Multicarrier Waveform(MCW)has several advantages and plays a very important role in cellular *** generation(5G)MCW such as Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access(NOMA)and Filter Bank Multicarrier(FBMC)are thought to be important in 5G *** Peak to Average Power Ratio(PAPR)is seen as a serious concern in MCW since it reduces the efficiency of amplifier use in the user *** paper presents a novel Divergence Selective Mapping(DSLM)and Divergence Partial Transmission Sequence(D-PTS)for 5G *** is seen that the proposed D-SLM and PTS lower PAPR with low computational *** work highlighted a combination of multi-data block partial transmit schemes along with tone *** this,an overlapping factor is used to determine the number of data blocks for every ***,considering only those data blocks that have minimum signal power,the use of DSLM and DPTS are required to eliminate the segment’s *** results reveal that the suggested hybrid technique proves to be better than the conventional PTS ***,the power saving performance of FBMC and NOMA is compared with the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM)waveform.

Dear Editor,This letter deals with a solution for time-varying problems using an intelligent computational(IC)algorithm driven by a novel decentralized machine learning approach called isomerism *** order to meet the challenges of the model’s privacy and security brought by traditional centralized learning models,a private permissioned blockchain is utilized to decentralize the model in order to achieve an effective coordination,thereby ensuring the credibility of the overall model without exposing the specific parameters and solution process.

Smart soft dielectric elastomer actuators(SSDEAs)possess wide applications in soft robotics due to their properties similar to natural muscles,including large deformation ratio,high energy density,and fast response ***,the complicated asymmetric and rate-dependent hysteresis property,creep property and quadratic input property of the SSDEA pose enormous challenges to its dynamic modeling and motion *** this paper,first,we construct the dynamic model of the SSDEA by connecting a square module,a one-sided Prandtl–Ishlinskii(OSPI)model and a linear system in series to describe the above *** key and innovative aspect of the dynamic modeling lies in cascading the square module in series with the OSPI model to construct the asymmetric hysteresis ***,a PI-funnel and inverse hysteresis compensation(PIFIHC)cascade control method of the SSDEA is proposed to actualize its tracking control *** performing the inversion operation on the asymmetric hysteresis model,the inverse hysteresis compensation controller(IHCC)is designed to compensate the asymmetric hysteresis property and quadratic input property of the *** addition,a PI-funnel controller is designed to cascade with the IHCC to construct the PIFIHC cascade controller to obtain a good tracking ***,the stability analysis of the PIFIHC cascade control system of the SSDEA is performed to theoretically prove that the tracking error can be controlled within the performance funnel and the steady-state error converges to ***,several practical tracking control experiments of the SSDEA are conducted,and RRMSEs are less than 2.30%for all *** experimental results indicate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed PIFIHC cascade control method of the SSDEA.

AoI-aware Sensing Scheduling and Trajectory Optimization for Multi-UAV-assisted Wireless Backscatter Networks

This paper considers multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to assist sensing data transmissions from the ground users (GUs) to a remote base station (BS). Each UAV collects sensing data from the GUs and then forwards the sensing data to the remote BS. The GUs first backscatter their data to the UAVs and then all UAVs forward data to the BS by the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) transmissions. We formulate a multi-stage stochastic optimization problem to minimize the long-term time-averaged age-of-information (AoI) by jointly optimizing the GUs’ access control, the UAVs’ beamforming, and trajectory planning strategies. To solve this problem, we first model the dynamics of the GUs’ AoI statuses by virtual queueing systems, and then propose the AoI-aware sensing scheduling and trajectory optimization (AoI-STO) algorithm. This allows us to transform the multi-stage AoI minimization problem into a series of per-slot control problems by using the Lyapunov optimization framework. In each time slot, the GUs’ access control, the UAVs’ beamforming, and mobility control strategies are updated by using the block coordinate descent (BCD) method according to the instant GUs’ AoI statuses. Simulation results reveal that the proposed AoI-STO algorithm can reduce the overall AoI by more than 50%. The GUs’ scheduling fairness is also improved greatly by adapting the GUs’ access control compared with typical baseline schemes. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

For monitoring the paste concentration, existing techniques, such as ultrasonic concentration meters and neutron meters, suffer from radiation hazards and low precision in high concentrations. This paper proposes a novel non-contact concentration measurement method based on deep learning. With the dataset collected by preparing the paste with different concentrations and taking photographs from the paste surface, a convolutional neural network is trained to extract the features from images and predict the concentration. The experiments indicate that the measurement accuracy is close to 88.79 % for the manual stirring paste dataset and 91.42 % for the automatic stirring paste dataset, which are sufficient in industrial applications. As a substitution of traditional concentration measurement instruments, the proposed vision-based concentration measurement method is non-contact and its accuracy is sufficient in industrial applications. © 2024 IEEE.

Extended Reality (XR) applications, which may encompass Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), commonly involve immersive virtual environments that are based on real physical environments. Transmitting the extensive color and depth image data for representing a physical environment over a communication network to create a corresponding immersive environment at a remote location is very challenging due to the enormous data volumes and the time constraints of real-time immersion. We explore semantic compression, which conveys the semantic meaning of the data through color-codes (CCs) to reduce the transmitted data volume. The creation of an immersive environment conventionally involves five steps (with corresponding output): calibration (single-frame point cloud), registration (registered point cloud), volume reconstruction (voxel frame), marching cubes (meshes), and rendering (3D environment). We develop the novel cXR+ semantic compression that splits the volume reconstruction into a client-side virtual network function (VNF) that represents the registered point cloud as CCs for network transmission to a server-side VNF that decodes the CCs to obtain the voxel frames so as to complete the volume reconstruction. We consider an analogous splitting of the calibration into two VNFs with Graph Coloring (GC) compression of the color and depth image data as a comparison benchmark. Additionally, we consider the transmission of the raw and JPG compressed point cloud data as well as the volume reconstruction at the client-side and subsequent transmission of the voxel frames as benchmarks. We conduct measurements of the compression (computing) time, transmission time, compression ratio, and reconstruction accuracy for real-world data sets so as to elucidate the trade-offs in employing voxel-based semantic compression for transmitting immersive environments over communication networks. © 2013 IEEE.

In this paper we investigate applying two deep generative models to digital halftoning with the aim of generating halftones with comparable quality to those generated with the direct binary search (DBS) algorithm. For the first framework, we apply conditional generative adversarial networks (cGANs) using two discriminators with different receptive field size and a generator consisting of densely connected blocks. For the second framework, deep autoregressive (AR) models, we propose mapping input images into a feature space using a single forward pass of a deep neural network and then applying a shallow autoregressive model at the end output. Our methods show promising results;halftones generated with our algorithms are less noisy than those generated with DBS screen and do not contain artifacts commonly associated with error diffusion type algorithms. © 2022, Society for Imaging Science and Technology.

Polarimetric Phased Array Radar (PAR) technology is being considered for next-generation meteorological observations supporting research and operations. One of the most important PAR capabilities for high temporal resolution observations is the beam broadening on transmission ('spoiled beam') and simultaneous reception through digital beamforming. In this paper, we present a polarimetric antenna pattern synthesis method that considers distinct antenna element patterns radiated at the horizontal (H) and vertical (V) polarizations. The mismatch in element-level H/V copolar antenna patterns has a direct impact on the farfield transmit beams that can bias polarimetric variables. The synthesis optimization searches for independent sets of phase-only element excitations for the H and V polarizations, such that farfield intentionally broadened antenna patterns are matched. Preliminary results show that mismatches integrated over the transmit beam mainlobe can be reduced from approximately 1.87 dB to 0.28 dB at broadside. Simulation results indicate that improving H/V beam matching mitigates biases in the copolar correlation coefficient. © 2024 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT) detects context through sensors capturing data from dynamic physical environments, in order to inform automation decisions within cyber physical systems (CPS). Diverse types of uncertainty in the IoT pipeline can propagate within and across nodes, involving complex interactions with security, privacy, and trust that remain largely unexplored. This paper conducts an in-depth analysis of the types of uncertainties in IoT and how they propagate within IoT nodes and networks. We consider adversarial uncertainty in the context of distributed IoT networks to capture perturbations due to malicious actors in the network that can influence IoT security, privacy and trust. We examine the propagation of adversarial uncertainty and well-known uncertainty types, namely aleatoric and epistemic uncertainty, within the five distinct stages of sensing, communication, storage, processing and decision-making in an IoT pipeline, across network layer boundaries, and across nodes within an IoT network. Using this mapping, we analyse the interactions between the uncertainty types and their propagation, and security, privacy, and trust in IoT. Based on this analysis, we discuss guidelines and considerations for mitigating uncertainty in IoT through a smart grid use case study. © The Author(s) 2024.
