This study presents an experimental investigation of the impulse breakdown characteristics of natural ester oil, in its pure form, and as the base liquid for a nanofluid with Fe203 nanoparticles (0.050% w/w). A two-stage impulse voltage generator and a combination wave generator have been used to determine the distribution of the breakdown voltage and time to breakdown;a standard test-cell per IEC 60897 and a custom-made metal fixture were employed for that purpose. Experimental results are discussed with emphasis given to the response time of the iron oxide nanofluid when compared to the base liquid. © 2024 IEEE.

Extreme heat has become a common phenomenon especially the summer months. Dense urban environments suffer greatly from extreme heat events, which makes the everyday life of citizens difficult. For the more vulnerable population, such as the elderly, extreme heat waves can become dangerous for their health and even lethal. The study employs a Future Heat Risk Index to evaluate potential heat-related vulnerabilities under different climate change scenarios, particularly Representative Concentration Pathway 8.5 for the year 2040. Through the integration of climate change projections and spatial analysis, the research identifies areas at high risk of heat-related impacts and prioritizes mitigation strategies. Key findings underscore the importance of proactive planning and adaptation measures in enhancing resilience to extreme heat events, particularly in Mediterranean cities like those in Attica, Greece. The proposed mitigation strategies include implementation of vegetation enhancement and cold materials installation. The effects of both strategies are compared and discussed, highlighting the importance of incorporating climate change scenarios into decision-making processes to safeguard public health and well-being in a warming climate. © 2024 IEEE.

Within the electronic design automation(EDA) domain, artificial intelligence(AI)-driven solutions have emerged as formidable tools, yet they typically augment rather than redefine existing methodologies. These solutions often repurpose deep learning models from other domains, such as vision, text, and graph analytics, applying them to circuit design without tailoring to the unique complexities of electronic circuits. Such an “AI4EDA” approach falls short of achieving a holistic design synthesis and understanding,overlooking the intricate interplay of electrical, logical, and physical facets of circuit data. This study argues for a paradigm shift from AI4EDA towards AI-rooted EDA from the ground up, integrating AI at the core of the design process. Pivotal to this vision is the development of a multimodal circuit representation learning technique, poised to provide a comprehensive understanding by harmonizing and extracting insights from varied data sources, such as functional specifications, register-transfer level(RTL) designs, circuit netlists,and physical layouts. We champion the creation of large circuit models(LCMs) that are inherently multimodal, crafted to decode and express the rich semantics and structures of circuit data, thus fostering more resilient, efficient, and inventive design methodologies. Embracing this AI-rooted philosophy, we foresee a trajectory that transcends the current innovation plateau in EDA, igniting a profound “shift-left” in electronic design methodology. The envisioned advancements herald not just an evolution of existing EDA tools but a revolution, giving rise to novel instruments of design-tools that promise to radically enhance design productivity and inaugurate a new epoch where the optimization of circuit performance, power, and area(PPA) is achieved not incrementally, but through leaps that redefine the benchmarks of electronic systems' capabilities.

Background Three-dimensional(3D)shape representation using mesh data is essential in various applications,such as virtual reality and simulation *** methods for extracting features from mesh edges or faces struggle with complex 3D models because edge-based approaches miss global contexts and face-based methods overlook variations in adjacent areas,which affects the overall *** address these issues,we propose the Feature Discrimination and Context Propagation Network(FDCPNet),which is a novel approach that synergistically integrates local and global features in mesh *** FDCPNet is composed of two modules:(1)the Feature Discrimination Module,which employs an attention mechanism to enhance the identification of key local features,and(2)the Context Propagation Module,which enriches key local features by integrating global contextual information,thereby facilitating a more detailed and comprehensive representation of crucial areas within the mesh *** Experiments on popular datasets validated the effectiveness of FDCPNet,showing an improvement in the classification accuracy over the baseline ***,even with reduced mesh face numbers and limited training data,FDCPNet achieved promising results,demonstrating its robustness in scenarios of variable complexity.

In this paper, we present the Rollick Games platform and its Pervasive Game Modeling Language that enables the description of location-based pervasive games using a GUI provided by the Game Studio web app. The runtime environment (Pervasive Game Execution Environment) is responsible for generating the Pervasive Game Execution Language from a game model and loading it to an instance of the game's Execution Engine. The Execution Environment includes a set of agents responsible for monitoring the players’ context and interaction with other game elements and among each other. The Engine follows an event-driven paradigm and uses an event loop waiting for events to be dispatched from the agents to carry out its computations based on its current state, context, and event data. The proposed approach allows for both sharing and reusing game models, significantly reducing time to market and development costs. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Price prediction is one of the examples related to forecasting tasks and is a project based on data science. Price prediction analyzes data and predicts the cost of new products. The goal of this research is to achieve an arrangement to predict the price of a cellphone based on its specifications. So, five deep learning models are proposed to predict the price range of a cellphone, one unimodal and four multimodal approaches. The multimodal methods predict the prices based on the graphical and non-graphical features of cellphones that have an important effect on their valorizations. Also, to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed methods, a cellphone dataset has been gathered from GSMArena. The experimental results show 88.3% F1-score, which confirms that multimodal learning leads to more accurate predictions than state-of-the-art techniques. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Predefined-time distributed multiobjective optimization for network resource allocation

We consider the multiobjective optimization problem for the resource allocation of the multiagent network, where each agent contains multiple conflicting local objective functions. The goal is to find compromise solutions minimizing all local objective functions subject to resource constraints as much as possible, i.e., the Pareto optimums. To this end, we first reformulate the multiobjective optimization problem into one single-objective distributed optimization problem by using the weighted Lppreference index,where the weighting factors of all local objective functions are obtained from the optimization procedure so that the optimizer of the latter is the desired Pareto optimum of the former. Next, we propose novel predefined-time algorithms to solve the reformulated problem by time-based generators. We show that the reformulated problem is solved within a predefined time if the local objective functions are strongly convex and smooth. Moreover, the settling time can be arbitrarily preset since it does not depend on the initial values and designed parameters. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

In this paper, a hollow-core anti-resonant optical fibre containing a semi-elliptical nested tube is proposed, which has the characteristics of single-polarization, large bandwidth, single-mode and low confinement loss. By optimizing the structural design, the polarization extinction ratio (PER) of the fiber reaches 21,0183 at a wavelength of 1.55 μm, and the y-polarized fundamental mode loss is only 0.00086 dB/m. By changing the material and thickness of the semi-ellipsoidal nested tube, a large bandwidth of 280 nm was achieved in the wavelength range of 1.51-1.78 μm, with loss limited to less than 0.001 dB/m within the bandwidth range. The PER and higher-order mode extinction ratio of 4870, 1487, respectively. The loss remains below 0.01 dB/m when the bending radius exceeds 4.5 cm. Therefore, it is expected that this optical fiber can be used in optical devices such as fiber optic sensors, fiber optic lasers and fiber optic gyroscopes. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Skinned Motion Retargeting with Preservation of Body Part Relationships

Motion retargeting is an active research area in computer graphics and animation, allowing for the transfer of motion from one character to another, thereby creating diverse animated character data. While this technology has numerous applications in animation, games, and movies, current methods often produce unnatural or semantically inconsistent motion when applied to characters with different shapes or joint counts. This is primarily due to a lack of consideration for the geometric and spatial relationships between the body parts of the source and target characters. To tackle this challenge, we introduce a novel spatially-preserving Skinned Motion Retargeting Network (SMRNet) capable of handling motion retargeting for characters with varying shapes and skeletal structures while maintaining semantic consistency. By learning a hybrid representation of the character's skeleton and shape in a rest pose, SMRNet transfers the rotation and root joint position of the source character's motion to the target character through embedded rest pose feature alignment. Additionally, it incorporates a differentiable loss function to further preserve the spatial consistency of body parts between the source and target. Precise polyp segmentation is vital for the early diagnosis and prevention of colorectal cancer(CRC)in clinical ***,due to scale variation and blurry polyp boundaries,it is still a challenging task to achieve satisfactory segmentation performance with different scales and *** this study,we present a novel edge-aware feature aggregation network(EFA-Net)for polyp segmentation,which can fully make use of cross-level and multi-scale features to enhance the performance of polyp ***,we first present an edge-aware guidance module(EGM)to combine the low-level features with the high-level features to learn an edge-enhanced feature,which is incorporated into each decoder unit using a layer-by-layer ***,a scale-aware convolution module(SCM)is proposed to learn scale-aware features by using dilated convolutions with different ratios,in order to effectively deal with scale ***,a cross-level fusion module(CFM)is proposed to effectively integrate the cross-level features,which can exploit the local and global contextual ***,the outputs of CFMs are adaptively weighted by using the learned edge-aware feature,which are then used to produce multiple side-out segmentation *** results on five widely adopted colonoscopy datasets show that our EFA-Net outperforms state-of-the-art polyp segmentation methods in terms of generalization and *** implementation code and segmentation maps will be publicly at https://***/taozh2017/EFANet.
