We present OpenVNA, an open-source framework designed for analyzing the behavior of multimodal language understanding systems under noisy conditions. OpenVNA serves as an intuitive toolkit tailored for researchers, facilitating convenience batch-level robustness evaluation and on-the-fly instance-level demonstration. It primarily features a benchmark Python library for assessing global model robustness, offering high flexibility and extensibility, thereby enabling customization with user-defined noise types and models. Additionally, a GUI-based interface has been developed to intuitively analyze local model behavior. In this paper, we delineate the design principles and utilization of the created library and GUI-based web platform. Generative AI (GAI) can enhance the cognitive, reasoning, and planning capabilities of intelligent modules in the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) by synthesizing augmented datasets, completing sensor data, and making sequential decisions. In addition, the mixture of experts (MoE) can enable the distributed and collaborative execution of AI models without performance degradation between connected vehicles. In this survey, we explore the integration of MoE and GAI to enable Artificial General Intelligence in IoV, which can enable the realization of full autonomy for IoV with minimal human supervision and applicability in a wide range of mobility scenarios, including environment monitoring, traffic management, and autonomous driving. In particular, we present the fundamentals of GAI, MoE, and their interplay applications in IoV. Furthermore, we discuss the potential integration of MoE and GAI in IoV, including distributed perception and monitoring, collaborative decision-making and planning, and generative modeling and simulation. Deep brain stimulation of anterior nucleus of the thalamus (ANT-DBS) is an effective clinical treatment for drug-resistant focal epilepsy. However, the complex epileptic network characteristics underlying ANT-stimulation effectiveness remain unknown, owing to currently unclear connectivity between ANT and seizure-related cortex in pre-ictal periods. Here, we developed a novel individualized pre-ictal ANT-cortical tripartite connectivity network (PANT-CTCNet), aiming to reveal epileptic network characteristics using intracranial stereo-electroencephalography (sEEG) recordings in five patients with focal epilepsy for 90 trials. Each trial represented a pre-ictal or post-stimulus sEEG duration, which was used to construct the epileptic network. By employing conditional Granger causality, we constructed individualized ANT-cortical connectivity networks and found a common epileptic network centred on ANT closely connected with seizure-related cortex in pre-ictal periods. After ANT stimulation for clinical validation, strengthened pre-ictal connectivity between ANT and epileptogenic zones led to significant decline in the causal intensity of epileptic networks. The PANT-CTCNet can give a quantitative reference for clinical preoperative evaluation of patient suitability for ANT-DBS treatment. These findings regarding epileptic network characteristics provide theoretical basis in the selection of optimal surgical candidates for personalized ANT-DBS.

A Q-learning-based approach for distributed beam scheduling in mmwave networks

We consider the problem of distributed downlink beam scheduling and power allocation for millimeter-Wave (mmWave) cellular networks where multiple base stations (BSs) belonging to different service operators share the same unlicensed spectrum with no central coordination or cooperation among them. Our goal is to design efficient distributed beam scheduling and power allocation algorithms such that the network-level payoff, defined as the weighted sum of the total throughput and a power penalization term, can be maximized. To this end, we propose a distributed scheduling approach to power allocation and adaptation for efficient interference management over the shared spectrum by modeling each BS as an independent Q-learning agent. As a baseline, we compare the proposed approach to the state-of-the-art non-cooperative game-based approach which was previously developed for the same problem. We conduct extensive experiments under various scenarios to verify the effect of multiple factors on the performance of both approaches. Experiment results show that the proposed approach adapts well to different interference situations by learning from experience and can achieve higher payoff than the game-based approach. The proposed approach can also be integrated into our previously developed Lyapunov stochastic optimization framework for the purpose of network utility maximization with optimality guarantee. As a result, the weights in the payoff function can be automatically and optimally determined by the virtual queue values from the sub-problems derived from the Lyapunov optimization framework. © 2021, CC BY.

On the Effects and Optimal Design of Redundant Sensors in Collaborative State Estimation

The existence of redundant sensors in collaborative state estimation is a common occurrence, yet their true significance remains elusive. This paper comprehensively investigates the effects and optimal design of redundant sensors in sensor networks that use Kalman filtering to estimate the state of a random process collaboratively. The paper presents two main results: a theoretical analysis of the effects of redundant sensors and an engineering-oriented optimal design of redundant sensors. In the theoretical analysis, the paper leverages Riccati equations and Symplectic matrix theory to unveil the explicit role of redundant sensors in cooperative state estimation. The results unequivocally demonstrate that the addition of redundant sensors enhances the estimation performance of the sensor network, aligning with the principle of "more is better". Moreover, the paper establishes a precise sufficient and necessary condition to assess whether the inclusion of redundant sensors improves the overall estimation performance. Moving towards engineering-oriented design optimization, the paper proposes a novel algorithm to tackle the optimal design problem of redundant sensors, and the convergence of the proposed algorithm is guaranteed. In this paper, we propose a distributed Kalman filter(DKF) for the dynamical system with general random coefficients. In the proposed method, each estimator shares local innovation pairs with its neighbors to collectively complete the estimation task. Further, we introduce a collective random observability condition by which the Lp-stability of the covariance matrix and the Lp-exponential stability of the homogeneous part of the estimation error equation can be established. In contrast, the stringent conditions on the coefficient matrices, such as independency and stationarity are not required. Besides, the stability of the DKF, i.e., the boundedness of the filtering errors, can be established. Finally, from the simulation result,we demonstrate the cooperative effect of the sensors.

Collaborative Filtering(CF) is a widely studied recommendation method, and learning high-quality representations is crucial for it. Recent research has focused on improving the quality of learned representations by designing better optimization objectives, such as optimizing alignment and uniformity, which enhance recommendation performance. However, supervised learning alone cannot address inherent issues like sparse supervision signals in recommendation systems. Therefore, many studies use contrastive learning (CL) from self-supervised learning to provide additional self-supervised signals, and often jointly optimize InfoNCE loss from CL and BPR loss from CF. Considering that both InfoNCE and BPR losses can be analyzed through the key properties of alignment and uniformity, we propose a loss function that integrates CL and CF into alignment and uniformity. This integration ensures that the learned representations are both representative and suitable for recommendation tasks. Specifically, we use LightGCN to extract high-order collaborative signals from the user-item interaction graph, and to enable self-supervised learning, we add uniform noise perturbations at each layer. We then optimize the learned representations using our proposed loss function. We conduct experiments on a benchmark dataset to demonstrate the superiority of our framework.

Currently, in consumer electronics industry, quite a number of E-healthcare products highly depend on consumers' facial biometrics for both disease diagnosis and identity authen-tication. In light of this, various facial privacy-preserving approa-ches oriented towards the internet of medical things have been proposed, including visual cryptography and desensitization tech-nique. Nevertheless, few attentions have been paid to investigating their countermeasure, i.e., facial privacy analysis, owning to significant distribution discrepancy between the original and anony-mized facial images. To this end, a general Denoising Diffusion Cryptanalytic Model (DDCM) is proposed in this paper to recon-struct the original facial images in a coarse-to-fine manner from their encrypted ones with diverse anonymous approaches. Spec-ifically, to accurately reconstruct the original facial image without any prior knowledge, a customized initial prediction module with an encoder-decoder structure is introduced by taking advantage of its leaked visual cues to generate the coarse face. Furthermore, the residual map between the original and coarse facial images is explicitly modeled with the output of the customized prediction module as a conditional prior, thereby obtaining a refined facial image. Finally, extensive experiments demonstrate that the propo-sed DDCM could not only effectively crack multiple handcrafted facial anonymization approaches, such as blurring, pixelation and thumbnail-preserving encryption, but also outperform the prev-ious works (e.g., Pix2Pix) in terms of image fidelity and attack success rate. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Communication-centric Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) has been recognized as a promising methodology to implement wireless sensing functionality over existing network architectures, due to its cost-effectiveness and backward compatibility to legacy cellular systems. However, the inherent randomness of the communication signal may incur huge fluctuations in sensing capabilities, leading to unfavorable detection and estimation performance. To address this issue, we elaborate on random ISAC signal processing methods in this article, aiming at improving the sensing performance without unduly deteriorating the communication functionality. Specifically, we commence by discussing the fundamentals of sensing with random communication signals, including the performance metrics and optimal ranging waveforms. Building on these concepts, we then present a general framework for random ISAC signal transmission, followed by an in-depth exploration of time-domain pulse shaping, frequency-domain constellation shaping, and spatial-domain precoding methods. We provide a comprehensive overview of each of these topics, including models, results, and design guidelines. Finally, we conclude this article by identifying several promising research directions for random ISAC signal transmission. © 2025 IEEE.
