based DR program. This paper describes novel DR prospects for Korea considering smart grid environment. The Korean electricity community plans to transit the conventional DR system to novel DR system and decides to develop several DR reliability programs more. The novel DR system is composed of forward DR market, day-ahead DR market and real-time DR market. In this paper, time-line, information flows and the specification of proposed reliability based DR program are described briefly.
