The perspectives of light-field images taken by lens-based light-field camera are fixed due to the fixed position and size of lenslet. Unlike lens-based light-field imaging, lensless light-field imaging technologies encode light-field information of scene through a diffuser, and then reconstruct the light-field images by computational algorithms. In this paper, a commercial holographic diffuser is employed in the lensless light-field imaging system, and a flexible complementary segmentation method of sub-aperture region is proposed for the point spread function (PSF). The surface of the holographic diffuser is composed of relief microstructures, which are pseudo-random and non-periodic. Hence, any region of the holographic diffuser can encode and recover light information of object independently, just like sub-aperture imaging from corresponding perspective. Firstly, the PSF of lensless light-field imaging system is calibrated, and the encoded image of scene is also captured;after that, the PSF is divided into two complementary regions as sub-PSFs, corresponding to different sub-aperture regions;then sub-aperture images of scene are reconstructed with corresponding sub-PSFs through reconstruction algorithm, achieving light-field image of selected perspective;properly dividing the sub-PSF and reconstructing sub-aperture image, the sub-aperture image array of light-field can be obtained;with these light-field images, digital refocusing can be achieved finally. Different from existing segmentation method of PSF in lensless light-field imaging, the complementary segmentation method divides PSF into two sub-PSFs while these tow sub-PSFs are complementary to each other. In this paper, we critically examine the relevant ethical concerns of using computer vision-based surveillance in workplaces and propose an intent—and priority-based ethical framework for such systems. With the growing capabilities of computer vision technologies, its application in monitoring workplaces brings forth significant concerns. Organisations increasingly leverage computer vision for workplace surveillance to improve productivity, safety, and security. Unlike electronic surveillance techniques that monitor workers’ wire or electronic communication, computer vision-based workplace surveillance (CVWS) captures highly detailed visual and personal information about workers, including body language, emotional state, and actions. This makes CVWS potentially more intrusive than traditional electronic surveillance, raising a more comprehensive range of ethical considerations. However, this topic has received minimal attention in the current literature. Our proposed framework combines the intention for deploying surveillance with the moral notions of privacy, data security, fairness, transparency, explainability, autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, dignity, and reliability to morally scrutinise CVWS systems. The paper proposes a second framework that aims to establish accountability among key stakeholders of the CVWS system. Further, we discuss two critical questions to consider when evaluating the necessity for CVWS systems in a work environment. In practice, this work will serve as a groundwork for stakeholders such as technical developers, employers, and regulatory and advocacy teams to make ethical design decisions during the developmental, operational, and maintenance stages of CVWS systems and devise proactive strategies to minimise potential harm.

Neural networks have become a leading model in modern machine learning, able to model even the most complex data. For them to be properly trained, however, a lot of computational resources are required. With the carbon footprint of ever-growing adoption of neural networks in mind, an approach to reduce the required training resources would be very welcome. We designed a new training effort reduction method based on the calculation of area under the normalized loss curve and assessed it on the electricity consumption forecasting problem with the recurrent neural networks. The results show that the proposed method was able to considerably reduce the amount of computational resources, while maintaining the predictive performance, and thus contributing towards the Green AI.

Power engineers rely on computer-based simulation tools to assess grid performance and ensure security. At the core of these tools are solvers for sparse linear equations. When transformed into a bordered block-diagonal (BBD) structure, part of the sparse linear equation solving can be parallelized. This work focuses on using the Schur-complement-based method for LU factorization on BBD matrices, specifically, Jacobian matrices from large-scale systems. Our findings show that the natural ordering method outperforms the default ordering method in computational performance for each block of the BBD matrix. This observation is validated using synthetic 25k-bus and 70k-bus cases, showing a speedup of up to 38% when using natural ordering without permutation. Additionally, the impact of the number of partitions is studied, and the result shows that computational performance improves with more, smaller partitions in the BBD matrices.
