This paper presents a new power flow control strategy for a variable speed engine-generator based series hybrid electric vehicle. The specific fuel consumption map of the internal combustion engine (ICE) has been obtained by off-line experiments to achieve optimal fuel efficiency. The proposed power flow controller makes it possible that the ICE operates at its optimal fuel efficiency points without degrading desired dynamic performance. Experimental results of the actual vehicle test as well as the laboratory based load test are shown to verify the proposed power flow control strategy.

Recently, minimizing the standby power is considered as a critical issue in high-density, mobile CMOS technology. One of the major sources of the leakage current in off-state of ultra-small MOSFET is gate-induced drain leakage (GIDL) which is mainly composed of inter-band and trap-assisted tunneling. By virtues of reduced intra-junction and punch-through leakage currents, threshold voltage controllability, and higher current drivability, SOI FinFETs are utilized in most recent CMOS circuits. In this work, half-pitch (HP) 32 nm SOI FinFETs are designed for LSTP considering GIDL by device simulation with regard to junction doping profile. For more accurate results, various models for carrier mobility, gate current, recombination, band-to-band and trap-assisted tunneling, and quantum effects have been activated.

-The dynamic performance quality of SCDCS (Safety Critical Distributed control System) is pertinent to its dependability. To achieve the prescribed dynamic performance, a performance index describing converged speed of system states is established based on the model-building of SCDCS that is networked on its state feedback loop. Meanwhile, a sufficient condition, which can guarantee SCDCS to be asymptotically stable under prescribed performance constraints, is derived by employment of the Lyapunov theory and the matrix measurement. Based on the condition, an algorithm for obtaining maximum allowable transfer interval is presented. Results of simulation indicate that the design method is less conservative and can not only guarantees system asymptotically stable, but also make it have desired dynamic performance.

The development of cross-coupled bandpass filters and a duplexer for W-band transceiver applications on a thin-film substrate is presented. The filter is designed at 94 GHz using the cross-coupling method on a planar thin-film microstrip (TFMS) line platform and fabricated with a thin-film multichip module technology. The developed filter has an insertion loss of 2.5 dB with a 3-dB fractional bandwidth of 12.8%. Combining two cross-coupled filters with T-junction matching, a simple W-band duplexer is developed. The two channels of the duplexer are centered at 80 GHz and 94 GHz having channel bandwidth of 6.5 GHz and 6.7 GHz, respectively, with insertion loss less than 4.3 dB in both channel. The developed passives are compact and show good matching, selectivity, and isolation characteristics, and are suitable for low-cost W-band front-end integration.

Polynomials are one of the most powerful functions that have been used in many fields of mathematics such as curve fitting and regression. Low order polynomials are desired for their smoothness, good local approximation and interpolation. Being smooth, they can be used to locally approximate almost any derivable function. This means that when linear functions fail in approximation (e.g. where the first order Taylor expansion equals zero) polynomial functions can be used in local approximation, such that one can achieve better estimations at extremums. In this paper, application of polynomial kernel functions in locally linear neurofuzzy models is shown. Using polynomial kernels in local models, better local approximations in prediction of chaotic time series such as Mackey-Glass is achieved, and the capability of the neurofuzzy network is enhanced.

Piezoelectric-stack actuated platforms are utilized in many nanopositioning applications. Their performance is limited by their low-frequency resonance due to the mechanical construction as well as piezoelectric nonlinear effects. We propose a hybrid control scheme comprising a loop-shaping H infin controller and an inversion-based feedforward control scheme, capable of delivering accurate nanopositioning performance at relatively high speeds, upto 40 Hz. It is shown that the implemented control strategy is robust in the presence of uncertainty in resonance frequency due to loading. It is also shown that by employing charge actuation on the fast axis and integral tracking control on the slow axis, accurate raster scans can be obtained. Experimental results that show resonance damping, integral tracking action as well as the robustness of the implemented control scheme to resonance frequency uncertainty are presented. Finally, raster scans recorded at 10 Hz, 20 Hz and 40 Hz are presented to show the achievable positioning performance.

A framework for modeling, analyzing and synthesizing nuclear safeguards information with various uncertainties is proposed by using a newly developed belief rule-base inference methodology (RIMER). After a hierarchical analysis of States' nuclear activities on the basis of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) physical model, the multi-layer structure of the evaluation model for States' nuclear activities is outlined. The special emphasis is given to the synthesis and evaluation analysis of the physical model indicator information by RIMER, which handles hybrid uncertain information in nuclear safeguards evaluation process. The proposed framework illustrates and clarifies the inference and synthesis formalism from a case study of nuclear safeguards information evaluation.

Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are envisaged to be a key enabling technology for next generation wireless networks. The mesh nodes form the backbone connectivity, performing the dual tasks of packet forwarding as well as providing network access to the mesh clients. In this paper we present a new MAC protocol based on a star-mesh topology, which is compatible with the IEEE 802.16e-2005 Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) air interface. In this protocol, the same radio resource can be shared by neighboring cells in the WMN and collisions can be reduced in the overlapping areas. In addition, a Markov chain model is developed for analyzing this protocol operating in two overlapping cells. With this model, we analyze the performance of the uplink operating in the OFDMA mode. This new scheme resolves collisions using subcarrier allocation, thereby eliminating the need for random backoff intervals that increase latency and delay variability. As such, the scheme may be more suited for real-time traffic such as voice and video. The analytical results match very well with the simulation results. We then extend our model to a star-mesh topology with multiple overlapped regions. Simulation results show that the capacity can be improved due to the superior ability of our proposed protocol to deal with collisions in the overlapped regions.
