In this paper, the notion of contraction is used to solve the trajectory-tracking problem for a class of mechanical systems. Additionally, we propose a dynamic extension to remove velocity measurements from the controller while rejecting matched disturbances. In particular, we propose three control designs stemming from the Interconnection and Damping Assignment Passivity-Based Control approach. The first controller is a tracker that does not require velocity measurements. The second control design solves the trajectory-tracking problem while guaranteeing robustness with respect to matched disturbances. Then, the third approach is a combination of both mentioned controllers. It is shown that all proposed design methods guarantee exponential convergence of the mechanical system to the desired (feasible) trajectory due to the contraction property of the closed-loop system. As a pivotal technique in intelligent education systems, cognitive diagnosis (CD) serves to reveal students’ knowledge proficiency for better tackling subsequent tasks. Unfortunately, due to pursuing high model interpretability, existing manually designed models for CD often hold simplistic architectures, which cannot cope with intricate data in modern education platforms. Furthermore, the bias of human design limits the emergence of novel and effective CD models. To develop interpretable and more effective models, thus this paper proposes an evolutionary multi-objective neural architecture search (NAS) approach for CD. Specifically, we first adopt a comprehensive search space for the NAS task of CD: all candidate models can be encompassed by a general model that deals with three distinct types of inputs. Then, an innovative model interpretability objective is devised to formulate the architecture search task as a bi-objective optimization problem (BOP). To solve the BOP, we employ a multi-objective genetic programming (MOGP) as the search strategy to explore the search space. To make the employed MOGP search well, all architectures are first encoded by trees for easy optimization, and we devise a genetic operation and a population initialization strategy to expedite its convergence. Finally, the proposed approach is actually a MOGP-based NAS approach for CD. Extensive experiments show that CD models searched by the proposed approach exhibit significantly better performance than existing models and hold as good interpretability as handcrafted models. With the increasing emphasis on data privacy, federated learning (FL) networks show great potential through distributed training without directly sharing the raw data. However, the coverage of FL terrestrial servers is usually limited. Therefore, we propose leveraging the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as a mobile flying server to further improve the wireless coverage and training efficiency of FL. Nevertheless, frequent exchanges of model parameters in UAV-assisted FL can result in serious security risks. In order to achieve this, we propose a covert FL scheme assisted by the UAV, which can protect the transmission key features of local models from being detected by wardens. Furthermore, we discuss the FL network and covert communications, as well as the exceptional features of UAV-assisted covert FL. Finally, we present two case studies, one of which focuses on minimising the network latency, while the other concentrates on reducing the energy consumption of covert FL. The simulation results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed schemes in addressing future challenges. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

With the advancement of information technology in the recent decades, digital and online services have become essential components of everyday life in Europe. Montenegro is no different in this regard. However, as digital literacy in the country is still in a developing phase in comparison with most countries of the EU, a higher portion of its citizens may rely on assistive technical communication. In this paper, we provide a case study on the assistive technical communication of Montenegrin eServices. The work addresses the sectors of online banking, healthcare services, higher education, national administrative services, and utilities. Our findings highlight the diversity in terms of implemented assistive technical communication, and distinguish usage contexts on the level of adequacy. Yet as the functionalities of Montenegrin eServices are expected to gradually expand in the upcoming years, assistive technical communication must aim to handle the higher extents of service complexity. © 2023 IEEE.

Protecting Personalized Trajectory with Differential Privacy under Temporal Correlations

Location-based services (LBSs) in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) offer users numerous conveniences. However, the extensive use of LBSs raises concerns about the privacy of users’ trajectories, as adversaries can exploit temporal correlations between different locations to extract personal information. Additionally, users have varying privacy requirements depending on the time and location. To address these issues, this paper proposes a personalized trajectory privacy protection mechanism (PTPPM). This mechanism first uses the temporal correlation between trajectory locations to determine the possible location set for each time instant. We identify a protection location set (PLS) for each location by employing the Hilbert curve-based minimum distance search algorithm. This approach incorporates the complementary features of geo-indistinguishability and distortion privacy. We put forth a novel Permute-and-Flip mechanism for location perturbation, which maps its initial application in data publishing privacy protection to a location perturbation mechanism. This mechanism generates fake locations with smaller perturbation distances while improving the balance between privacy and quality of service (QoS). Simulation results show that our mechanism outperforms the benchmark by providing enhanced privacy protection while meeting user’s QoS requirements. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Currency exchange markets are among the largest markets worldwide. Due to their decentrilised nature and the variation of the engaged stakeholders (i.e., from big funds and corporates to small enterprises and citizens), the currency exchange rate forecasting is a challenging task, crucial in decision making and democratisation of this domain. The main objective of this paper is to explore dependence patterns among various econometric time series, directly, or indirectly, related to currency exchange rate time series. Thereafter, on top of this dependence analysis, we deliver machine learning algorithms (e.g., support vector classifiers) to predict future values of currency exchange rates. Under this framework, the notions of time series autocorrelation and cross-correlation are utilised. However, both exhibit limitations because they cannot depict non-linear dependances. To tackle this caveat, we analyse the absolute values of the returns (i.e., percentage change) of the examined time series. The efficiency of the proposed procedure is demonstrated with eight currency exchange rate time series and eleven exogenous econometric time series related to the former. Finally, we trained eight support vector classifiers, one for each currency pair, all of which reached an accuracy level of approximately 80%.

Reversible face anonymization, unlike traditional face pixelization, seeks to replace sensitive identity information in facial images with synthesized alternatives, preserving privacy without sacrificing image clarity. Traditional methods, such as encoder-decoder networks, often result in significant loss of facial details due to their limited learning capacity. Additionally, relying on latent manipulation in pre-trained GANs can lead to changes in ID-irrelevant attributes, adversely affecting data utility due to GAN inversion inaccuracies. This paper introduces G2Face, which leverages both generative and geometric priors to enhance identity manipulation, achieving high-quality reversible face anonymization without compromising data utility. We utilize a 3D face model to extract geometric information from the input face, integrating it with a pre-trained GAN-based decoder. This synergy of generative and geometric priors allows the decoder to produce realistic anonymized faces with consistent geometry. Moreover, multi-scale facial features are extracted from the original face and combined with the decoder using our novel identity-aware feature fusion blocks (IFF). This integration enables precise blending of the generated facial patterns with the original ID-irrelevant features, resulting in accurate identity manipulation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art techniques in face anonymization and recovery, while preserving high data utility. Multi-modality image fusion (MMIF) entails synthesizing images with detailed textures and prominent objects. Existing methods tend to use general feature extraction to handle different fusion tasks. However, these methods have difficulty breaking fusion barriers across various modalities owing to the lack of targeted learning routes. In this work, we propose a multi-scenario feature joint learning architecture, MLFuse, that employs the commonalities of multi-modality images to deconstruct the fusion progress. Specifically, we construct a cross-modal knowledge reinforcing network that adopts a multipath calibration strategy to promote information communication between different images. In addition, two professional networks are developed to maintain the salient and textural information of fusion results. The spatial-spectral domain optimizing network can learn the vital relationship of the source image context with the help of spatial attention and spectral attention. The edge-guided learning network utilizes the convolution operations of various receptive fields to capture image texture information. The desired fusion results are obtained by aggregating the outputs from the three networks. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of MLFuse for infrared-visible image fusion and medical image fusion. The excellent results of downstream tasks (i.e., object detection and semantic segmentation) further verify the high-quality fusion performance of our method. The classical algorithms for online learning and decision-making have the benefit of achieving the optimal performance guarantees, but suffer from computational complexity limitations when implemented at scale. More recent sophisticated techniques, which we refer to as oracle-efficient methods, address this problem by dispatching to an offline optimization oracle that can search through an exponentially-large (or even infinite) space of decisions and select that which performed the best on any dataset. But despite the benefits of computational feasibility, oracle-efficient algorithms exhibit one major limitation: while performing well in worst-case settings, they do not adapt well to friendly environments. In this paper we consider two such friendly scenarios, (a) "small-loss" problems and (b) IID data. We provide a new framework for designing follow-the-perturbed-leader algorithms that are oracle-efficient and adapt well to the small-loss environment, under a particular condition which we call approximability (which is spiritually related to sufficient conditions provided in (Dudik et al, 2020)). We identify a series of real-world settings, including online auctions and transductive online classification, for which approximability holds. We also extend the algorithm to an IID data setting and establish a "best-of-both-worlds" bound in the oracle-efficient setting.
