Artificial Intelligence Techniques with Digital Twin for Fault Diagnosis in Interconnected systems: A Review

As industrial systems become more complex and interconnected, diagnosing faults accurately and in real time has become increasingly challenging. This paper explores how combining artificial intelligence with digital twin technology can address these challenges. We focus on developing hybrid Artificial intelligence models that leverage diverse data sources to enhance fault detection and diagnosis, enabling secure and distributed diagnostics. Digital twins, virtual models of physical systems, are shown to enhance predictive maintenance and decision-making by providing real-time system insights. What sets our work apart is the way we integrate these technologies to create scalable, adaptive, and context-aware diagnostic solutions. We demonstrate the potential of this approach across applications such as smart grids, manufacturing, and autonomous systems. Our goal is to provide researchers and practitioners with a practical and forward-looking framework for developing intelligent, reliable fault diagnosis systems in today’s data-rich industrial environments. © 2013 IEEE.

This paper presents an integrated multiscopic cyber-physical-social system (CPSS) for evaluating physical and cognitive aspects in an independent block-design test (BDT). First, we utilize a hand tracker to extract physical features at the microscopic level, such as hand posture during manipulation. Second, an egocentric vision incorporating an eye tracker describes perceptual representation at the mesoscopic level. This system represents hand-eye coordination by measuring the distance between the hand and the center of visual attention during the test. Thirdly, an upper table vision system uses color feature recognition in each block to evaluate cognition at the macroscopic level. This system detects the blocks and recognizes that the design matches the task given. By evaluating eight designs of WAIS-IV BDT, our system has demonstrated its ability to measure physical and cognitive variables during the BDT successfully. Energy storage systems (ESSs) are vital in various applications, including electric vehicles (EVs) and microgrids. In comparison, lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are widely used in ESSs, and challenges such as power density, thermal management, and cell voltage balance prompt the exploration of alternative solutions. Integrating supercapacitors (SCs) alongside batteries in hybrid energy storage systems (HESS) presents a promising solution. SCs can provide high bursts of power, extending battery lifespan and improving efficiency, especially during high-demand scenarios like acceleration and braking. Optimizing energy management strategies (EMS) is crucial to minimize operational costs and ensure practical battery usage within HESS. Different driving cycles, such as the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) and World Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), provide insights into real-world driving conditions. HESS configurations and operational modes, including traction and regenerative braking, are essential for efficient EV operation. This study uses simulation models to investigate EVs' performance with HESS under various driving conditions, highlighting the system's stability and adaptability.

In Software-Defined Networks(SDNs),determining how to efficiently achieve Quality of Service(QoS)-aware routing is challenging but critical for significantly improving the performance of a network,where the metrics of QoS can be defined as,for example,average latency,packet loss ratio,and *** SDN controller can use network statistics and a Deep Reinforcement Learning(DRL)method to resolve this *** this paper,we formulate dynamic routing in an SDN as a Markov decision process and propose a DRL algorithm called the Asynchronous Advantage Actor-Critic QoS-aware Routing Optimization Mechanism(AQROM)to determine routing strategies that balance the traffic loads in the *** can improve the QoS of the network and reduce the training time via dynamic routing strategy updates;that is,the reward function can be dynamically and promptly altered based on the optimization objective regardless of the network topology and traffic *** can be considered as one-step optimization and a black-box routing mechanism in high-dimensional input and output sets for both discrete and continuous states,and actions with respect to the operations in the *** simulations were conducted using OMNeT++and the results demonstrated that AQROM 1)achieved much faster and stable convergence than the Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient(DDPG)and Advantage Actor-Critic(A2C),2)incurred a lower packet loss ratio and latency than Open Shortest Path First(OSPF),DDPG,and A2C,and 3)resulted in higher and more stable throughput than OSPF,DDPG,and A2C.

The success of deep learning on solving a multitude of different problems has highlighted the importance of explainability. In many critical applications, such as in medicine, deep learning cannot be ethically, or lawfully utilized due to its intrinsic opacity. On the other hand, description logics and knowledge representation technologies provide a transparent and interepretable framework for describing and classifying data. In this paper we present a methodology for utilizing description logics for explaining black-box classifiers. Specifically, given a dataset, a knowledge which describes it and a black-box classifier, we attempt to mimic the black-box with conjunctive queries over the knowledge. These queries are then presented as global explanations of the black-box classifier. © 2021 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

The integration of information communication technology with the power grid exposes it to cyber threats. The network state estimation process provides stability to the smart grid. The communication network plays a major role in ensuring the successful transmission of state information. However, these network measurements are vulnerable to malicious attacks. This subsequently affects the network measurement such as associated high transmission delays and packet losses affecting the reliability of the smart grid. In this work, we propose a hybrid physics-based data-driven model that uses data fusion from the state-of-the-art physics-based Network State Estimation model and a data-driven model to detect false data injection attacks in the communication network layer of the smart grid. The performance of the data fusion method is evaluated and the simulation results show that the proposed model outperforms the standalone approaches in the detection of bad data. This shows that the proposed scheme is able to improve the cyber-physical security of the communication network layer of the smart grid.

The integration of communication networks within modern power systems enhances the control of modern power systems; however, it increases the system's complexity. This interdependence raises the need to analyze power systems as cyber-physical systems (CPS). Microgrids (MGs) play a vital role in modern power systems, facilitating sustainable operation while decreasing the reliance on the main grid. Different distributed energy resources can be integrated by utilizing power electronics inverters working under grid-forming mode; this configuration forms the inverter-based autonomous AC microgrids. Droop control as a primary control layer is a wellknown technique that enables power-sharing among the various resources within the inverter-based MG. However, it has a limitation in keeping the system voltage and frequency constant. Thus, a secondary control layer is introduced to compensate for the droop limitations. This paper presents an innovative study that considers the communication network performance while studying the control of MGs through a cyber hardware-in-theloop (Cyber-HIL) autonomous inverter-based MG framework that integrates Opal-rt, network simulator ns-3, and docker containers. The effectiveness of the designed MG system equipped with its primary and the developed centralized secondary control system, in addition to the quality of service (QoS) of the designed communication network emulation, are presented in the experimental results.

This paper surveys the communication networksbased control of cyber-physical microgrids (MGs), including the different architectures of MGs, the control system, and the communication networks within the MGs. The proposed work introduces an overview of the AC, DC, and hybrid AC/DC architectures, highlighting the challenges in the control systems used for each architecture. Focusing on the hierarchical control structure of MGs, we demonstrate the vital role of communication infrastructure in the resilient control of MGs to coordinate between the primary, secondary, and tertiary layers for achieving the control objective. The requirements for communication networks and their influence on MGs' reliable and secure operation are also presented. We have investigated the impact of communication delays, failures, and packet loss on the control system's performance. This survey offers insights into the effects of communication infrastructure on efficient and robust control of cyber-physical MGs in dynamic energy environments.

Document Image Dewarping (DID) task aims to address the issue of geometry distortion and improve image quality. In this paper, we propose a simple but effective method, named DocHFormer, that can take hierarchical priors features of images, including document image mask and coordinate positions, as additional information to realize accurate representation. To better exploit these fused information for dewarping, we take them into a harmonized space random shuffle operation, which can stochastically rearrange the pixels across spatial space and further use inverse operation to recover the original order. This way can adapt to allocate each feature pixel with equal probability and thus make full use of multi-type features. Furthermore, we introduce this mechanism into local self-attention to use linear complexity to input resolution and also design a new feed-forward network with structural modeling to boost representation. With the help of the above components, our proposed DocHFormer can achieve competitive performance with lower complexity and also outperform the existing state-of-the-art on several popular datasets. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an emerging software engineering development method through AB testing experiments. As a commonly used online experimental method, AB testing is used to compare the performance of two or more solutions. It has been widely used in the software development process to optimize user experience and function implementation. This study proposes a new development framework that combines AB testing and software testing, which quantifies the impact of different development strategies on software quality by constructing a correlation matrix. In order to verify the effectiveness of this method, this paper designed a series of experiments and implemented AB testing in multiple software projects. Experimental results show that by accurately adjusting the variable combinations in AB testing, software stability and user satisfaction can be significantly improved. In addition, this paper also develops a set of computer algorithm models to simulate different development scenarios and predict the potential benefits of new development methods through simulation technology. Through the analysis of simulation results, this article found that projects using new development methods have improved in key performance indicators, especially in shortening development cycles and reducing defect rates. The development method that combines AB testing and software testing not only improves the quality of software products, but also enhances the flexibility and response speed of the development process. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).
