Utilizing the reactivity difference between TOPSe and TOPS, we synthesized[email protected]QDs with the composition gradient in a radial direction where ZnSe alleviated lattice strain and ZnS protected QDs from degradation so that we achieved QDs with high QE and photo/chemical stability. In terms of systematic investigation on the relationship between the shell nanostructure and QD stability, we demonstrated that QDs with thick gradient shells exhibited high QE and much enhanced stability against the shell degradation under UV irradiation, ligand exchange, or rigorous purification. This enhanced stability of[email protected]QDs is attributed to the improved uniformity of composition gradient shells, the efficient confinement of exciton wavefunctions, and the minimized surface oxidation and non-radiative decay via surface states generated by photo-oxidation or ligand exchange. Using[email protected]QDs with enhanced stability, we were able to demonstrate InP-based colloidal green-emitting QD-LEDs. Although the current status of[email protected]QDs is not fully optimized to realize practical optoelectronic devices, the approach taken in the present study (i.e., the composition gradient shell structure naturally made from reactivity difference in precursors) will give clues to facilitate the synthesis of InP QDs with advanced nanostructures.

Within the last decade, there has been a growing emphasis on applying human factors principles in the healthcare domain, and although human factors is a well-established scientific discipline, it is still a relatively new concept for the healthcare community. Educating healthcare audiences on the goals, history, and contributions of the human factors discipline may dispel misconceptions;preserve the integrity of this scientific discipline;inform healthcare stakeholders about the value of human factors research;and increase the uptake of human factors principles in the healthcare domain. Panel members will share their views on human factors education for healthcare audiences, including their past experiences, personal successes, and insights on the challenges that remain. Panelists will also engage the audience in an open discussion to generate novel ideas on how to advance the healthcare community's understanding of the human factors discipline.

Abstract In this paper, the relative position parameters of the target spacecraft are obtained by using the vision measurement and the target maneuver positions are calculated through the isochronous interpolation method. Furthermore, new switch control laws under constant thrust are designed for active collision avoidance maneuver of the chaser along a specified trajectory. The switch control laws are obtained based on the acceleration sequences and the working times of thrusters in three axes which can be respectively computed by the time series analysis method. The perturbations and fuel consumptions are addressed during the computation of the working times. The simulation results show that the constant thrust maneuver can effectively guarantee the chaser maneuvering along the specified trajectory.

From field-scale measurements to global climate simulations and remote sensing, the growing body of very large and long time series Earth science data are increasingly difficult to analyze, visualize, and interpret. Data mining, information theoretic, and machine learning techniques—such as cluster analysis, singular value decomposition, block entropy, Fourier and wavelet analysis, phase-space reconstruction, and artificial neural networks—are being applied to problems of segmentation, feature extraction, change detection, model-data comparison, and model validation. The size and complexity of Earth science data exceed the limits of most analysis tools and the capacities of desktop computers. New scalable analysis and visualization tools, running on parallel cluster computers and supercomputers, are required to analyze data of this magnitude. This workshop will demonstrate how data mining techniques are applied in the Earth sciences and describe innovative computer science methods that support analysis and discovery in the Earth sciences.

Abstract In this paper, a risk-sensitive filter for a class of jump Markov nonlinear systems is proposed. By using a set of weighted cubature points to approximate the intractable risk-sensitive recursions, the proposed filter could exhibit improved numerical stability with respect to the derivation of the square-root covariance, for which the unscented transform technique might halt the operations due to the presence of non-positive definite covariance. The performance of the proposed filter is illustrated through a simulation study of tracking a land vehicle with maneuvers.

Alteration in expression levels of genes as well as their regulatory components, such as those levels of miRNAs in cancer cells will likely reflect in the enrichment of unique cellular functions and biological processes in their corresponding cell systems. By employing systems biology approaches, and instead of examining individual gene, we will directly and unambiguously identify the regulatory pathways and biological processes that are distinctive to specific disease states or responses to therapeutic treatment. In this study, we employ gene set enrichment analysis inspired method to explore the functional regulation of miRNAs. The analysis integrated a mathematic model that associates miRNAs to gene sets through miRNA target genes with a statistic test of enrichment to study the regulation change at a specific pathway. Different from conventional individual miRNA processing procedures, our method enables researchers to construct regulation hypothesis at pathway and functional levels.

This paper presents a method to automatically recognize events and driving activities during the use of a powered wheelchair (PW). The method uses a support vector machine classifier, trained from sensor-based data from a datalogging platform installed on the PW. Data from a 3D accelerometer positioned on the back of the PW were collected in a laboratory space during PW driving tasks. 16-segmented events and driving activities (i.e. impacts from different side on different objects, rolling down or up on incline surface, going across threshold of different height) were performed repeatedly (n=25 trials) by one operator at three different speeds (slow, normal, high). We present results from an experiment aiming to classify five different events and driving activities from the sensor data acquired using the datalogging platform. Classification results show the ability of the proposed method to reliably segment 100% of events, and to identify the correct event type in 80% of events.

This paper presents a Gaussian mixture probability hypothesis density (GM-PHD) smoother for tracking multiple maneuvering targets that follow jump Markov models. Unlike the generalization of the multiple model GM-PHD filters, our aim is to approximate the dynamics of the linear Gaussian jump Markov system (LGJMS) by a best-fitting Gaussian (BFG) distribution so that the GM-PHD smoother can be carried out with respect to an approximated linear Gaussian system. Our approach is inspired by the recognition that the BFG approximation provides an accurate performance measure for the LGJMS. Furthermore, the multiple model estimation is avoided and less computational cost is required. The effectiveness of the proposed smoother is verified with a numerical simulation.

In this paper, an adaptive iterative learning control (ILC) scheme is proposed for trajectory tracking of uncertain delay systems based on model matching technique. The reference model is a delay system operating over in a finite time interval. An iterative model matching controller is designed and an iteration domain adaptive law is chosen to estimate the unknown parameters. It shows that the model matching technique can be applied in a straightforward method to ILC problem. A simulation example is included to illustrate the designed scheme.
