In this correspondence, we investigate an information-bearing reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system. In this system, the RIS is segmented into multiple sub-RIS units, each serving as a passive transmitter to deliver information to users via extended backscatter modulation under the NOMA scheme. We aim to maximize the system's weighted sum rate (WSR) by jointly optimizing the active beamformer at the power beacon (PB) and the RIS coefficient vectors, while adhering to constraints related to PB transmission power, RIS coefficients, successive interference cancellation (SIC) decoding rate, and rate fairness. Extensive simulation results verify the feasibility and superiority of the proposed scheme. © 2025 IEEE.

In this study, the home energy management problem, which can be regarded as a high-dimensional optimization problem, for numerous residential houses, is addressed. The concept of the aggregator is utilized to reduce the state and action space and to handle the high dimensionality. A two-stage deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based approach is proposed for the aggregators to track the schedule from a superior grid and guarantee the operation constraints. In the first stage, a DRL control agent is set to learn the optimal scheduling strategy interacting with the environment based on the soft-actor-critic framework and generate the aggregate control actions. In the second stage, the aggregate control actions are disaggregated to individual appliances considering the users' behaviors. The uncertainty of an electric vehicle's charging demand is quantitatively expressed based on the driver's experience. An aggregate anxiety concept is introduced to characterize the driver's anxiety on the electric vehicle's range and uncertain events. Finally, simulations are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach under dynamic user behaviors, and comparisons show the superiority of the proposed approach over other benchmark methods.

The rapid advancement in mobile broadband technology has evolved wireless infrastructure influencing internet-of-things (IoTs). This evolution has made mobile IoTs (mIoTs) as centre of attention due to its potential of providing seamless connectivity to enable intelligent transportation systems with huge data demands of vehicular users. To address the ever-escalating data demands of vehicular mobile users, vehicular edge computing (VEC) and moving small cells (mSCs) play a pivotal role. mSCs together with VEC are capable to provide improved service quality for mIoTs. However, incorporating the mSCs in vehicles for mIoTs presents challenges while assigning the resources in mIoT-mSC network. This is due to the existence of time varying interference among mSCs. This work explores the distributed resource assignment mechanism for RSU assisted mIoT-mSC network formed in vehicular environment. In the proposed work, location prediction of city buses deployed with mSCs is done using federated learning (FL) which is subsequently utilized for efficient assignment of resources in mIoT-mSC network. Numerical results are provided to validate the proposed resource assignment mechanism.

This paper considers the problem of set-based state estimation for linear time-invariant (LTI) systems under time-varying sensor attacks. Provided that the LTI system is stable and observable via every single sensor and that at least one sensor is uncompromised, we guarantee that the true state is always contained in the estimated set. We use zonotopes to represent these sets for computational efficiency. However, we show that intelligently designed stealthy attacks may cause exponential growth in the algorithm’s worst-case complexity. We present several strategies to handle this complexity issue and illustrate our resilient zonotope-based state estimation algorithm on a rotating target system. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. Depressive Disorders (DD) is one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the world that may lead to suicide cases. To prevent the latter, ubiquitous early detection systems may be effective. Recent studies have since researched the development of such systems by exploiting several forms of data, including video, audio, Ecological Momentary Assessments (EMA), and passive sensing data using sensors embedded in mobile devices. To summarize the trends, opportunities, and existing challenges in this field, this study reviewed 15 papers to answer four research questions. EMA was the most popular data to be used in this task, but other approaches, such as using video, audio, and typing behaviors, may be considered due to the subjectivity of EMA. These data were typically recorded using smartphones and analyzed using Machine Learning (ML). However, most of the developed systems had yet to be implemented. Overall, it was concluded that further studies may need to explore usages of more objective data in multimodal approaches as well as consider using Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) to deploy these systems to provide more effective and efficient diagnoses. Future studies must also take into account the existing challenges of the data and infrastructures, such as the weaknesses of several data types, limitations of mobile devices, as well as the challenges of diagnosis approaches.

The task of detecting fraud in credit card transactions is crucial to ensure the security and stability of a financial system, as well as to enforce customer confidence in digital payment systems. Historically, credit card companies have used rule-based approaches to detect fraudulent transactions, but these have proven inadequate due to the complexity of fraud strategies and have been replaced by much more powerful solutions based on machine learning or deep learning algorithms. Despite significant progress, the current approaches to fraud detection suffer from a number of limitations: for example, it is unclear whether some transaction features are more effective than others in discriminating fraudulent transactions, and they often neglect possible correlations among transactions, even though they could reveal illicit behaviour. In this paper, we propose a novel credit card fraud detection (CCFD) method based on a transaction behaviour-based hierarchical gated network. First, we introduce a feature-oriented extraction module capable of identifying key features from original transactions, and such analysis is effective in revealing the behavioural characteristics of fraudsters. Second, we design a transaction-oriented extraction module capable of capturing the correlation between users' historical and current transactional behaviour. Such information is crucial for revealing users' sequential behaviour patterns. Our approach, called transactional-behaviour-based hierarchical gated network model (TbHGN), extracts two types of new transactional features, which are then combined in a feature interaction module to learn the final transactional representations used for CCFD. We have conducted extensive experiments on a real-world credit card transaction dataset with an increase in average F1 between 1.42% and 6.53% and an improvement in average AUC between 0.63% and 2.78% over the state of the art. © 2025 Institute of electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have seen interesting applications in the agricultural sectors over the last few decades. Researchers have demonstrated that DL-based solutions are more accurate than previous classical techniques. Currently, weed control has received increased attention due to its potential to increase agricultural productivity. The weeds occlusion, variation in weather conditions, complex scenes background, and failures to transfer learning opened up a new world for researchers in this domain. This work aims to develop a fusion technique based on transfer learning to identify and localize more than 20 types of weeds in Morocco. Our strategy uses a data merging technique to address the needs of the actual agricultural field. In this regard, the you only look once (YOLOv5) framework was trained on a dynamic dataset with interventions, which results in a reasonable mean average precision (mAP) exceeding 96.38% and a precision of 97.95% with a recall value of 93.25% on the validation set. Therefore, the selection of the dataset demonstrates the robustness of this research as it contains images collected in real agricultural environments with a specific range of standards, which robots can use to effectively control weeds in real environments.

In this paper, a 5000 kW grid-connected photovoltaic system of Haft-Hoze Natural Park, 7 km southeast of Mashhad City, has been designed and simulated. This power plant is for two monofacial and bifacial systems in both fixed and tilted planes and trackers modes in PVSYST software. It is simulated and designed and the simulation data is compared in both cases. In this paper, the effect of temperature on solar panel performance is investigated first. This work has been done in three stages. At first, by keeping the solar radiation constant, the effect of temperature on the output performance of the panel. In the next step, the P-V curves at different ambient temperatures and changes in solar radiation have been investigated. In the following, it shows the effect of PV panel temperature on PV panel output performance at different intensities of solar radiation. The simulation results of the 5000 kW solar power plant, in a fixed tilted plane for the monofacial system, energy injected into the grid and performance ratio are 8291 MWh and 0.850. The bifacial system, energy injected into the grid, and performance ratio are 8730 MWh and 0.896. In the Trackers mode, for the monofacial system, energy injected to the grid and performance ratio are 9558 MWh and 0.838. For the bifacial system, energy injected into the grid and performance ratio are 10025 MWh and 0.880.

The millimeter wave (mmWave) radar sensing-aided communications in vehicular mobile communication systems is investigated. To alleviate the beam training overhead under high mobility scenarios, a successive pose estimation and beam tracking (SPEBT) scheme is proposed to facilitate mmWave communications with the assistance of mmWave radar sensing. The proposed SPEBT scheme first resorts to a Fast Conservative Filtering for Efficient and Accurate Radar odometry (Fast-CFEAR) approach to estimate the vehicle pose consisting of 2-dimensional position and yaw from radar point clouds collected by mmWave radar sensor. Then, the pose estimation information is fed into an extend Kalman filter to perform beam tracking for the line-of-sight channel. Owing to the intrinsic robustness of mmWave radar sensing, the proposed SPEBT scheme is capable of operating reliably under extreme weather/illumination conditions and large-scale global navigation satellite systems (GNSS)-denied environments. The practical deployment of the SPEBT scheme is verified through rigorous testing on a real-world sensing dataset. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed SPEBT scheme is capable of providing precise pose estimation information and accurate beam tracking output, while reducing the proportion of beam training overhead to less than 5% averagely.

The importance of proper data normalization for deep neural networks is well known. However, in continuous-time state-space model estimation, it has been observed that improper normalization of either the hidden state or hidden state derivative of the model estimate, or even of the time interval can lead to numerical and optimization challenges with deep learning based methods. This results in a reduced model quality. In this contribution, we show that these three normalization tasks are inherently coupled. Due to the existence of this coupling, we propose a solution to all three normalization challenges by introducing a normalization constant at the state derivative level. We show that the appropriate choice of the normalization constant is related to the dynamics of the to-be-identified system and we derive multiple methods of obtaining an effective normalization constant. We compare and discuss all the normalization strategies on a benchmark problem based on experimental data from a cascaded tanks system and compare our results with other methods of the identification literature. © 2024, CC BY-SA.
