Reversible face anonymization, unlike traditional face pixelization, seeks to replace sensitive identity information in facial images with synthesized alternatives, preserving privacy without sacrificing image clarity. Traditional methods, such as encoder-decoder networks, often result in significant loss of facial details due to their limited learning capacity. Additionally, relying on latent manipulation in pre-trained GANs can lead to changes in ID-irrelevant attributes, adversely affecting data utility due to GAN inversion inaccuracies. This paper introduces G2Face, which leverages both generative and geometric priors to enhance identity manipulation, achieving high-quality reversible face anonymization without compromising data utility. We utilize a 3D face model to extract geometric information from the input face, integrating it with a pre-trained GAN-based decoder. This synergy of generative and geometric priors allows the decoder to produce realistic anonymized faces with consistent geometry. Moreover, multi-scale facial features are extracted from the original face and combined with the decoder using our novel identity-aware feature fusion blocks (IFF). This integration enables precise blending of the generated facial patterns with the original ID-irrelevant features, resulting in accurate identity manipulation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art techniques in face anonymization and recovery, while preserving high data utility. The increasing quality of service requirements and demand for satellite services necessitate higher data rates, spectral efficiency, and stability in satellite communication networks. Therefore, this paper investigates the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) assisted satellite communication networks, where multiple users are uniformly distributed over a spherical hat according to the homogeneous Poisson point process (HPPP). Based on the characteristics of HPPP, we analyze the distance distributions of users. To evaluate the performance of the proposed networks, we first derive the closed-form expressions and approximated expressions of the outage probability (OP) for paired NOMA users. To obtain more insights into the proposed networks, the ergodic rate and diversity orders for paired NOMA users are also derived. Spectral efficiency is derived for NOMA and orthogonal multiple access (OMA) assisted satellite communication networks. Our analytical results demonstrate that the diversity order of the proposed networks is all one. Numerical results confirm that: 1) compared to OMA, the proposed NOMA-assisted satellite network demonstrates superior outage performance and spectral efficiency, especially in the higher power regimes;2) fading factors have negligible effects on OP and spectral efficiency;and 3) under certain target rates for both near and far users, the outage performance of far users in NOMA-assisted satellite communication networks is superior to that of near users. © 2024 Institute of electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. The exploration and study of planetary bodies have produced vast amounts of geospatial data, creating a need for effective visualization and analysis tools. Many existing solutions are constrained by platform limitations and are resource-intensive, reducing their accessibility for broader use. To overcome these challenges, we developed a lightweight, web-based platform that visualizes interplanetary data and supports multiple geospatial data formats, including shapefiles, KML, and CZML. Our solution includes unique features such as 2D and 2.5D terrain visualization, 3D tiles, and tools for navigating to specific coordinates and measuring distances. These enhancements allow users to explore and interact with geospatial data from various planetary bodies across multiple devices without requiring specialized hardware or software. By modifying the underlying system, we extended its application to planetary data while preserving accessibility and performance across different platforms. This paper discusses the methodology behind these customizations, the challenges we encountered, and the potential applications of our platform in scientific research and education.

In various domains such as surveillance and smart retail, pedestrian retrieval, centering on person re-identification (Re-ID), plays a pivotal role. Existing Re-ID methodologies often overlook subtle internal attribute variations, which are crucial for accurately identifying individuals with changing appearances. In response, our paper introduces the Attribute-Guided Pedestrian Retrieval (AGPR) task, focusing on integrating specified attributes with query images to refine retrieval results. Although there has been progress in attribute-driven image retrieval, there remains a notable gap in effectively blending robust Re-ID models with intra-class attribute variations. To bridge this gap, we present the Attribute-Guided Transformer-based Pedestrian Retrieval (ATPR) framework. ATPR adeptly merges global ID recognition with local attribute learning, ensuring a co-hesive linkage between the two. Furthermore, to effectively handle the complexity of attribute interconnectivity, ATPR organizes attributes into distinct groups and applies both inter-group correlation and intra-group decorrelation regularizations. Our extensive experiments on a newly estab-lished benchmark using the RAP dataset [32] demonstrate the effectiveness of ATPR within the AGPR paradigm.

Multi-modal Data based Semi-Supervised Learning for Vehicle Positioning

In this paper, a multi-modal data based semisupervised learning (SSL) framework that jointly use channel state information (CSI) data and RGB images for vehicle positioning is designed. In particular, an outdoor positioning system where the vehicle locations are determined by a base station (BS) is considered. The BS equipped with several cameras can collect a large amount of unlabeled CSI data and a small number of labeled CSI data of vehicles, and the images taken by cameras. Although the collected images contain partial information of vehicles (i.e. azimuth angles of vehicles), the relationship between the unlabeled CSI data and its azimuth angle, and the distances between the BS and the vehicles captured by images are both unknown. Therefore, the images cannot be directly used as the labels of unlabeled CSI data to train a positioning model. To exploit unlabeled CSI data and images, a SSL framework that consists of a pretraining stage and a downstream training stage is proposed. In the pretraining stage, the azimuth angles obtained from the images are considered as the labels of unlabeled CSI data to pretrain the positioning model. In the downstream training stage, a small sized labeled dataset in which the accurate vehicle positions are considered as labels is used to retrain the model. Simulation results show that the proposed method can reduce the positioning error by up to 30% compared to a baseline where the model is not pretrained. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. YOLO-based models are widely used for personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance detection due to their excellent detection performance and efficiency. However, most YOLO models are not competent for detection tasks in complex industrial scenarios such as remote surveillance and extremely small targets. In addition, there is a lack of effective model lightweighting and knowledge transfer approaches for industrial deployment. To this end, this paper proposes a Multi-scale and Knowledge-Distilling YOLO (MKD-YOLO) based on YOLOv8n for efficient PPE compliance detection. Specifically, in backbone stage, we design an Efficient Multi-Scale Enhanced Convolution (C2f-EMSEC) module and Large Spatial Pyramid Pooling-Fast (LSPPF) module for multi-scale and global-contextual feature learning as well as reducing model complexity. Then, in neck stage, a refined Bidirectional feature Pyramid Network (BPNet) is designated to capture fine-grained details for extremely small object detection. Moreover, we apply channel-wise knowledge distillation to facilitate model lightweighting and domain-specific knowledge transfer learning. Experiments on our proposed dataset and public datasets show that the proposed MKD-YOLO achieves a new state-of-the-art (SOTA) detection performance and efficiency for practical PPE compliance detection tasks. The brain is able to acquire and store memories of everyday experiences in real-time. It can also selectively forget information to facilitate memory updating. However, our understanding of the underlying mechanisms and coordination of these processes within the brain remains limited. However, no existing artificial intelligence models have yet matched human-level capabilities in terms of memory storage and retrieval. This study introduces a brain-inspired spiking neural model that integrates the learning and forgetting processes of sequential memory. The proposed model closely mimics the distributed and sparse temporal coding observed in the biological neural system. It employs one-shot online learning for memory formation and uses biologically plausible mechanisms of neural oscillation and phase precession to retrieve memorized sequences reliably. In addition, an active forgetting mechanism is integrated into the spiking neural model, enabling memory removal, flexibility, and updating. The proposed memory model not only enhances our understanding of human memory processes but also provides a robust framework for addressing temporal modeling tasks.

The Internet of things (IoT) drives an exponential surge in computing and communication devices. Consequently, it triggers capacity, coverage, interference, latency, and security issues in the existing communication networks. The forthcoming sixth-generation (6G) networks will address these issues by providing comprehensive solutions. In particular, quantum communication technology can potentially address the challenges of 6G networks. However, its implementation requires substantial infrastructure upgrades. Therefore, the quantum-inspired (QI) techniques offer an intermediate resort due to their ability to utilize the classical communication infrastructure for design and implementation. Hence, we review QI techniques in this survey that address radio resource optimization challenges across various communication aspects, including channel assignment, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, spectrum sensing, unmanned aerial vehicle-assisted networks, and related areas. The analysis explores diverse aspects, including objectives, constraints, problem characterization, proposed solutions, and lessons learnt. Research indicates that QI techniques offer advantages such as faster convergence and reduced complexity, providing promising solutions to complex optimization problems in communication networks. Furthermore, we identify the future directions, research gaps, and ongoing challenges from the QI radio resource optimization dataset. © 1998-2012 IEEE.

Deep Robust Reversible Watermarking

Robust Reversible Watermarking (RRW) enables perfect recovery of cover images and watermarks in lossless channels while ensuring robust watermark extraction under lossy channels. However, existing RRW methods, mostly non-deep learning-based, suffer from complex designs, high computational costs, and poor robustness limiting their practical applications. To address these issues, this paper proposes Deep Robust Reversible Watermarking (DRRW), a deep learning-based RRW scheme. DRRW introduces an Integer Invertible Watermark Network (iIWN) to achieve an invertible mapping between integer data distributions, fundamentally addressing the limitations of conventional RRW approaches. Unlike traditional RRW methods requiring task-specific designs for different distortions, DRRW adopts an encoder-noise layer-decoder framework, enabling adaptive robustness against various distortions through end-to-end training. During inference, the cover image and watermark are mapped into an overflowed stego image and latent variables. Arithmetic coding efficiently compresses these into a compact bitstream, which is embedded via reversible data hiding to ensure lossless recovery of both the image and watermark. To reduce pixel overflow, we introduce an overflow penalty loss, significantly shortening the auxiliary bitstream while improving both robustness and stego image quality. Additionally, we propose an adaptive weight adjustment strategy that eliminates the need to manually preset the watermark loss weight, ensuring improved training stability and performance. Experiments on multiple datasets demonstrate that DRRW achieves notable performance advantages. Compared to state-of-the-art RRW methods, DRRW improves robustness and reduces embedding, extraction, and recovery complexities by 55.14×, 5.95×, and 3.57×, respectively. With the increasing water shortage and climatic uncertainty, creative strategies for effective water management in agriculture are necessary. This research investigates the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), with solar-powered Internet of Things (IoT) networks to enhance water utilization in agricultural activities. The proposed system facilitates accurate irrigation scheduling using real-time data from soil moisture sensors, meteorological stations, and crop health monitoring devices. The ANN model analyses this data to predict ideal irrigation schedules and volumes, minimizing water waste while improving crop yields. The solar-powered IoT framework provides sustainability and reduces dependence on traditional energy sources. Field trials indicate that the AI-enhanced system may promote water saving by as much as 30% relative to traditional irrigation techniques. Moreover, using AI enables adaptive learning, enabling the system to enhance its irrigation tactics using historical and real-time data. This novel method conserves water resources and fosters sustainable agriculture practices, coinciding with global initiatives to address water shortages and assure food security. The findings underscore the potential of technology-based solutions to revolutionize agricultural water management for a sustainable future.
