SecBCS: a secure and privacy-preserving blockchain-based crowdsourcing system

A robust and scalable crowd management infrastructure is crucial in addressing operational challenges when deploying high-density sensors and actuators in a smart city. While crowdsourcing is widely used in crowd management, conventional solutions, such as Upwork and Amazon Mechanical Turk, generally depend on a trusted third-party platform. There exist several potential security concerns(e.g., sensitive leakage, single point of failure and unfair judgment) in such a centralized paradigm. Hence, a recent trend in crowdsourcing is to leverage blockchain(a decentralized ledger technology) to address some of the existing limitations. A small number of blockchain-based crowdsourcing systems(BCSs) with incentive mechanisms have been proposed in the literature, but they are generally not designed with security in mind. Thus, we study the security and privacy requirements of a secure BCS and propose a concrete solution(i.e., SecBCS)with a prototype implementation based on JUICE.

With the deep integration of cyber tools, control algorithms are increasingly employed in cyber-physical energy systems to enhance management, cost efficiency, and robustness. Effective demand load management is crucial in cyber-physical energy systems as it directly impacts operational costs. Failure to adequately manage spiky or seasonal demand loads can lead to significant expenses on monthly utility bills. In this study, we propose AMPAMOD, a randomized online algorithm with machine-learned advice, to optimize battery operations and mitigate highly dynamic peak loads. AMPAMOD utilizes limited advice from machine learning algorithms to guide our online algorithm and ensure cost-effective peak load management. The theoretical analysis shows that our solution has minimal advice complexity, a linear computational cost, and an improved competitive ratio. Finally, we conduct extensive trace-driven experiments on real-world datasets. AMPAMOD achieves a peak shaving success rate of over 90%, outperforming baselines by at least 50%. These experimental results confirm theoretical findings and demonstrate the potential of AMPAMOD.

In this paper, we propose a simultaneous wire-less information and power transfer (SWIPT)-enabled Ad hoc network underlay rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA)-based system with intelligent reflecting surface (IRS). Therein, a base station (BS) in a primary network uses RSMA to serve primary users (PUs), and secondary user (SU) pairs constitute an Ad hoc network sharing the spectrum with the primary network. The power splitting (PS)-based SWIPT protocol is used in the Ad hoc network that allow the SU receivers to decode the information and harvest energy simultaneously. An IRS is deployed to further enhance the system performance. We formulate optimization problems that optimize the common data rate allocation and beamformers associated with the common and private messages of RSMA, the beamformers and the PS factor in the Ad hoc network, and reflection coefficients of the IRS to maximize the minimum rate of the PUs while satisfying the requirements of harvested energy and data rate of the SU pairs. The optimization problems are non-convex and challenging to be solved. We propose a low complexity algorithm based on alternating descent techniques. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness and improvement of the proposed framework compared with the framework based on existing multiple access schemes, i.e., non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA).

The rising demand for reliable, high-bandwidth satellite communications in far-reach areas drives the integration of low earth orbit (LEO) satellites into future 6G networks. In this paper, we investigate the deployment of reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) technology and rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) within LEO satellite systems to improve communication quality and system capacity. We derive closed-form expressions for outage probability (OP) and reliable throughput that validate the theoretical advantages of these technologies under various signal-to-noise ratio conditions. Numerical results demonstrate that, compared with traditional space division multiple access (SDMA) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) approaches, our RSMA and RIS-integrated framework significantly can reduce OP and enhance reliable throughput with an appropriate power-splitting factor, showcasing its superiority in RIS-enabled satellite communication scenarios.

This paper systematically investigates the performance of consensus-based distributed filtering under mismatched noise covariances. First, we introduce three performance evaluation indices for such filtering problems, namely the standard performance evaluation index, the nominal performance evaluation index, and the estimation error covariance. We derive difference expressions among these indices and establish one-step relations among them under various mismatched noise covariance scenarios. We particularly reveal the effect of the consensus fusion on these relations. Furthermore, the recursive relations are introduced by extending the results of the one-step relations. Subsequently, we demonstrate the convergence of these indices under the collective observability condition, and show this convergence condition of the nominal performance evaluation index can guarantee the convergence of the estimation error covariance. Additionally, we prove that the estimation error covariance of the consensus-based distributed filter under mismatched noise covariances can be bounded by the Frobenius norms of the noise covariance deviations and the trace of the nominal performance evaluation index. Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has been considered a key feature of next-generation wireless networks. This paper investigates the joint design of the radar receive filter and dual-functional transmit waveform for the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) ISAC system. While optimizing the mean square error (MSE) of the radar receive spatial response and maximizing the achievable rate at the communication receiver, besides the constraints of full-power radar receiving filter and unimodular transmit sequence, we control the maximum range sidelobe level, which is often overlooked in existing ISAC waveform design literature, for better radar imaging performance. To solve the formulated optimization problem with convex and nonconvex constraints, we propose an inexact augmented Lagrangian method (ALM) algorithm. For each subproblem in the proposed inexact ALM algorithm, we custom-design a block successive upper-bound minimization (BSUM) scheme with closed-form solutions for all blocks of variable to enhance the computational efficiency. Convergence analysis shows that the proposed algorithm is guaranteed to provide a stationary and feasible solution. Extensive simulations are performed to investigate the impact of different system parameters on communication and radar imaging performance. The collaboration of computing powers (CPs) among unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)-mounted edge servers is essential to handle data-intensive tasks of user equipments (UEs). This paper presents a multi-UAV computing power network (CPN) that orchestrates the CP resources of edge servers to cooperatively process tasks through collaborative computing. Due to the frequent interactions among edge servers and the increased complexities for large-scale task executions, we propose a digital twin (DT)-driven multi-UAV CPN framework, where the aerial DT network is created as a digital replica of the multi-UAV network to assist collaborative computing. A joint optimization problem of the service association, offloading power control, task partitions, CP allocation, and UAV trajectory design is formulated to minimize the long-term average delay of UEs. We use the Lyapunov technique to tackle the long-term energy constraint, forming a tractable optimization problem, which is modeled as a Markov decision process to balance the UAV's deficit queue stability and the UE's task completion delay. A hybrid soft actor-critic based deep reinforcement learning algorithm is developed to optimize the joint design by sampling the hybrid action from the Gumbel and Gaussian distributions. Simulation results verify that the multi-UAV CPN contributes to significant performance gains when supported by DTs. © 2025 IEEE.

With the popularity of encryption protocols, machine learning (ML)-based traffic analysis technologies have attracted widespread attention. To adapt to modern high-speed bandwidth, recent research is dedicated to advancing zero-trust intrusion detection by offloading feature extraction and model inference into the network dataplane. Especially, with the rise of programmable switches, achieving line-speed ML inference becomes promising. However, existing research only considers a single switch node as a relay to conduct evaluation. This is far from real-world deployments involving multiple switches (given that zero-trust security assumes that threats can originate from anywhere, including within the network), particularly the multi-path routing phenomenon that exists in practice. In this paper, we reveal practical challenges in the context of enabling line-speed model inference in the network dataplane. Furthermore, we propose FCPlane, the forwarding and computing integrated dataplane for zero-trust intrusion detection that aims to enable efficient load balancing while providing reliable traffic analysis results, even against multipath routing. The core idea is to reconcile forwarding and computation to the flowlet level, for which a tailor-made Markov chain model is designed. Based on two public traffic datasets, we evaluate seven state-of-the-art in-network traffic analysis models deployed in four types of topologies (three with multipath routing and one without) to explore performance impact and demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposal. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

Existing 3D mask learning methods encounter performance bottlenecks under limited data, and our objective is to overcome this limitation. In this paper, we introduce a triple point masking scheme, named TPM, which serves as a scalable plug- and-play framework for MAE pre-training to achieve multi-mask learning for 3D point clouds. Specifically, we augment the baseline methods with two additional mask choices (i.e., medium mask and low mask) as our core insight is that the recovery process of an object can manifest in diverse ways. Previous high-masking schemes focus on capturing the global representation information but lack fine-grained recovery capabilities, so that the generated pre-training weights tend to play a limited role in the fine-tuning process. With the support of the proposed TPM, current methods can exhibit more flexible and accurate completion capabilities, enabling the potential autoencoder in the pre-training stage to consider multiple representations of a single 3D point cloud object. In addition, during the fine-tuning stage, an SVM-guided weight selection module is proposed to fill the encoder parameters for downstream networks with the optimal weight, maximizing linear accuracy and facilitating the acquisition of intricate representations for new objects. Extensive experimental results and theoretical analysis show that five baselines equipped with the proposed TPM achieve comprehensive performance improvements on various downstream tasks. © 2025 IEEE. Diabetes Mellitus has no permanent cure to date and is one of the leading causes of death globally. The alarming increase in diabetes calls for the need to take precautionary measures to avoid/predict the occurrence of diabetes. This paper proposes HealthEdge, a machine learning-based smart healthcare framework for type 2 diabetes prediction in an integrated IoT-edge-cloud computing system. Numerical experiments and comparative analysis were carried out between the two most used machine learning algorithms in the literature, Random Forest (RF) and Logistic Regression (LR), using two real-life diabetes datasets. The results show that RF predicts diabetes with 6% more accuracy on average compared to LR.
