Secure Communication in Dynamic RDARS-Driven systems

In this letter, we investigate a dynamic reconfigurable distributed antenna and reflection surface (RDARS)-driven secure communication system, where the working mode of the RDARS can be flexibly configured. We aim to maximize the secrecy rate by jointly designing the active beamforming vectors, reflection coefficients, and the channel-aware mode selection matrix. To address the non-convex binary and cardinality constraints introduced by dynamic mode selection, we propose an efficient alternating optimization (AO) framework that employs penalty-based fractional programming (FP) and successive convex approximation (SCA) transformations. Simulation results demonstrate the potential of RDARS in enhancing the secrecy rate and show its superiority compared to existing reflection surface-based schemes. © 2012 IEEE.

HDTCNet: A hybrid-dimensional convolutional network for multivariate time series classification

Currently, transformer-based models dominate time series classification due to their ability to capture global data dependencies. However, their large memory footprint and high computational demands make them less desirable for long multivariate time series modeling. At the same time, convolution-based models promise a desirable performance versus efficiency trade-off for the task. Nevertheless, the popularity of transformer models has impeded exploration of sophisticated convolution-based modeling for time series classification. In this work, we introduce a novel convolution-based model, called HDTCNet, that alternates between 1D and 2D convolutional modes to capture temporal pattern correlations between intra- and inter-sensor variations. We develop a Wavelet Time Convolution block to expand the effective receptive field of the underlying neural model with a small convolutional kernel that embeds a set of 1D convolution operators between a cascade of wavelet decomposition and reconstruction of the input time series. To efficiently represent the local features of multivariate time series, we devise a hierarchical difference convolution network to capture intra- and inter-sensor gradient variations. To refine the feature representation of sensor-level time series and achieve multi-view self-enhancement, we design a self-enhancing module. These innovations enable HDTCNet to achieve superior performance while maintaining efficiency as a purely convolutional model. Experimental results demonstrate that HDTCNet achieves 2.1% accuracy and 1% F1-score performance improvements over state-of-the-art methods on 25 UEA classification datasets and 3 anomaly detection datasets, respectively, while reducing parameter counts by two orders of magnitude. Magnons possess the ability to transport spin angular momentum in insulating magnetic materials, a characteristic that sets them apart from traditional electronics where power consumption arises from the movement of electrons. However, the practical application of magnon devices demands room temperature operation and low switching power of perpendicular magnetization. Here we demonstrate the low-power manipulation of perpendicular magnetization via magnon torques in SnTe/NiO/CoFeB devices at room temperature. Topological crystalline insulator SnTe exhibits a high spin Hall conductivity of σs ≈ 6.1 x 104 (ℏ /2e) (Ω \. m)-1, which facilitates the generation of magnon currents in an antiferromagnetic insulator NiO. The magnon currents traverse the 20-nm-thick NiO layer and subsequently exert magnon torques on the adjacent ferromagnetic layer, leading to magnetization switching. Notably, we achieve a 22-fold reduction in power consumption in SnTe/NiO/CoFeB heterostructures compared to Bi2Te3/NiO/CoFeB control samples. Our findings establish the low-power perpendicular magnetization manipulation through magnon torques, significantly expanding the range of topological materials with practical applications. © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.

In this study, the authors propose a new group testing based (GTB) error control codes (ECCs) approach for improving the reliability of memory structures in computing systems. Compared with conventional single- A nd double-bit error correcting codes, the GTB codes provide higher reliability at the multi-byte error correction granularity. The proposed codes are cost-efficient in their encoding and decoding procedures. Instead of requiring multiplication or inversion over Galois finite field like most multi-byte ECC schemes, the proposed technique only involves bitwise XOR operations, therefore, significantly reducing the computation complexity and latency. For instance, to correct m errors in a Q-ary codeword of length N, where $Q \ge 2$Q≥2, the compute complexity is mere $O\lpar mN\log Q\rpar $O(mNlog. âiQ). The GTB codes trade redundancy for encoding and decoding simplicity, and are able to achieve better code rate than other ECCs of the same trade-off. The proposed GTB codes lend themselves well to designs with high reliability and low computation complexity requirements, such as storage systems with strong fault tolerance, or compute systems with straggler tolerance, and so on. © 2019 Institution of engineering and Technology. Decision making framework for heterogeneous QoS information: an application to cloud service selection

In recent times, appropriate decision-making in challenging and critical situations has been very well supported by multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. The technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) is the most widely used MCDM method for solving decision problems. However, it restricts decision-makers to use only one type of Quality of Service (QoS) information, and it suffers from the rank reversal problem. Restriction to only one type of QoS makes the decision problems more challenging, as it restricts the decision-makers freedom. Further, the rank reversal problem makes the decision result unreliable. To address these issues of TOPSIS, we have proposed a reliable rank reversal robust modular TOPSIS (RMo-TOPSIS). RMo-TOPSIS allows crisp, interval, fuzzy, intuitionistic and neutrosophic fuzzy QoS metrics. It does not suffer from the rank reversal problem. Cloud computing provides computing services on-demand basis without involving maintenance by its users. The availability of many cloud service providers and their services makes cloud service selection a challenging problem. To validate RMo-TOPSIS, we select the cloud service selection consisting of different types of QoS metrics as an application. Experiments on cloud service selection show consistency and accuracy in results obtained by RMo-TOPSIS and its robustness against rank reversal. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

A low-complexity sensor fusion algorithm based on a fiber-optic gyroscope aided camera pose estimation system

Visual tracking, as a popular computer vision technique, has a wide range of applications, such as camera pose estimation. Conventional methods for it are mostly based on vision only, which are complex for image processing due to the use of only one sensor. This paper proposes a novel sensor fusion algorithm fusing the data from the camera and the fiber-optic gyroscope. In this system, the camera acquires images and detects the object directly at the beginning of each tracking stage; while the relative motion between the camera and the object measured by the fiber-optic gyroscope can track the object coordinate so that it can improve the effectiveness of visual tracking. Therefore, the sensor fusion algorithm presented based on the tracking system can overcome the drawbacks of the two sensors and take advantage of the sensor fusion to track the object accurately. In addition, the computational complexity of our proposed algorithm is obviously lower compared with the existing approaches(86% reducing for a 0.5 min visual tracking). Experiment results show that this visual tracking system reduces the tracking error by 6.15% comparing with the conventional vision-only tracking scheme(edge detection), and our proposed sensor fusion algorithm can achieve a long-term tracking with the help of bias drift suppression calibration.

Enhancement of pulsed laser ablation assisted with continuous wave laser irradiation

Continuous wave(CW) laser irradiation is employed to enhance the pulsed laser ablation of silicon and stainless steel(316 L)samples. Different surface temperatures generated by the CW laser irradiation are set as the initial working circumstance for the pulsed laser ablation. The diameter and depth of laser-ablated craters are measured to study threshold fluence, pulse incubation coefficient and ablation rate under different surface temperatures. Numerical simulation employing Heat Transfer in Solid and Deformed Geometry Interface modules in COMSOL is performed to estimate ablation rate theoretically based on Hertz-Knudsen equation. The realized crater-related data are analyzed to further obtain their dependences on surface temperature. The parametric and morphological studies indicate that the weakened plasma shielding effect and thermal diffusion in the ablated region induced by the CW laser irradiation lead to the enhanced pulsed laser ablation significantly.

Enhancing traffic efficiency and alleviating(even circumventing) traffic congestion with advanced traffic signal control(TSC) strategies are always the main issues to be addressed in urban transportation systems. Since model predictive control(MPC) has a lot of advantages in modeling complex dynamic systems, it has been widely studied in traffic signal control over the past 20 years. There is a need for an in-depth understanding of MPC-based TSC methods for traffic networks. Therefore, this paper presents the motivation of using MPC for TSC and how MPC-based TSC approaches are implemented to manage and control the dynamics of traffic flows both in urban road networks and freeway networks. Meanwhile, typical performance evaluation metrics, solution methods, examples of simulations,and applications related to MPC-based TSC approaches are reported. More importantly, this paper summarizes the recent developments and the research trends in coordination and control of traffic networks with MPC-based TSC approaches. Remaining challenges and open issues are discussed towards the end of this paper to discover potential future research directions.

This paper proposes a new algorithm for full body human motion estimation using 3D marker position measurements. The joints are represented with Lie group members, including special orthogonal groups SO(2) and SO(3), and a special euclidean group SE(3). We employ the Lie Group Extended Kalman Filter (LG-EKF) for stochastic inference on groups, thus explicitly accounting for the non-euclidean geometry of the state space, and provide the derivation of the LG-EKF recursion for articulated motion estimation. We evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm in both simulation and on real-world motion capture data, comparing it with the Euler angles based EKF. The results show that the proposed filter significantly outperforms the Euler angles based EKF, since it estimates human motion more accurately and is not affected by gimbal lock. © 2016 IEEE.
